In my opinion meteorite will have the signs of molten rock, so that it wont have any sharp corners or sides, it will be smooth, also the shape will be , the bottom part will be broad than the upper part, because the meteorite will be falling to earth in half molten form, like a water drop , because of earth gravity it will have that shape,, it wont have any rough edges, i have many with me, 🌹🌹i am a collector of Rocks , its my hobby🌹

Real meteorite stones do not stick to magnets, because the iron metal has burned out in the heat of the earth's atmosphere. Only high levels of precious metals remain, such as rhodium, palladium, and nickel. And they can only burn above a temperature of 1500°C. that's the reason why meteor stones are expensive. because they contain metals that are more expensive than 24k yellow gold

All meteorites are VERY heavy. Heavier than their size would be, I know,, have seen AND handled two that are OF different sizes and both are very different in sizes .. but THEIR weight is more heavy than the average sized OF other other rocks.. INCLUDING iron ore, MOST are OF high nickel boron content. My sister inlaw is a gemologist and my brother has two

A few months ago, I was going for a walk at night, and I saw something amazing… What looked like a shooting star shot past me right over the bridge where I was walking. Literally 50-100 ft over my head! There were a few other people outside at the time and they all saw the same thing. I thought it could’ve been a meteorite, so I decided I would go search for it later on. Well, a few days later when I had time, I decided to take a walk in that direction (where it would have landed). There was a spot where it looked like something had crashed. All the trees in that area were broken in half. You could almost make out its trajectory with how the trees were broken. So I started checking this area for like an hour but couldn’t find anything. But I wasn’t about to give up. About a week later I returned, and as I was walking by the area I found this black rock that looked like a meteorite. I did a reverse image search of the stone and the only thing that came up were meteorites. A few weeks later I went back to that spot, and I found another one - except this one looked a bit more rusted. Doing my research, both stones looked exactly like meteorites. Well I stumbled across this video and did all the tests you described. To my surprise they passed all the tests - at least from my point of view. The only thing that made me question whether they were the real deal was that both stones were broken in half. So I don’t know if they are two halves of one stone or two separate stones. Either way I’m hopeful that these are potential meteorites! I definitely want to get them appraised somehow so I can know for sure… It’s exciting though knowing I potentially found one!

True that like lava rocks Meteorites Don't have vesicles and are vesicular: although they do get "zap pitting" which mimics vesicles. My ezample would be both Canyon Diablo *meteor crater AZ, and moon rocks both contain abundant zap pitting. I would defy anyone else to both tell the difference between zap pits and vesicles.

I’m getting extremely confused by meteor ID videos.. I’m super new to the hobby but have a decent background in rockhounding. I just have an issue with the “if it has this, then it can’t be”. It’s too grainy, it’s translucent, it has hole, etc. I’ve spent about 7 hours going through the official record and I’ve found exceptions for just about all of those. This extremely simple guide is good information, but drawing a hard line in the sand on the simple ID features.. well it’s just going to end up making people never report their finds. From what I’ve collected it seems to be that everyone has a guide for the common 5 or so classifications. Which is fair, but they never mention the 20 other classifications, and there is no way we’ve classified every possible variant. I know a lot of these outliers are one offs, but posting a video saying they can never be a meteor is not going to help… 2 cents sry

I found a gray rock in a tailings pile at an old ghost town silver mining camp in western New Mexico. It's as heavy as a red brick, but only about sixty percent of the size, and it caused my metal detector to ring loud and clear. It will definitely cause a string-hanging magnet to move, but only very slightly, which leads me to believe that there are other metals within it. The edges aren't sharp, but they're not smooth, either. That, and the fact of where it was found makes me believe that it's not a meteorite. Any opinion about what I found would be greatly appreciated.

I knew a place where there were literally hundreds of them--but they were all small and were pretty much metallic fragments. Magnets pick them up, and erosion leaves them on the surface. They are almost 100% iron. Some of them are a mixture of iron and contain phenolic compounds--we called them carbonaceous chondrites.
