Great video as always! I'm practically sold In Utero IR at this point! One thing - I saw people online saying these pickups are the same as Phase I/II - they're ABSOLUTELY not. They are more like hot strat pickups or something measuring at 9.49K in the bridge and 9.24 in the neck. Phase II is 7.33 for bridge and 7.62 in the neck. At least these are the measurements I got from my guitars. I don't have ET-270 anymore, but it might have been slightly wider at the nut while the rest of the neck was as slim as HF

hey JQ you listened to my comment, it was such a great idea to make this a video!! sounds great.. like a tiny picture into the sound kurt used at one point in time pre nevermind... super cool.. he deffs used a fender twin reverb silverface for the bleach tour with this guitar.. and of course the vintage ds-1, no small clone.. lol absolute workhorse, just clean or distortion is all you need..

YEEESSS we need more ET270 content! 🥳 sounds so good, my favorites were Dive & Even in His Youth This model holds a special place in my heart, I’ve researched it left & right but I was today years old when I learned they were first made with the strat style headstock 🤯 very fitting considering the body shape, basically Epiphone’s take on a Stratocaster I read on a forum someone saying that it’s a bass boost switch, but it actually makes way more sense that it’d be cutting frequencies instead of adding. Always learning something new from JQ, thanks for this video!! 👏🏻
@jq.guitars6 күн бұрын
Thanks! I too heard that it's a bass boost switch, but there is a capacitor on that switch acting as a high pass filter. With that switch removed entirely, it would sound the same as if that switch were up

Well the it’s like a Univox type guitar right thing!!! It’s a Japanese guitar “sears catalog” thing and brands out there names on it:] other companys that also sold this guitar were “Aria” and “lyle”…the arias and epiphones where made in the same factory apparently!:] I really wanna buy the aria one

Sounds really good on the bleach songs! When I first got my utah quad reverb i thought guitars didnt matter at all, but after try and try with different guitars Ive been left with a true realization that the guitars seem to matter as much as the amp. My mustang is very thin on the bass side compared to my jag and the gibson les paul is very overall thin sounding on the quad but very distinct on my marshall cab.

I have a question about the Fender Mustang that Kurt Cobain used during the recording of the In Bloom music video. The video is in black and white, and I’ve never seen that specific guitar before. It appears to have a single-coil pickup configuration, a white pickguard, and what seems to be a Skystang-colored body. However, I also noticed that the headstock doesn’t appear to have a genuine Fender logo. After searching, I managed to find a color image, possibly taken behind the scenes of the video shoot. The guitar appears to be Skystang blue, but I can’t be certain if the image is authentic or if it was a black-and-white photo that someone later colorized. So my main question is: What guitar was Kurt actually using in that video? A Skystang-colored Fender Mustang with a white pickguard, dual single-coils, and possibly no real Fender logo is something I’ve never seen him use before.
@jq.guitars7 күн бұрын
@lelee.50 It was a 1965 left handed Fender Mustang. The headstock logo is correct for that model
@lelee.506 күн бұрын
@ did he ever used that guitar ever live?
@jq.guitars6 күн бұрын
@lelee.50 It was not, it seemed to just be a guitar in Kurt's personal collection. He had a lot of rare 60s Fenders, even right handed, in his collection that he never played live or in Studio

So on In Utero during the sessions at Pachyderm for the Solo on Heart-Shaped Box the effect-boxes Kurt used were the Tech 21 SansAmp, EHX Echoflanger and Pedal X?

Have a black strat I am doing a Cobain build on and can't decide between hot rail or super D. The super D seems to have crispier cleans, think I'm leaning towards the SD. What do you say on the matter?

Whilst the filter matrix might not have been used a lot, if at all, it sounds damn close for all intents and purposes.

its a custom made pedal by a producer that was given to the producer of In Utero, the late Steve Albini. For a while that was the only one ever made, now I belive a total of 3 exist. One is owned by the creator of this video, one is owned by @aaronrash, and the other i belive is owned by steve albinis estate.

do you think you could achieve something similar with a DOD gonkulator? its also a ringmod/distortion like this
@jq.guitars18 күн бұрын
@LizordSword Maybe
@gavinrolls10542 күн бұрын
just tried it and you can. in fact in a way its a little bit easier since the actual track also has a bit of drive along with pedal x (probably from the amp?) and the gonkulator adds that too. plus it does a very minor compression to the signal which is also neat cause the actual track also has that
