Ngl, I came up with my own fantasy railroad in the US, being called the PSFS (Pensacola & Santa Fe Southern) without knowing this railroad existed. The PSFS would have a fleet of F7 passenger and freight locomotives, E6 Passenger Locomotives, ES44DC Freight and (Fantasy) Passenger Locomotives, SD70ACe Yard Locomotives, GP38-2 Yard Locomotives, AlCo PA1 Locomotives, and even some (Fantasy) reproduction Baldwin Sharknose Locomotives. The line would have a passenger route from Barstow, CA to Pensacola, FL while sharing freight lines on the same route with transfer yards in San Diego, CA and Mobile, AL. Three major yards would include Barstow, CA, Pearl, MS, and Pensacola, FL. There would be subdivision off the mainline. But I discovered this railroad 8 months after coming up with it.

Hello Thomas, a beautiful Christmas train, thank you for sharing. Unfortunately, things don't always go so peacefully. Yesterday evening, December 20th, 2024, at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, a scene where a person drove into people with his car and so far five people have lost their lives and 200 have been injured, some seriously. I don't know what goes on in such people's minds. I wish you a peaceful and contemplative Christmas. Best wishes, Wolfgang

Santa Fe locomotive 2926 is handsome and spectacular example of steam power, I am eager to see this engine operate in excursion service as the 2926 hasn't had a serious long distance mainline run in about 70 years.

@ScottKew-g8r22 күн бұрын
The last freight was actually towards the end of 1968. There is a nice article in TRAINS about it. That last year the Railroad had only sent round trip 5 trains over the pass between snow melt off and September of that year. They weren t even plowing it through the winter at that point anymore.

What were they hauling? 2 refers for what? Where did they pick up the passenger cars with people in them? And why so many empty gondolas? What were they going to pick-up? Plus, where do they get their coal? I know that they converted their 🚂 locomotives to oil but they would still use coal to heat their stoves in the shop and caboose!! I would like to have a more detailed show, please!!!

Once or twice a year they run what you could call a "rail fan's special" where it's just a back and forth with empty freight cars for photographers. They aren't hauling anything with them. They asre a museum after all, and part of the job of museum is to showcase what actual operations would have looked like.
@vinnyheaphy137225 күн бұрын
@snagletoothscott3729 <Ah, ha! OKAY!! Certainly a waste of resources not to pick something up and take it back to the shop!!!
@snagletoothscott372925 күн бұрын
@@vinnyheaphy1372 Yea, but it's tourist railroad and an operating museum, not a commercial carrier. there's nothing to pick up. There's no customers on the line, whatsoever, and hasn't been since the 1960's. It's just an opportunity for railfanners to see what a actual train would have looked like in operation (as many of the tourist passenger cars are from from historical) while also being useful in getting some of the freight cars some spin time on the bearings to keep them from seizing up. They do also do some offseason training and certifications for their operators on these, also. So it all serves a purpose, just not a financial one. And from what the OP said about this particular run, it was a charter railfan/photo run. So that answers where the passengers came from.

I have lived in Colorado since 1975 and have visited Tennesee Pass dozens of times. First of all your video work is outstanding especially with the drones, I also found your commentary to be informative but I think that the chances of reopening TP to be zero. Besides the huge cost of rebuilding the line from the sub ballast up there will be a huge political uproar about reopening the line. Buena Vista and Salida will not be happy about the prospect of heavy tank car trains, explosive or not, rumbling through their tourist towns. Maybe the Moffat Line may have been operating at capacity at one time but with the demise of Western Colorado and Eastern Utah coal the number of trains has sharply decreased. Two passenger trains, two UP locals and two BNSF trackage rights trains are about all that one can count on. If there is capacity problems on their respective main lines and if the train is low priority like rail or empty tank cars maybe the UP or BNSF will send a train or two over the DRGW (RIP) and maybe not. If you want a simidepressing experience camp close to the tracks for a day or two. Empty tracks in beautiful country. I think the chances of reopening Tennessee Pass is about equal to reopening the South Park Alpine tunnel RIP. In the meantime I can enjoy your video.

Thank you for the kind words! I agree that it would be difficult task, politically and economically to open it.
