I never came out of my creative depression. The only thing that reminds me of having any drawing skill is mindless doodles that I do with no thought

End of January marks 3 years of me learning how to draw, I have a goal to get prominent in the niche I picked up. I enjoy drawing, but learning had been very painful for me. There's a lot of documentation about art, but documentation is often bad. First year I was just fumbling in the dark. Took me a good while to figure out how to learn. Had spent hundreds of hours drawing, I still suck. Recently had to delete the content on Pixiv in order to get my account unsuspended, that hit me hard, almost 3 years of trying to grow my account went to the trash. Also Patreon hit me. Definitely the road to get to the place I want to be is hard. I personally dont recommend drawing daily, you burn out, sometimes a break is part of the journey. Also, I hate how most artists cant give a straight answer when someone asks "how many years would take me to get good".

There’s a really interesting vr comic done in the app quill called the remedy by Daniel Peixe that really pushes the idea of what comics can be that I think everyone should check out. I know VR isn’t for everyone but even as a concept it’s just good storytelling and pushing boundaries.

Really cool process I actually do a process that similar to how Dave Givens do his progress by using a grid method when he was doing the watchmen with Alan Moore and he will cross some of the boxes one line that finishes the pencils and then the other line for inks. I think cartoon’s Café has a much better explanation of that on their review of watching the watchmen and also their Dave Gibbons interview as well. :)

Great video and thanks for the real walk-through, that helps a lot getting the theory right. One question tho, using this method is only effective if you have a specific account about a specific "art business" of yours, like your comic in this video, right ? Let say you have your comic but you also draw illustration , you also are a color artist (for other artists pages), and you also are into linocut printmaking for example, do you think it will be better to have a personal brand account with all of that in it or a specific account for each field of yours and do this strategy on every one of them ?

Hey, man, first off, I like your videos. I almost always learn something helpful. A few months ago, I was having a conversation with a friend, and I was saying how I thought Facebook was evil. She came back with something that sounded a whole lot like this. I didn't want to hear it. I'm pretty entrenched with the Facebook being evil idea, but maybe it is a necessary evil that I need to embrace. I do weekly, mostly single panel cartoons (occasionally, they are multi-panel) on classic movies. I think I'm reaching my people, but only a very small portion of my people. I will give this a shot. Maybe, just start with one platform, and try to build from there.
@DJCoffmanАй бұрын
I totally understand what you mean, I’m not a BIG personal fan of social media in general- I wouldn’t call it “evil”, it’s basically just a mirror of who we are as humans. The algorithms are all interest based now, meaning if you choose to go looking for the BAD or train wrecks, you will find more of that. If you use it and approach it meaningfully, you actually will curate a better space. Mine is full of so much positive mindset, art and GOOD news now. But you have to be vigilant about your feelings, should you see something you dont like or makes you feel shitty, don’t engage with it, send a different signal by unfollowing or the little 3 dots menu, “I don’t want to see content like this” options. It actually cleans itself up pretty fast!

Here's my thing.I live in PA in the hills. Absolutely breath-taking pictures, a friend of mine took a picture of a snow scene over the top beautiful.He asked me to paint it which I did on a 12 x 24 level 2 canvas. It's sold. We feel cause everyone wants prints. How to make of something this big? I have no printer. What about Staples?
@DJCoffmanАй бұрын
Good news, they also offer poster prints now , large size. They definitly cost a bit more. You may also want to go check out local print shops and consult with them- they may have a digital press these days. Call around! www.bestvaluecopy.com/large-posters.html

HORRIBLE MISTAKE! Unfortunately, I followed your advice 2:55 and used Best Value Copy's printing services. Today I received my art prints, it's just a horrible printing job! I sent several images to print at Best Value Copy. I think only 2 designs out of 30+ were fine, not excellent just fine. The majority of the images have inaccurate colors, especially the reds, or have printing lines, there's no sharpness, they look so awful. I'm so sad! Some of the prints are 12x18 and they didn't send them protected, so the corners are damaged. I can't sell them like that. I ordered business cards as well. They're flimsy and cheap looking. They're not even the same size! I also ordered two prints in black and white, those look good... except for the clip they attached to them to separate from the rest, I guess. And guess what, the clip left a mark on the prints, obviously! Disappointment is a soft word for what I'm feeling about the quality of their service! DO NOT USE BEST VALUE COPY, unless you want cheap looking prints or business cards or whatever!

Sorry you had that experience, I’d say that’s rare to hear, many here in the comments and DMs have told me their prints came out great. Have you contacted them about this?? They may redo your order or refund you. Maybe something changed there… I’ll do a test in the new year.
