How to block ads on an Android box using only device settings. REBOOT after Making Changes.

This video shows how to block ads on your Android box without using any ad-blocking or DNS Changer apps and without changing any router settings. Useful if you won't want any extra apps or don't want to change your entire network's DNS. I forgot to mention that you need to reboot your device after changing the DNS settings.

Most VPN's don't allow alternate DNS while it is active. I only know of two that allow it, PIA and Nord. And no, it won't block live ads like in KZbin or Pluto TV. SmartTubeNext works for KZbin, or the AdGuard browser extension on PC browsers. No worries! For the VPN though, look into your settings and see if they will allow alternate DNS (it may be called split tunneling or something too but, I'm not sure.)

When I used the T9 box this method worked. However I have the T95 10.0 and it won't work. When I bring up the screen where you say select "Static" it won't allow me to select it. Any ideas?

Not sure o n that one no but, see what all your options are in that screen. If you have a setting to change DHCP from automatic to manual, that should be it. I'm just not familiar with the newer boxes and, it's odd because my Android 12 phone has the option for static as well.

Either one of the numbers somewhere is incorrect (double check and use the ones in the video description instead) or your ISP just won't allow an alternate DNS. In the case of the latter, just switch back to DHCP instead of static and it will work again (with ads). You may have to use an app like AdGuard or Blokada.

Do the same for your ethernet settings. They are two different menus but, you should have the same settings in ethernet.

I did and YT removed it for some reason. Same process but "forget" your Wifi network on FireTV, then BEFORE you click next after entering your wifi password again, click the advanced button to enter these values.

Popups outside of an internet browser could indicate malware. Run the Malwarebytes scanner app on your device. This method is not guaranteed to block everything nor does it work for KZbin, Pluto, Tubi or similar apps where the ads are part of the video feed. Correct. This is only for third party apps. This doesn't block KZbin nor PlutoTV or "live" ads. For KZbin you will need either the SmartTube Next app or the KZbin "Vanced" app depending on your operating system. For TV devices with Android TV or Fire TV, use SmartTube (github.com/yuliskov/SmartTubeNext). If you have a device with the mobile version of Android, use Vanced. (vancedapp.com)

Wow. Thanks for your opinion. I do state in the video "This is the Adguard DNS" and never attempt to take ANY credit for it. Just showing people how to block ads with network settings using this method, hahaha, and of course it's free. No one is charging money no matter how it's done. If one was curious I'm sure they could look up "Adguard DNS" for more info.

REBOOT after Making Changes." which implies that you have put forth a video that shows something new and will show the viewer how to accomplish the goal of blocking ads by way what you are offering; a title like this would be both more honest but also not waste many peoples time that already know about adguard etc: "How to use Adguards DNS servers to block ads on your Android v8 or older device settings. (REBOOT necessary after Making Changes) v9 is similar but is covered elsewhere." That not only would directly eliminate the time wasted by anyone that already knows how to use adguards dns servers on older android builds but also help break down the divisional line for this topic which was partially solved in v9 and that which your video fails to address despite being created long after v9s release. Oh and yes there is the FREE access to base DNS servers but not everything Adguard is free so it should also mention that there are paid Adguard options/software as well as alternatives

Not that it matters.. but today I helped source, gather and package up some toys (including one very special old long OOP one that is their fav ) to be shipped to a mentally challenged person on the other side of the country. I'm also picking up cat food for my oldest son to save him a trip on the bus with greater covid exposure potential and making dinner for my elderly "step father" since my mom passed. I'm partially finished building another computer system for another elderly man to use since he cant walk very well anymore... and the interaction with the world via the computer brings him something better to be able to do that sit and watch tv. As for the rest of the world I helped make Firefox (for free) for many years and has helped millions of others have a browser that was good and not just a tool for pushing Microshafts crap or others various agendas. To which I also now help others avoid the use of Chrome instead of a safer much less intrusive version of a browser based on the chromium engine such as Brave or Dissenter. I also still help teach firearms safety to both kids and adults alike as time permits and some other activities that help the public in general. ps helpful can be a good thing. Progressive is an idiotic term mostly overused by dolts that fail to even grasp its meaning but love to sling it and many other words around like it makes them sound important or something. Meanwhile reality is it just proves them to be all the more the fool; Typically those dolts are also commonly referred to as sjws and/or snowflakes for good reason. They also are like this video.. all too often claiming credit directly or indirectly for things they really did not do and that sort of BS needs to be called out when found.. the same as I did for this video.. the making of the video was not the problem.. and if you read carefully you would know that. The pathetic failure to actually give credit is the problem, and esp to not do so from the start and thereby wasting peoples time and for nothing more than another click on the ripoff content..
