I am very new to CNC and have struggled to get started. I find Carbide generally a bit unfriendly; especially now that version 7 of the free version no longer gives you the Gcode, whilst the "out of the box" support and in-software prompts are hardly user-friendly. As a result I found this video really helpful and very easy to follow. I read down some of the comments and found them both inaccurate and unkind. Thank you again.

Hi, thanks for replying and no problem; I really found it useful. As to other topics to cover, one that has already surfaced for me would be what I believe is called "resting". By that I mean switching out one bit for another on a single project so enabling the use of a smaller bit to achieve finer detail. I would certainly find that just as useful as this video. Regards Derrick

I don't think these free versions software are giving you gcode at all so you don't even know how things will work. Maybe that did while back but now now. They became popular and restricted the usage down to not usable.

I could be wrong, but I think some of you folks fail to understand active noise cancellation by using an out of phase wave. If the original noise wave is producing a positive +100 db painful pressure wave at your ear drum, and the generated out of phase wave produces a -100 db aka perfectly out of phase pressure wave, the net damaging pressure o. your ear drum will be 0 db! That is assuming all things working perfectly, which is unlikely of course. Still, the net effect if everything is working ok is a greatly reduced pressure wave on the ear drum, Which means much less pain and ringing of the ears. If some sort of damaging sound pressure wace had been getting thru to @cyberreefguru 's ears, his ears would have pain and/or ringing/tinnitus would have been perceived. I used to repair subwoofers. If playing them LOUD, the very loud low frequency sound(from ONE subwoofer) would have drowned out any rattles or squeaks or minor noises, and would also be rattling the walls as well as deafening me in a painful fashion. Or, playing 2 subwoofers side by side IN PHASE would worsen the painful loudness very significantly. However, all I had to do- with both subwoofers tightly side by side- was reverse the electrical connection on ONE subwoofer- and there would be sudden silence. No walls rattling, no ear pain. I could crank them up with enough wattage to cause each to have very large cone excursions, but while 1 cone was moving forward, the other cone was moving backwards cancelling every thing it was doing. It would be almost silent. Without that cancellation caused by an out of phase wave, I probably would have had ear pain, ear damage and tinnitus. As it was, I felt nothing. Without these negative results, there is no ear damage, all accomplished by noise cancellation via the addition of an out of phase wave. Now, these air pods won't be that perfect, due to imperfect ear seal( letting noise in around the pod's ear pads). Also, this might not work as well with higher frequencies as with lower frequencies. Also how quickly can these pods generate the noise cancelling out of phase wave? However many Milli-seconds might pass before the wave can be generated, that is how long damaging sound can get thru to the ear drum. But in theory, if all things are working perfectly, a noise cancelling system could provide perfect ear protection. Just like adding a 2nd sub-woofer wired out of phase provided me with as much ear protection as near total silence did. And better than a good set of over ear muffs did.

Newbie here. I have a machine that is about 10 years old. The question on setup is puzzling. I have no idea what processor(?) it uses. I';m pretty sure it is not a Shapeoko blah blah blah. How can I find this out?
@cyberreefguru
@cyberreefguru 22 күн бұрын
Hello -- you shouldn't need to know what processor it has, but you do need to know what type of software the controller uses. Does the machine connect to your computer via a USB cable? If so, given its age, it's probably good old grbl. If not, then it's some sort of stand alone controller, for which I have no clue what that may be. Recommend taking a picture of the machine and running it through google image reverse lookup to see if google will identify the machine. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

The dust collection of this and the Laguna’s are poorly designed. They put them on the back so that the hoses wouldn’t stick out the side. But the efficiency of trying to suck dust out with the port behind the wheel, where the wheel blocks the direct vacuum, is a bad idea. On this Rikon the port is way back. It should be near the side, under where the blade is on the wheel. That would help. But putting the port(s) on the side, facing the edge of the blade would be much more efficient. The Leguna requires a dust collection system much more powerful than it should need and imagine, due to the design, that it’s the same thing for this one as well.

Well, those are the posted prices. Days later the slabs were sold -- so by that metric, they are "market value" -- someone purchased them. Are they reasonable market value? @cyberreefguru they aren't market value. Just because they sold doesn't mean that's what the typical price is. $5-$10/ bd ft for hardwood. Unique pieces from size or exotic species and up that unlimited. But for a basic live edge maple slab, $5-$10/ bd ft

The wheel in front is a tripping hazard, so I swapped it to the back. This works fine in my situation (I mostly move it straight forwards and back), but it means I have to lift the cabinet door up on its hinge to get it over the wheel in front. About 3mm of either shorter cabinet door or longer cabinet base would have resolved this. Rikon, are you listening? While I'm busy redesigning things, it would be much easier to use studs and nuts, rather than bolts, for the trunnion. The table's weight is off-center enough that it's a pain to get that first bolt in during assembly.

@@cyberreefguru Yeah, they did remove gcode exporting for the free version but if you have pro they give you a choice to export the code. However, I can do much of what vectric does and a little more. I think only Aspire can import multiple 3d objects. I can do that now with CCpro and it is much cheaper. what is a good cnc machine that you would recommend to a new user
@cyberreefguru
@cyberreefguru Ай бұрын
Hello William -- unfortunately the answer is "it depends". It depends on how much you have to spend (including all the hidden costs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fovQp5p_edqCf7csi=kLdP3uQ4f_setJOk), what you want to cut, and how big the items you want to make. At this point there are few options under $1K that I would recommend if you are serious about the hobby. Between 1K and 2K, the original XCarve, Shapeoko 4, or Long Mill are probably the best options. $2K-$3K, the "original" Onefinity or Shapeoko Pro. $3K-$5K, Onefinity Elite primarily because of the closed loop steppers. Above $5K, well, I would not recommend spending that much for your first machine ;). Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I suggest never use anything cloud based - description ends, your project files are useless. You need the software on your computer. Never use limited softwares like Easel that you grow it out in 2 weeks as you develop you need more function but it just doesnt have more. So you need a full fledged software on your computer. Vectric, Carveco, Fusion are the softwares everyone uses.
@cyberreefguru

Hi there. 100% disagree for beginners. Start with something simple that is not overwhelming and get immediate joy out of your hobby before you ramp up to more complicated software. Second point - why invest 100's if not 1000's of dollars in software you may not need in 6 months if you decide the hobby isn't for you? For someone serious, or looking to make a career out of it, or a professional, sure -- make the investment and suffer the learning curve. FWIW, Fusion is cloud based and Carveco is subscription based (unless you want to drop 8K for a perpetual license). Thanks for watching!
