John is on a casual ride , Kandi is riding his wheels off. You can just see the experience in johns riding hitting perfect apex's proving "smooth is fast". Sheeesh what an honor this would be just to meet him much less to be able to be on the same race track with him.

As a new rider, how much is skill (i'm guessing a lot) and how much is 'state of mind'? What I mean is maintaining a calm versus an intense mindset. Do riders on a track focus on how fast they are/could be going or focus on that smoothness with little relevance to actual speed/times?

Badge of honor getting your rear handed to you by that guy. Legend for sure. Wonder what it would've looked like if he had run full out.

Back 20 years ago I had Kevin Magee come by me at Eastern Creek approaching the U-turn corner, on a trail bike looking thing, Cool I thought I will stick with him. Well, he was well gone by the time I left the corner. Very humble nice guy Magoo. Off track a bit later, I was coming out of the toilet block and ran into him at the door and he actually said hello to me. I told him of my on track humiliation with him and he said yeah "I recognise the leathers, I sat behind you a little while actually and you're going alright, nice and smooth, you just need to be a bit braver on brakes, but have patience, dont push it too far beyond your comforts and you'll get there, but that's where you'll improve" What a great guy, made me feel a million dollars.

I did a track day at Phillip Island on a S1000RR just before the MotoGP, some of the lesser known racers wanted to learn the track so they had to go in the White slow group as they hadn’t been at Phillip Island before, man, they went so quick they made me look stupid lol. This was on their first lap!
@Bluepilled-c5t21 күн бұрын
what? That's crazy. White group is pretty slow, any racer of any level, not even comparable.
@gm16v14921 күн бұрын
@@Bluepilled-c5tEveryone has to go in the White group for a 20 minute session at a track day if they haven’t been to Phillip Island before. It was my first track day as well. There were a few motorcycle journos from Europe as well as racers getting to know the track. After the first session the times were checked and they soon got to the faster grades. But everyone has to start in the slow group on a track day if they haven’t been before.

I came across Steve Plater on the road, I'd been out on a loop around Lincolnshire and pretty much left everyone who I caught up with. I passed him thinking nothing of it until checking my mirrors and seeing he was still there. We passed each other on several bends until we came to what must be one of his favourite roads. He pulled a wheelie exiting this roundabout, waved and took off. Very humbling

At one of our trackdays ten years or so ago Guy Martin turned up. And borrowed someone's 90's dream bike AR80 for a session. (for old times sake, apparently he had one in the day). So many of us got to lap Guy Martin at Cadwell. Because no matter how good you are, an AR80 can barely get to 50mph.
@MOTOKANDI21 күн бұрын
