Another wonderful video! I was kind of worried that your accident on the beach may ruin the rest of the trip, but it's a relief to see how quickly you recovered! Steve did the right thing to pray for you and it's really good to see fellow believers making high quality travel videos like these! How long do you reckon is needed for the Garden Route? We'd only be in SA for 23 days, spending the 1st week in Somerset West. We're wondering if we should allow 2 weeks for the garden route or do 1 week East and another week west, to places like Shelly Point and Lampert's Bay.

Very good footage of the caves! I was there when I was only 6 years old and we're planning to visit it again this year. Seems you've visited a lot of places in SA! I grew up there, but have been living overseas for more than a quarter century already. We're really looking forward to our visit to the Western Cape to finish 2024 and start 2025, but at the same time I'm wondering about the safety of driving long distances. Have you had any issues while on the road?
@AltLiving2 күн бұрын
This was one of the places in SA we loved the most. Just like you, Steve is also a South African living abroad, which made the experience a lot special to us! 😊 We didn’t have any problems driving. Some of our road trips were about 5hrs long and the roads were excellent! The people were also friendly and helpful everywhere we went. How exciting! We hope you enjoy your trip!

look where the hudson bay is on the map, the land around it was originally called rupert's land by the british and then the hudson's bay company was created. the fraser river begins in the rocky mountains, it's the largest river in british columbia. the fraser river is really cool up around a place called gang ranch/dog creek, the roads are gravel but generally in good condition. in 2021 we had a heat dome that broke all sorts of records, lytton reached a record canadian high of 49.6C (121F) then the village burned down. ashcroft is the only true desert in canada (by precipitation), it's where the movie "An Unfinished Life" was filmed.

ah yes, the joys of the ferry. i've lived on the island all my life and i rarely leave in the summer as the ferries are too busy but the best thing to do is get an early ferry and arrive early.

at the very north end of vancouver island there's cape scott park, it has sand beaches like tofino with very few people as the only way in is a 20 km. hike. the hike is relatively flat but very muddy and best done at the end of august/sept. when things have dried out. the upside is there are beaches all to yourself.
@AltLiving6 күн бұрын
We will keep that in mind next time we visit it there 😃 Thank you for telling us!
@blackberrythorns7 күн бұрын
tofino receives more than 3 metres of rain a year, a little further south henderson lake (Hucuktlis Lake) is the wettest place in north america with a record of over 9 metres. it's temperate rainforest, it's a worry when it doesn't rain for extended periods of time which has been happening more frequently in summers. last year there was even a forest fire near henderson lake which is disturbing.

Wow! That’s so cool! Thank you for the info! I didn’t know any of that.

It's not called the "Muddy Fraser river"....It's called the " Mighty fraser river", which will become apparent when you see hell's gate area and a ways north in spring ! The power of the water and the amount of flow is awesome ! Copper Creek is the name of the town....not the lake. The lake is VERY large and you are looking at the west end of Shuswap lake....it goes for about 50 miles where it meeys up with the northern arm of Lake Okanagan which travels about 50 miles south ! All the green farm patches are because of large irrigation pumps....sun and water = crops !
@AltLiving6 күн бұрын
Thank you for the info! Will fix it up top so others can see it too. No doubt Fraser River goes by the name “Mighty Fraser River” and we can see why. We told about the “Muddy Fraser River” by our Canadian friend who happened to live in that area for many years.
@kathysmith64138 күн бұрын
having lived in all those areas at various times, there is no possible way i would do that drive in 1 day even from Chillliwack it would be a silly idea. the Coquihalla is not a happy highway. I would guess this would be quite the culture shock especially if you were educated in the US.
@AltLivingКүн бұрын
We are used to very long drives so for us, apart from not making it in time for the RV park, it was quite fun. The down side of it to us was that we weren't able to see much of those places but just travelling through and barely stopping. We've made the decision to spend as much time as possible in those areas and take a more paced trip the next time we go there.
