And now we have dressed-up watered -down retread ideologies like "neo-con" and "neo-liberal", for variations of corporate technocratic globalism. The 19th century set the stage and the 20th century was supposed to be the Age of the Proletariat ascendant as a true self-conscious "class for itself". That was the vision; the dream. Instead, the most advanced and highly educated proletarians put on boots and uniforms, and marched out to the trenches of WW I to kill each other. The dream really died at Zimmerwald. Since WW II, it has become increasingly clear that "class" analysis ("division of labor", "alienation of labor") is superseded by technocracy. Robots and automation have already rendered the classical Marxist model obsolete. Let's move on to "Society of the Spectacle" and "Simulation vs. Simulacrum". The bulk of humanity will be managed like livestock. That would be the ones not replaced by automated systems. Slavery has to be run efficiently. All forms of real, existing "socialism" were never anything more than STATE CAPITALISM. With a party elite (see Milovan Djilas on "The New Class") or "managerial class" to run things ("dictatorship of the proletariat"). And it always went rotten and corrupt ("revisionist").
