Surprised you didn't mention the corner welds. I've had okna windows and the corner welds compared to the endures are horrible. Also, the weather stripping started coming off of the oknas within a few months. Going with the Endure windows this time around.

How old are your OKNA windows? Usually we don’t have issues with weather stripping and corner welds
@dorothy1352 күн бұрын
I am dealing with this very issue with Provia Endure. I have a small bathroom window that is roughly Current 17 8/16 14 8/16 Provia will be 16 13/16 x 14 7/16 I am considering going casement at 19" x 32 5/8" I have other larger windows that might be able to handle that but I think this small window may look too small. A neighbor we checked with has them and did not mention the glass issue.
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC2 күн бұрын
With the window that small, you may consider fiberglass just for this window
@dorothy1352 күн бұрын
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC thank you. We may just decide to do a casement.

How do I know if I have standard sizes of my windows in the house?
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLCАй бұрын
The standard sizes are those ones that are premade and they are sold in Lowe’s or Home Depot. Unfortunately most old houses have custom sizes and the windows have to be custom ordered, but in some cases standard sizes can fit in as well

The comparable window with that pella would be Marvin infinity windows, not the essentials line. Also, those weep holes are only addtional in case water leaks into the frame, but Marvin uses a sloped frame for water.
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLCАй бұрын
Definitely Pella Impervia would be on the same page with Marvin Infinity, but sometimes it is nice to have fun and see how they perform to a more basic window. Marvin Essential has those weep holes is very unfortunate, because if the weep holes are clogged, the water stays inside the frame and in winter time may compromise the integrity of the frame by freezing and expanding.
@jr303officialАй бұрын
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC i have talked with Marvin, and those are not the main water management and only for the worst-case situation. Most companies, including pella, don't even add those addtion weep holes for the frame.
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLCАй бұрын
When the frame is completely sealed at the bottom, no need for the weep holes, because no moisture penetrates the inside of the frame. Marvin design team definitely needs to work more on making it water tight and eliminate the weeps
@jr303official29 күн бұрын
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC they are fiber glass not welded, seems. I have seen many windows, even vinyl with water in the frame. Pella and Andersons even. I think it's better to have them and not need them. It's all personal preference, tho. It shows a lot tho that even their basic line can match Pellas' upper end stuff.

This is not as easy as it looks. The demo is using a small window that makes it easy to reach the top sash when the bottom sash is tilted down. A regular sized window is difficult or impossible to lean over the bottom sash to reach the top sash release locks simultaneously.

With bigger windows, sometimes you would have to employ 2 people to do the Tilt in operation

Super Spacing glazing and Cardinal glass is a plus. Like the reinforcement and foam. I think the lack of 3-point weather stripping and exterior extrusion frame design looks very Alside bulky like. Not at OKNA's level, but better than the Simonton, ViWinco, and Wincore platforms.
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC3 ай бұрын
Yes, 3 point weather stripping would make air infiltration rating more impressive. The frame and the sash combined are on the thicker side, but when the windows are larger it should not be a big issue

OKNA utilizes a better designed/engineered extrusion. This can be confirmed after tilting the bottom sash in and checking out the meeting rail area. ProVia has chopped up interlocks and peel and stick fuzzy cheater pads to stop daylight in the corners. This is the weak point on any DH window regarding air leakage. OKNA nailed their design. The quality of the weatherstripping and balance covers is much better with OKNA. ProVia has a nicer screen with it being extruded over roll formed. OKNA hasn't embraced Duo-Tech locks yet, however we have been getting some bad Duo-Tech locks from ProVia lately in which the cam is defective and just spins 360 will not pull the tilt actuator to allow the sash to tilt. Both are great windows and I sell and install both every week. OKNA casements, awnings, and basement hoppers are much better as they have no bottom weeps to the master frames.
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC4 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience with both brands OKNA and Provia. It is very sad that Provia experiencing manufacturing defects, hopefully they are gonna fix them. Duo-locks is a nice feature, but definitely it is more complicated and gives more problems when it stops working. If that happens then in most cases the whole sash has to be replaced

Had Andersen Series 100 windows (recommended for high heat areas) installed in my new home. Three of the windows now have extensive cracks on the sashes and the glazing beads have fallen off. I have contacted Andersen numerous times, they sent out a field rep and refuse to take care of the problem. The cracks pictured below are just a very few (20-30) of them and they are continuing to get worse as Andersen pretty much said too bad. Come on Andersen make this right! So much for limited lifetime guarantee.

How does window size (framing width) change for Provia Endure if you go from inserts to full window replacement?
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC5 ай бұрын
It all depends on the existing windows you have right now. Full frame replacement requires removal of the whole frame of the existing windows, that what gives you extra window frame real estate. It does not depend on the Provia frame only. Provia Endure is definitely have thicker frame to body ratio, to cut it slightly, Provia Aspect might be an option. If you have small windows right now, then definitely it is better to do full frame replacement, otherwise inserts give you the most approachable price
@GaryKunkel-v5k5 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for the videos. How does the window size change for Provia if you go from inserts to full replacement?
@SidingWindowsWizardsLLC5 ай бұрын
The window size depends on the existing rough opening frame of the windows you have . If you have wood windows right now then usually you can get extra about 3-4 inches. If you have fairly big windows, we usually recommend to install replacement windows to make the project more budget friendly

How to measure size this window I need to buy if I want to replace just inner part f the window

The best way to have the exact measurement is to look at the sticker, that is on the side of the sash or when you lower the top sash it should be inside of the top frame

I purchased one of these windows in the 35 x 35 size w/ grids and screens for $210 at Home Depot to replace a single pane window in an old detached garage. It works well for my purpose, but I'd recommend a higher-quality window for installation in the home. I had Simonton windows installed in my home by Home Depot's contractors in 2017 and am very pleased with them.
