The backrooms videos were so much better than this incessant whining about things that don't matter.

I played Minecraft for the first time on version 1.2.5 and a week later 1.3.2 update came out and the villager trading system was added, so Minecraft always has been "lived-in" for me. Watching gameplay videos of beta versions, the game feels hostile and alien... or rather you feel like an alien to this almost empty world with just a couple of structures of unknown origin, but at the same time it's very atmospheric, even if also very eerie. Not to make newer versions look bad, but it feels like Minecraft lost something with more and more "atmospheric" and immersive additions in each update. Beta looks similar to our world and yet it's very different and new versions look very much like our world with much more of the familiar flora and fauna and realistic terrain, but JUST SLIGHTLY different in some aspects. The game is now full of lore and the remnants of a ton of ancient civilizations, the player still is an alien to that world, but in a very different way than it was before... The game became much easier with a lot of ways of staying satiated, protecting yourself and simply being able to sprint away from danger, or skipping every night. It's much more welcoming to the players with it's familiarity to the real world and full of different attractions and activities to keep players engaged lowering the "entry level" for the game. I really liked one "physical" example of that mentioned in one video as players nowadays are much more interested in building pretty houses for themselves instead of building castles or other fortifications against the hostile world like it was before. Of course, the block palette and players' (collective) experience are another reasons for that, but I think it still shows the difference in players' mindsets in the old and newer versions. My first building in Minecraft was a house on high stilts with a moat around it, because I didn't feel safe, now I can make a good set of gear and a bed on the first day and then live under the open sky for hundreds of days while gathering resources for my dream house or being engaged in digging up the archeological site, trading, farming or in something else. I don't think Mojang will ever change it back, if it's even possible... I guess, playing hardcore is the only way now to experience the hostility of the old Minecraft on newer versions.
