I'm very well educated. I have a BA degree and a Masters in Social Work. I've read extensively not only on Chile but in Argentina and elsewhere. I know this. Nothing in life is simple. No one is all good or all bad. There is no such thing as good guys and bad guys. Everything is relative to a degree. That does not mean someone like Hitler or Stalin or perhaps Pinochet aren't evil ....they are. Nothing is simplistic though. All human situations are complicated and multi faceted.
@Goofy_Toons5 жыл бұрын
I'm also very well educated and have 2 Masters in World History. It was easy too because all I had to do was type that out and I guess it came true lol. I believe with hindsight Chile was doing well until the U. S decided to destablize the country.

You people are so obsessed with political sides and terms but you fail to see what matters most: the lives of the people in the country. When did they have better quality of life, with Allende or with Pinochet? The answer is obvious.
@samlowry43589 жыл бұрын
+VCthaGOATdunker I can point out the same in the USA. When was life really good in the USA, so much so it has the nick name "The Happy Days" Eisenhower to Nixon Era. When was life harder with many ever more poor people ruled by a class of super rich? Ever since Nixon resigned.

they are not. Pinochet had to do a 180 and return the allende policies at which point the country did start to improve.

@olveras2000 When I was in college I worked waiting tables one summer with a guy from Chile {who I liked very much.} He told me his parents were professional people in Chile. I think his father was an optometrist and his mother a clinical social worker. He told me that it is popular and politically correct to think that Pinochet was a pig but that for his family { a successful Chilean family} that it would have been chaos...a nightmare without Pinochet. He blessed Pinochet. Depends I guess??????

A good point, if that is the point that this video is intending to make. Regardless of the unspoken thoughts of the film makers/how the left wingers would inevitably interpret it, Imho they were merely pointing out the eerie fact that the same crooked gov't which later supported Pinochet and the coup, had beforehand set up the Chile Project to ensure US friendly thinking amongst Chilean intellectuals. THAT is the portrait of dishonesty and greed in the western world, not the CSE itself.
@kentucy999913 жыл бұрын
Milton Friedman visited Chile and met with Pinochet or the Pinochet administration? So what? Even if he was an "economic advisor" which I doubt very much, so what? {I'll be totally forthcoming. I'm a Democrat. Domestic liberal and foreign policy conservative.} This idea that the CIA "did this" and "did that" is ludicrous. Sure the CIA did alot of things. Some good. Some not so good. So what? America isn't perfect. So what? We meddle. So what? It's a dangerous world out there.

US backed genocide...so what?
@kentucy999913 жыл бұрын
@olveras2000 One more thing. My point in my initial post is that people extrapolate all of these different scenario's because of one event. Milton Friedman went to Chile so then you can extrapolate A-B-C when in fact you can't extrapolate A-B-C. People blame the CIA for everything. The CIA isn't THAT big and it isn't THAT good to be responsible for the myriad of things it is supposed to have concocted. Generally I DON'T believe in conspiracy theories. I think it is simply lazy for the most part.

+Patrick McCarron Allende wasn't what I would consider a full blown communist, a socialist yes but not a communist, the US had no right to help some power crazed general over throw him. he was democratically elected and clearly what the people wanted at the time. further more if you think we should be overthrowing all communist countys why not go after china huh? there the biggest communists of them all and yet we still do business with them every single day. hmmm I guess the US only picks and chooses weaker targets of interests when it suits them, but leaves the big fish alone or even cooperates with them when it suits them.

hooha tothefla, the KGB had no right either to try and force Chile to become another communist vassal of the Soviet Union like Cuba.
