This whole demonstration kind of shows how the real paint and brushes is still superior to digital.

What a hugely tallented man. And woman. (And doggo.😊) Not used Photoshop outside a few bits for work, but I pretty sure there are some far better programs for 'real painting' out there now. Even so, the end result was stunning. I especially like how she didn't simply directly copy Bob this time; just the techniques.

The imperfections of working on canvas with brushes and knives actually plays to the benefit of Bob's style of painting and I could see where some of it was difficult to recreate in the more exact medium of digital - especially when trying to recreate the roof shingles. Very interesting.

A bit disappointing that you didn't actually follow Bob Ross. You just copied.

Not even with modern tech can a person paint at the speed of a Bob Ross. While technically close the original looks much more three dimensional while the computer version looks like a 2D cell.

Great demonstration about how fast Bob Ross was. A pro digital artist needs to pause the video to try to follow it because doing similar textures that Bob Ross was able to make with one or two brush movements are still impossible to follow with even a high quality digitizer pen.

Krita might be better software than Photoshop for this kind of painting.

Surely there has to be brush settings and layer qualities that can be set up to better simulate painting on a wet white-washed canvas?

The problem with digital art is it's so precise, everything comes out looking like a cartoon or anime. Don't get me wrong, there has been some great digital artworks, it's just a different medium, like pastels are different.

Hi, Do Frenchies allow you to trim their claws? I had a dog that had to be anesthetized to get his claws clipped. Found out later that his breed is known for that.

Several of his paintings showed up on a recent Antiques Roadshow from Alaska (where he got his start). They were appraised for around $15,000 each, I think. I mean, it’s hotel room art, but who wouldn’t want a Bob Ross original?! 😂

Are traditional arts useful for visual development in animations? Hello! You don't know me and you probably won't even see this message. But I'm a Visual Arts student who started to be interested in Visual Development and would like to have a chance to work in this area. The problem is that I only work with traditional arts... With collections, crayons and paints, you know? Do you think there is still room for this in the animation development market? I started this message with a question just to get your attention and I hope to achieve that. If you see this message, I am very grateful for your help 🥺❤️

Not as easy as it looks. Even at the beginning, of the painting, there isn't the blending, with the computer, you get with a brush.

Kind of feels sacrilegious to do a Bob Ross painting digitally. Part of the aesthetic is the brush, the paint, the whole physical nature of it all. Bob was ASMR before there was ASMR. That aside, I absolutely love “beating the devil” out of the monitor. Very nice reproduction in the end, just a different medium.

Hey Laura!! I adore your videos and have watched them for years. I just got accepted into an animation school in Canada (I live in the uk) and I’m wondering what are your thoughts on pursuing animation at this time? I keep hearing that it’s gone downhill in terms of finding work/ short contracts and more risky than ever. Is it really this bad atm? Is it better to peruse a more stable career in psychology over here in the uk with art on the side, or should I pursue my dream? Just want to get a professional pov. Now I’ll go rewatch/study your speedpaints haha

Yuck. It looks like something out of a catalog, not something lived in. Cost Plus on steroids. You're like our next-door neighbor who has turned his version of our early 80's redwood modern into generic suburban blah. It's going to look super old-fashioned about five years from now. Funny, I remember a cool designer in LA in the 90's who had a French Bulldog and barely anyone had ever heard of the breed--now they're 10 a penny. But your poor dogs, no actual dirt to dig in or snuffle around in--they don't know they're designer animals.

The word ARTIST and DISNEY have no connection at all ever since the 1990s. More like DISNEY and METH ADDICTS. But I am glad to hear you are actually trying to draw for real. But then again you are using a computer to render what Bob is doing, which is cheating. Go back to the Disney meth lab.
