I like the idea. It would not compete with the R1 on performance, so I would hope they would lighten up on the super committed ergonomics a little with the idea of making it the ultimate STREET sport bike as opposed to trying to make it a TRACK sport bike. Having owned two R6s, a R1, and a R1M, and done plenty of street and track time on both platforms, they are just not the best street bikes due to the committed ergos and the super stiff suspension on the R1, though they are certainly brilliant motorcycles. The R6 power output is lacking a little too for street riding. The MT09, which I also have owned, has enough power, and the power output is well suited to street riding - big torque and "OK" on top. They just need to be sure to keep the foot pegs high enough so the bike can still be used for serious canyon use and track days.

R6 lacks power for the street? I have never understood this mentality. I mean the bike is an absolute weapon. Are we really counting on a couple of seconds of acceleration on whether it's "good enough" for the road. Just sounds so absurd in this context when this mentality rather belongs only on the track.

Since Triumph is providing three cylinder engines for ALL the Moto2 bikes (765cc 140PS race engines totally based on production 765 motors) ) It seems totally logical Yamaha would like their turn providing motors and the MT09 motor could be freaking IDEAL! Then IF that were to happen the market for an R9 bike would EXPLODE! Not that the R9 would be near as good as a full on moto 2 racebike BUT if it had the same base motor? And rather looked the part? Good enough for marketing!

They ABSOLUTELY should build it!!! However I thought we were getting rid of the super aggressive body position. No one wants supersports for the streets. Raise those bars a couple of inches and all will flock to this bike.

When you buy a car you get to adjust everything from the seat to the steering wheel. When you get a bike you can adjust the distance from levers to the bars and if you're really lucky, the footrest position. Motorcycle manufacturers need to get with the times, we are all different sizes so handlebars, footrests and seats need to be adjustable. Wouldn't that be great, eh?

Seems like Yamaha (or after market) could simply offer say a $3k kit with all the pieces needed to achieve the same thing....paint matched and fully bolt on including perhaps triple tree, maybe shock linkage fairing bitsand brackets...anything and everything to convert an MT 09 into an R9.why not? BTW I REALLY totally cant understand why no one has come out with R kits for twin cylinder KTM models ...KTM's CEO is afraid to put racy looking Sport bike fairings on ANYTHING larger than the little 390single...and NO ONE makes a kit??? Seriously? UGLY naked Dukes or nothing.....stuff it ktm!

Heresy: the 3-in-line crossplane overgrowth up to 1100 cm3 to make a new hypersport to replace the R1. Even better with something else than the M-shaped airbox that's taking over in the street legal but it's being discarded in MotoGP. Maybe replaced with those enormous "fennec ears" from the R1... 2009, I think, fast enough to win races and the title that same year with Ben Spies. ... Well, secondly guessing, the current R1 M is fighting for the title the day I'm commenting by the hands of Razgathioglu, so the current project it's more than valid(especially after 6 years of Ninja dominance). And surely Yamaha fans love to see a street legal M1 in various sizes, so they like the M-shaped airbox. Even if I liked the fact that R1 and the M-GP prototype had distinct styles that made each of them its own thing from one another, a thing that's now largely lost(as I said, the R1 is now a street legal M1 with two holes in the tail, while M-GP prototypes are progressively uniforming for racing efficiency reasons). And I still dream the coming of a 3 cylinder, pheraps a winning one, superbike, and I like a bit the Yamaha's...

4 cylinder literbikes have been crap ever since they became short wheelbase dragbikes 20 years ago. As far as there being too much hp difference between R1 and R7, wasn't that what the R6 was doing in the first place? They finally came off the dragbike hp high and are going back to making proper sportbikes, with properly spec'd hp numbers. The 1000 and 600 class designations were made 40 years ago when building 100hp with 1000cc was difficult/impossible. They just never saw to reduce engine size with increased efficiency. Hp was yet another retarded marketing race which appealed to lowbrow consumer idiots. Yamaha and Aprilia (rs660) are leading the charge to un-retard the sportbike industry. Should they build a 110hp R9? Yes, and simultaneously toss the 200hp crap R1 into the shitter.

There's a place for all the dick-waving 200bhp superbikes, but the 99% of the actual sheer joy of riding a motorcycle can be enjoyed with far, far less. An R9 would make around 120bhp and every bit of it would be useable on the road or track. It has the potential to be Yamaha's greatest sportsbike in a decade

Yamaha would be foolish not to do like they did with the R7 and make an R9 based on MT-09! The biggest complaint with the R7 is its performance. An R9 would fit perfectly just below the r1 which could stay true to its Super sport roots. Without an R9 there is way too big of a gap in the lineup between an R7 and an R1.

Yamaha's progress has been extensive over the last couple of years where they literally put off the shelves namely the Majesty scoot 125,the R6 and the R15 version 2.And within a short span,India wants an R15 version 4.It used to be Suzuki but now it's Yamaha that's in the lead of new production bikes.
