Would you say Marc’s courses prepared you for these cgma’s or do you think it’s interchangeable as a beginner?
@jasminerose78672 ай бұрын
@@00emoboy00 it definitely did help me understand fundamentals a lot more as I would’ve felt overwhelmed with CGMA due to the deadlines. But CGMA also has beginner drawing courses it just depends on how long it takes you to draw and complete assignments. So I had more time with Marc’s course
@scarletsletter44664 ай бұрын
I enjoyed Marc’s course & recommend it but you’re at the intermediate phase where the main component that’ll help you improve is mileage (drawing from life & photo ref) so you understand form & structure. The next biggest jump in your skill will come from being able to “see in 3D.” This is why some classical training methods have students draw cubes & statues. If paying for courses motivates you then ofc that’s worth it. But my advice (for achieving it free) is to draw from life or photo reference for at least an hour per day. Draw everything- still lifes like an apple or flower on your desk, animals such as your pet, & people whether in a cafe or self portraiture in a mirror. Even doing studies from illustrators you enjoy will help (just don’t post online or at least credit them). I also recommend bridgeman & loomis for figure drawing (they’re online for free at the archive site but you can also buy). They teach students to “put the figure in a box” which really helps some. Until an artist can conceptualize the world (& hence its representation on your canvas) as being comprised of cubes, it is difficult to illustrate convincingly, not just for perspective but also light & shadow. I see artists jumping into lighting & color but without a full understanding of form, they’re just copying the values of the reference without understanding it. This isn’t a critique of you specifically, it’s a phase that ALL artists go through except the tiny % who seem to be born with the ability to “see in 3D” on a canvas. We’ve all seen those kids who somehow render form while others their age draw stick figures. It’s very rare & not necessarily an indication that they’ll be the best artist in the long run, it’s just a head start

And they can't focus very well and they didn't like how he kept talking and talking and didn't get to the point. I also have ADHD so I don't like lessons that are really long like 3 hours that have a lot of talking in them as well. And I think he has ADHD as well. So it's weird that why he wouldn't get to the point if he has a hard time focusing as well.

Do you think 1 year would be sufficient for me to develop a skillset by using this course? Should I follow the 2 year plant (in weeks which marc provides) or do entire course in a single year? Thanks for reading my question. Please reply back

I saw that comment about the teaching style not mattering and basically saying that you really don’t want the knowledge if you can’t learn with any teacher. That person will probably end up being that boring teacher students complain about. I completely agree with you, I am 39 and returning to Art as a passion. I’m a full time engineer so I have no intentions to work as an artist and I have limited time to invest but when I do sit down to learn I NEED to be engaged…… especially if I’m paying some of the high prices of these art classes. Any way thanks for your reviews I plan to take classes at cgma after finishing Matt’s program so both of your videos were very helpful.

@jasminerose7867 Жыл бұрын
It depends what your goal is. If it’s just to be better at art then one course is fine however I want a job in the gaming industry so every time I improve I need to get feedback and challenge myself further. CGMA has tight weekly deadlines that you need to complete or you won’t get a certificate whereas at the time I could only afford Marc’s course without feedback so there’s no deadlines and you can take your time but for me I need deadlines nowadays.

When you go to drawing lessons, you should know that you are not in the first place, but the drawing. Therefore, do not pay attention to the teacher how funny or boring he is. It is important that he be good, polite and give knowledge. This is the most important thing in order to develop your draw skill.
@userbunny Жыл бұрын
For me with ADHD especially in a program where you have to teach yourself it's really important how the teacher speaks, if he is boring or funny. Is kind of important otherwise I won't sit down and study. Of course the other things are super important, but if I don't like the teacher no matter how good he is, I won't learn anything.
@stanimirgeorgiev.87 Жыл бұрын
@@userbunny Is kind of important otherwise I won't sit down and study but if I don't like the teacher no matter how good he is, I won't learn anything. ______________ I understand you. But I don't agree. I can't tell you how to think. But to me, that's the wrong way of thinking. If you won't sit down to study, for whatever reason, especially because of the teacher, fun or boring, then you don't want to draw, you're just really looking for an emotional connection with your teacher. But this is not a dedication to drawing. It's an emotional connection with another human ( in this case with your teacher ); but you must not make mistake both are the same, because they are not, they really not. And then your emotional commitment will be your motivation to draw, not the drawing itself, which means that at some point in your life you will abandon painting / drawing for some reason ( it is not 100% sure, but it is very possible). I don't give a penny to the teacher how he speaks, but how much knowledge he gives me, and how much he is motivated (dedicated to drawing) that is to say; that teacher has adequate behavior; respect and be friendly. For him to be motivated in his work means that he will have fun while he teaches which will immediately connect with me, who loves to draw. There are people who are devoted to their profession, then they are for me. We are instantly attracted. So that I seek knowledge, he gives knowledge. But how funny or boring it is is none of my business. I have had many bad teachers, boring, they don't want to teach, but they were good artists. Then I pursued them for knowledge. I assigned my own homework because they didn't give homework, and I went to them for criticism and advice. This is what I call internal motivation inspired by the drawing itself, not by external factors. But that's just me.

@@stanimirgeorgiev.87 I don't know if you have ADHD?! But for me EVERYTHING feels like a chore no matter if I want to do it or not. When I have a "hype" towards a topic then I can literally do it for hours. But I don't get to the point everyday. So I can't waste my life waiting until I a special interest hit me. So it has nothing to do with, "I don't want to draw". It makes it a lot harder for me to learn if my interest is not focused on drawing, which still does not mean that I don't want to draw. Even if a special interest hit me it could be something else every time. So I would learn a little bit of everything in my life but nothing really. And I don't want to live like that, so I have to "force" myself to draw for example. Also for example. Proko tutorials are great but I literally fall asleep after a few minutes. So it is really IMPORTANT for me how the teacher speaks and acts.

the basic fundations and fundamentals of drawing and colour theory are the same no matter the materials or media being used so it can be used in pen & paper drawings no problem. However, like most digital art courses, it will eventually go into hardware and/or software classes, which will not attend your needs. There are free art softwares that run on all specs of computers if you are interested (like Krita, Inkscape or GIMP), but you will still need a (digital drawing) tablet and pen.
