It was very useful watching this video. I have a similar container, which allows you to customise the internal storage sections. It lives in the lid of my radio mic accessories bag. I also have a smaller accessories case from Viviana that I keep closer to me in my sound bag. I seem to carry a lot of the mic-ing solutions that you have, but in terms of quality I really favour the Viviana products over URSA. For example their pads, dots with hole, fur for lavs, moleskin extreme, the beetle for 6060 & the rf savers. Talent also prefer their straps. It would be interesting see how you rock up to work generally, as I’ve recently assembled a Zuca cart, which has been a game changer.

Thanks so much! Yes I actually have started to integrate more Viviana stuff into my workflow… I am now using their puffy pouches quite a bit, as well as the extreme tape (awesome awesome product). I think Viviana has helped to innovate quite a bit in the expendables world -I attended a workshop a few weeks ago with Simon from URSA and they have a few new products coming out next year that are pretty cool. We are blessed to have so many options these days. I have a minicart setup that’s evolved quite a bit over the last two years. I’m going to integrate Systainer drawer system on the cart and then will likely make a new video about the organization. I am a big fan of the zuca carts, one of my good friends here has one of the og cannibal industries super zucas and it’s amazing! Thanks for the comment I appreciate it, love connecting with other sound pros on the channel. Cheers

Thanks for this video - I’ve been professionally recording for broadcast about 25yrs now and still found this useful!!….. they’ve haven’t found me out yet!! I’ve been using either straight whips from my SL2 (with MCR54s) OR the SNA600a dipoles that are tuned to around 600mhz (I’m uk based) Is there a need for additional RF filtering in line between the dipoles and SL2? I also obvs have the internally SD888 filtering set correctly too… Would I benefit from these in line filters do you think? Or would it merely introduce more gain loss? Thanks in advance!
@nicolasfieldsoundservices26 күн бұрын
Hey hey! Thanks for the kind words I’m glad you found it useful. Congrats on 25 years in the biz. Since both of the antennas you typically use have built in attenuation, plus the SL2 active filtering -I think you’re proooobably good? If you find yourself constantly battling walkies on set you might wanna think about adding narrowband filters. I’m not much of an RF guru myself but I’d say if it isn’t broken don’t fix it! If you felt the need to add active antennas into the system then I’d suggest a filtering antenna like LFA.

I've been debating whether I should always sync my Tentacle timecode boxes from my MixPre 10 ii or use the app and sync the timecode boxes, and then use one of them to feed timecode continuously back into the recorder. I have 3 cameras and 3 timecode boxes, but rarely am I using all 3 cameras at once. You made me think about not having to collect all the timecode boxes off the cameras to resync if a problem happened in the middle of the day. Up until now, the workflow has been to use the MixPre as the master clock and sync the timecode boxes at the start of the day. The recorder is powered off my power distribution box on an un-switched port so the recorder can run all day and keep timecode running (bridge sled batteries for Hi-Q battery changes if needed) and power cycle off everything else in the bag when not needed to save battery.
@nicolasfieldsoundservicesАй бұрын
I have heard a few stories about the Mixpre internal TC generator being a bit of a weak point in the design of the recorder. Many mixers I know are using an external timecode generator with the mixpre series for this reason. ymmv but I think it could be a good idea!

I am wondering - what is ‘intermod’?
@charlesisrecordingАй бұрын
@@LisaFly9 is a phenomenon that occurs when two or more signals pass through a nonlinear system, such as a radio frequency amplifier, and create additional signals at the sum and difference frequencies of the original signals. In simpler words, when 2 or more signals collide they can create more noise and causing interference with the selected signals and can overload your receiver, that's why it is so important to always do a scan on every location and TX Advance helps with the most difficult part, knowing where to put your transmitters without causing intermod. There's also FreqFinder (available for Android and iOS) that helps with the calculation of intermod, it doesn't scan, but it sure helps if you have a better grasp of what you're doing.

I am going to mod a trio of Sennheiser EW512 G4 receivers to have SMA connectors instead of the supplied permanent whip antennae. It will give me the option of just applying a whip antennae to the receivers in my bag, but also I can now implement an RF distribution system and butterfly antenna system. I am currently looking at the Deity SRD mini RF distro box and their BF-1 antennas. The SRD mini can be powered off my power distribution box so I still have the one swappable battery for the entire bag, but get the added signal of the butterfly antennae or any other passive antenna. I like the idea of being able to go back and forth based on the situation with little to no work.
@nicolasfieldsoundservicesАй бұрын
Sweet, seems like a solid plan. If I were in your shoes, I would look at the Betso Bowties. The reason for this is that the Deity Butterfly is 470 MHz-1 GHz and their distro similarly offers no filtering. If you want to give the front end filtering on your G4s a break, utilizing an antenna that attenuates more out of band frequencies will help secure your reception.
@The-LogicianАй бұрын
@@nicolasfieldsoundservices Thanks for that tidbit of advice. I did end up going with a pair of the Betso Bowties along with the SRD mini based on your recommendation. That made perfect sense to me. And the Bowties were a bit cheaper on price than the BF-1. They look really nice mounted on my sound bag. While I currently do not have diversity receivers, at least I am set up for the future that I can utilize diversity receivers when I can save up for more professional receivers. I have already modified the G4's. It was extremely easy to do (less than 10 minutes per TX/RX pair) and I have already seen a marked improvement in the reception of the G4's with proper sized SMA antennas. I am short my order on SMA jumper cables at the moment, so I still cannot test how much improvement the Betso's can/will provide yet but the cables are on their way. Slow boat from China.....

My worry with buying the MCR-54 4 channel receiver is that if it fails, I don’t have any backup receivers (since I’m new) and I’ll be screwed. I’m guessing you usually have backup receivers with you just in case the MCR-54 stops working and you need a backup- Do you think my worry is justified? Do you think it’s better to go with 2 dual-receivers instead? I’d prefer lower bag weight/less cables so the MCR-54 looks very nice haha. Also I’ve found that it is cheaper than buying 2 of many dual channel receivers (like the Dual MCR-54 and Lectro SRCs)
@nicolasfieldsoundservices4 ай бұрын
@@coldbumby I have never heard of one failing, even in extreme conditions. But things do happen so it’s good to be prepared. I keep some G4s with me in case the receiver fails, but I don’t really worry about it. So far so good after 2 years. The way I see it, with recording TX you technically won’t miss anything even if every other part of your recording system goes down. That being said if you’re anything like me you’ll eventually want another receiver because…channels! Haha. I think the wisycom gear offers pretty great value when compared to its competitors, for sure. But it’s still a big investment for a freelancer.
