I was in college at SUNY Oswego in the 70's, and I had a young friend piano player. We were figuring out this great tune together. He was a great guy, and I'm sorry I lost touch with him. I hope he'll listen to this one day, read this and get in touch. A great memory!

I still remember the first time I heard this rendition of Down by the River. I was visiting a friend of a friend in Riverdale, Bronx. As soon as the record started to play i was dragged over the rainbow. This was in 1980, and I went to a record store in the East Village the next day and purchased the album.

Christmastime comes but once a year I'm so happy and the kids are happy too You’ll take the next six months to pay these bills Every time I think about it, it gives me chills I don't care, Christmas comes but once a year I'm gettin’ ready, gonna have myself a ball I'm goin' dancin', gonna dance in every hall I'm gonna finger pop 'til New Years' Eve And I don't care what I have to pay I don’t care, Christmas comes but once a year After all, all is said and done I hope your friends are the only ones Take the next six months to pay these bills Every time I think about it, it gives me chills I don’t care, Christmas comes but once a year I don't care, Christmas comes but once a year
