I started calisthenics in 2006 when I first started lifting. Did chinups and situps everyday after school end of 8th grade. Then my junior year of high school aka 11th grade I trained exclusively calisthenics. Did pushups, pullups, pistol squats, situps from 2008 to 2009. 2010 and up I added powerlifting and weighted calisthenics my senior year of high school and freshman year of university. Around 11th grade I saw people like Bruce Lee and Herschel Walker did calisthenics. Even saw gymnasts. Around 2010 and 2011 I saw the jacked black guys in New York like Hannibal for King, Lord Vital, D3Hundred, Zef, and others. Then LittleBeastM, FitnessFAQs, Adam Raw and others. Watching the sport explode. The sport is growing. More participants. I will even compete in the future as it comes to New Jersey and one or two more years of hitting my goal weighted chinup/pullup and weighted dip. More participants is making the sport grow. Worldwide more people are doing calisthenics and streetlifting. In USA more people are doing calisthenics and streetlifting. For one the movements are good tests of strength that complete the whole body. Also what is really helping the case for calisthenics and streetlifting is most the physiques in the sport are aesthetic and athletic and what people want to look like. The physiques of streetlifters most people go to the gym to achieve. That alone along with it's performance is helping make streetlifting and calisthenics more popular and will grow. Also leaving room for freaks to come and make people want to chase them. Even a celebrity or athlete coming across calisthenics or streetlifting and crediting it for their performance, strength, or aesthetics.

Makes no sense to compare the filming of a sport which involves lots of movement especially around a space (like an octagon or ring) VS the filming of streetlifting where the action takes place on a single piece of equipment in 1 spot. Apples to oranges.

Street lifting is just easier to progress, just like powerlifting thus more people are inclined to join
@Mr.j101-cws7 күн бұрын
Great video. I think street lifting will become more popular than the other niches. Also, streetlighting is more "accessible" than dynamics,freestyle, and statics. Some instances, more elite powerlifters are learning about streetlifting, i.e ssjbob, and lee from usapl. I think fundamentally if we look into the history of strength sports, and competitions, i.e orgins of powerlifting, I think this sport will have a greater rise than the freestlye, statics section,( because more people can achieve a weighted muscle up, dip, pullup), more so than achieving a full planche press. This sport has alot of potential and more and more people in the mainstream are starting to streetlifting more i.e liftersclub, as well as rising lifters making a post on Zlat's weighted dip.
@kalosthenosverse7 күн бұрын
I think, at the global level Streetlifting is growing really fast, but that level of growth is not nearly as prevalent locally(national level) in some countries. For example in my country, India, Streetlifting is overshadowed by other sub-categories of calisthenics, mainly because its treated as just an event in what you can call a,”calisthenics festival”, with the prime highlights being the freestyle/statics events. There is no separate federation for Streetlifting yet, and these reasons are also why it doesn’t have much exposure, and consequently not a lot of athletes. But the future is promising because the big calisthenics names in our country are starting to pay more attention to SL, seeing as how Indian athletes show much more potential in SL than in any other sub-category, so hopefully its a matter of time before we have a solid presence in our country and in the world.

Best way to rehab is with isometrics imho. They allow you to use a lot of weight even when injured and they’re quite easy to recover from. High rep dynamic stuff is also good to sprinkle in.
@cannonieh446910 күн бұрын
Guys, if you don't plan to compete in streetlifting, then this kind of form is pointless. Lower the weight and do true full ROM dips Again, I'm not saying the form on the video is bad since it's acceptable in most streetlifting federations
@michaelxie103310 күн бұрын
This is also not acceptable in street lifting standards, he’s just demonstrating a dip variation for those who cannot do full ROM due to injury or in recovering phrase, or a variation for strengthening lockout strength, mush like a board press for bench that regulates ROM

Walaikum assalam, performing exercises that promote blood flow to that area can speeden the recovery process. Full ROM pushups, arnold presses, banded rotator cuff exercises, can all help. But it depends on the magnitude of the pain and if a doctor is needed.

Would you reckon that pin half rep pull ups would increase my lock out strength? I have no problem with my speed, but my lock out is very difficult. Maybe I just have the wrong grip width?
@StrengthGene13 күн бұрын
There's no truly right answer and highly dependent. You can approach it that way and strengthen a weak ROM (top half) or strengthen an already strong ROM (bottom half). Either way, dedicating time to strengthening a specific ROM means not dedicating time strengthening another ROM and the overall result could potentially end up being the same. But this depends a lot on the programming.
@MetaHominini13 күн бұрын
@@StrengthGene My 1RM has similar speed from the get-go as an explosive BW pull up with the same ROM to a certain point. Regardless, the only way to find out something works is to actually try it out. So, maybe an appropriate trial range could be 6 weeks?
@StrengthGene13 күн бұрын
Yes you’re right, experimentation will always be the most conclusive. 6 weeks is good.
@scotthogan138612 күн бұрын
Half rep pull ups are inherently worse than pull ups where you get a full stretch as the stretch is what induces the majority of muscle hypertrophy. You might increase your lockout strength relative to your bottom range of motion strength but your overall strength will increase less.
@MetaHominini12 күн бұрын
@@scotthogan1386 I just thought it as a variation like once a week in addition to normal ROM pull ups

@abiolaadekanbi746313 күн бұрын
@@Haalofdiscipline-qn5fp yes it absolutely will
@mirokolev144113 күн бұрын
Probably not since muscleups require pulling as explosive and as low as possible. For muscleups I would try to pull waist to bar.
@StrengthGene13 күн бұрын
Developing explosive strength through pullups will have carryover to muscle ups. Regular pullups wouldn’t be as good as a chest/waist-to-bar but when just talking chin-to-bar pulls, fast pulls are better than slow pulls.

@@BingBongWasheeWashee if y’all don’t mind me jumping in as well. I personally like when I have my legs straight just bc it helps with a bit of my core. When I’m doing home workout sesh I bend my knees. It’s not that much of a difference more of a preference thing for pull but I also wonder his answer to this.
@xclosedchainx13 күн бұрын
@@abiolaadekanbi7463Legs straight is optimal. But in many occasions the bar is too low to the ground to do it, and/or the person is too tall. So people only bend their legs out of necessity really.
@StrengthGene13 күн бұрын
@xclosedchainx This is correct. If I switched to straight legs, I’d perform worse because I’m used to bent legs. So I just need a block or 2 of straight leg training and it would be better in the long run.
@BloxBeat012 күн бұрын
@@StrengthGene Yeah. The truth is there is not much of a difference between straight or bent legs. Bent legs can though pose some stability problems in terms of swinging, especially when you've never really done it before. What is significantly going to affect pull ups will be Nonstop+Deadstop vs Deadstop pull ups, that is in terms of concurrent weight usage.
@abiolaadekanbi746313 күн бұрын
