Idk why but I'm obsessed with the MD. It's so cool. I love one off things especially when they relate to medical shit. I would use it as well, I frequently shoot my M3 with R lenses adapted and rarely shoot out of focus so I'm pretty good at judging distance. What a cool camera

I think that the Leica M2 and Leica MP (the old version, not the later !) are the best Leica M models ever made !

In your M3 talk, you do not mention double stroke wind vs. single stroke. That would seem significant.

I recently picked up an early M2 and have been obsessed with it. I bought my first Leica (Q) from Tamarkin in December 2015 and have been addicted ever since. Love these little deep dives into the cameras.

Hello, until today I was planning to buy a Leice IIIf or g (because I do own several Canon M39 lenses from 19 to 200mm) but today I deciced to look for a Leica M3, 2, 4, 4-P) Please tell me, where is your shop?

I wonder if the M3 can have the M4's pc sync flash port. the pc sync adapter for the m3 is very dodgy and usually misfires.

Is the M3 the only model that has the 50mm frame line as the largest size within the viewfinder?
@ShahzadBPhotography7 ай бұрын
Do you see a big difference in using the viewfinder as a spectacled person? I am debating between the M3 and M5 for my first Leica. I largely shoot portraits and am worried that the .72 might not work as well with a 90mm vs the .91 viewfinder in the M3.

With a 50 or 90mm I'd recommend the M3

Last weekend I was at the used bookstore and found a Leica Club guide (pre-internet) from 1977 that has a list of Leica cameras and related accessories for sale. A check was written and cashed, and the hardware goes out the door. I had noticed the Tamarkin even at that time had the best variety at that time. Nobody on the list came close to the number of offerings. In any case, you have come a long way since then. The only thing on the list that did not seem to go up in price was the Leicaflex camera. I own and swear by it, but we were talking thousands of dollars for the camera nearly half a century ago.

Which do you think would be a better choice for kickstarting a Leica journey, M3 or M4-P. I can't decide between the two.
@gilang6710 Жыл бұрын
M4-P since it has more framelines variations (28, 35, 50 and so on among the favorite lens/focal length). The M3 starts with 50 and up, so you don’t have option for lens wider than 50mm.
@fretlessfender Жыл бұрын
There is this difference between m3 and m2 that is never written about and never mentioned. Early m3's the double strokes with glass pressure plates have tiny ball bearings to shut the hinged back. It prevents it from rattling when the bottom plate is not on. All the newer M's don't have this feature... and that is a little sad because it has a quality feel to it! Check it out, it's true!

I really like the fact that the M5 is considered the ugly duckling. That makes it cheap. I paid less for mine, fleshly CLAed by a pro camera store in Germany and re-calibrated for 1.55 V LR44 batteries than any other M would have cost me including the somewhat cheaper M4-P; I bought it in August 2023 for less than 1000 EUR, when good M6 from a shop goes for 2400 EUR or more and an M4 will cost you at least 1400 EUR. OK, the price was a bit low because it shows signs of use, they usually go for 1200 to 1400 EUR, but I really never was interested in collector‘s cameras. And the funny thing: it is not only the cheapest, it is the nicest I ever used. I had M2, M3 and M6 and the slightly bigger size of the M5 fits my hands better. The bigger shutter dial that can be used with on finger, the speed indication in the meter, the really tight metering area, that is indicated in the viewfinder for any focal length - so many reasons why I do like the M5 considerably more than the M6. Yes, the other film M cameras do look better, I agree with that. But as a tool for photography, I‘d take my M5 over any M6 anytime. It is just a wonderful camera. I should shut up or the prices will go up.

Nice summation! I found ur video and got so excited that I dusted off my beloved M5 which was working fine until I stored it back in 2021. It would be nice if you could have a series on trouble shooting these units as there is very little information around there or to say it is difficult to get these repaired. I have tried the battery tester, found that special 1.35V battery and paid a premium but still the needle on the M5 is sleeping. Now I am thinking of alternatives for the light meter..

Hello, congratulations on your video telling a little about the history of Leica models. I have an M3, 1956, the shutter curtain sometimes locks. I send it every time to an authorized Leica technician, who is in another state, sometimes the shutter arrives normal, unlocked, other times it arrives there still locked. No one can know what the problem is and why the shutter freezes during movie operation. Could you tell what it could be? Grateful.
