I despise the "it's for kids" argument so much. Kids deserve quality content too. They're not stupid, they can tell the difference.

“It’s a kids movie.” One of the first lines of dialogue in the teaser: “What the hell?” Ah yes, we all know that movies meant only for kids often have swear words in it.

My argument before watching the video: idc if the movie isn't meant for us. Kids' movies were always meant to be funny for all ages, not just kids. That's why there are innuendos and easter eggs, so that parents in the theater for their kids and their movies will find humor. Kids' movies appeal to kids, but they're not executed and produced with the quality and effort of an absolute dump from hell. Kids movies can be written very intellectually and professionally and appeal to people that appreciate good storytelling and good film production. So far, what we know about this movie, the trailer has hit nothing but the target of kids that find brainrot funny.

Minecraft is a game that spans over generations of people. Many of the people who got into it as a kid are not kids anymore, but they remain a fan of the franchise. This game is not just for kids anymore, it definitely has an audience in more grown up age ranges as well. Teens, young adults, heck I bet you'd find some senior citizens who got into it after their retirement. It is a game that is kid friendly, but it is not a game exclusively for kids- so why should the movie be? Also, I hate this sentiment that things made for kids have to be thoughtless brainrot. A truly good kids movie is one that children _and_ grown ups can come together and enjoy. Why can we apparently no longer strive to make movies like these? Where is the effort?

I thought “who would make a stupid article like this” and then I saw the Kotaku logo. People aren’t upset because the movie is aimed at kids, they’re upset because the movie doesn’t reflect Minecraft.

I think it should have been live action in the beginning, in the real world. Then, have the characters become animated. Perhaps in an almost body horror way.

I never thought writers could just put rage bait in their articles for clicks. Minecraft is E for EVERYONE. There are older people that play minecraft too. There are kids that think the trailer sucks so their "Just for kids" statement isn't true. Just because a movie is made for kids doesn't mean it shouldn't be held to a quality standard, it's horrific. Most of this article is this guy making bad take after bad take. Either this guy is trying to bait us for clicks or he's out of touch.

I’m not saying kids shouldn’t get to have a Minecraft movie, I’m saying that well yeah a chunk of the Minecraft fanbase are children but the rest is grown people that have actually played the game for years and some that dedicated there whole life to it and have been waiting for decades FOR THIS CHEAP CASH GRAB OF A MOVIE, What I’m saying is that this should also be for the fanbase that have been with Minecraft for years and this shouldn’t just be directed towards 2 year olds Minecraft is even enjoyable for elders, no this movie shouldn’t be rated R, Pg 13 fits perfectly with Minecraft, yes children deserve Minecraft movie since some are huge fans, but warner bros should honestly take the opportunity to make this movie enjoyable for the children, the adults that have been fans for years, and elders just like the game before it’s too late, they need the mindset of the fnaf movie, they made sure the fans were happy and they didn’t even care about it the movie made money or not, they just wanted the fans to be happy. But even the kids are saying it sucks they need to do something while they still can.

One observation I've seen is that this movie might not actually even be about minecraft? As in, it's not meant to expand the worldbuilding, reimagine it, or immerse us into its reality. It's just "wOaH, lOoK aT tHiS sTrAnGe wOrLD! 🤪" and this world just happens to be blocky and have game-like crafting mechanics. It has no interest in what Minecraft actually has to offer, just how funky and silly everything is because it's made of Squares It could've been any game world. Minecraft's just happens to be the most marketable

That writer insisting that minecraft, not just the movie, but in general, is for kids is just so annoying, because... no. It's not 'for kids.' It's for everyone. Minecraft is for _everyone._ That, of course, means minecraft is kid friendly, but I just take issue with the implication that that's the only demographic minecraft is trying to reach or being made for, because it's simply not true.

It really needs to be asked and studied: why do these people at Hollywood think using the "it's not made for you" logic when making a movie to a popular/well-known IP that will surely not sit right with fans is a good idea? And why do they insist on making the "animation is for kids" argument when animation has existed for 100 years and have been enjoyed by all ages?

I grew up with Minecraft, like a lot of the fans, and although I do not play it much anymore, I am still the one who has to take my kids to see it, or choose not to. So why shouldn't it be for us as well? And why is garbage excusable simply because it's for children? At the end of the day, you need to sell the parents to get the kids, regardless of the fact that a lot of us are the OG Minecraft fans who realize this is just a quick cash grab. This is just further proof that journalists only exist to be contrarian to the consumer.

the article red flag (for me) is that he said his kid was 'entertained' by the trailer. not that they enjoyed it, or loved it, or wanted to talk about it, but _entertained_ by it, as if it was the flashiest pair of jingling keys that ever existed. just, you know, with current day movie ticket prices.

Y'all are going to hate me but I don't actually think the Minecraft movie looks bad, I think it has a bad lighting problem and has a bad editing problem. It feels like the trailer is. I don't hate the independent CGI and I also don't hate the live-action sets I just hate the way they look on the same stage it's like they weren't blended correctly in post.

I always say that movies in general should be done well. Great script, great visuals, great messages. A film that's meant to inspire and bring any positive emotion by the end of the film. As a kid, I frickin loved treasure planet, I still do and watch it so many times! It was the same with Tinkerbell or the Barbie movies. They are still fantastic movies that still hold up today and they are memorable movies that people still watch, and they carry good messages about friendship, love and family. I just absolutely hate it when I see movies that have half- assed scripts and visuals, where the story barely makes much sense or the message is wack, and people say "oh it's just a kids movie, they're not going to understand, they are kids after all" It's stupid. Because then the kids will grow up thinking that that's what a good story/ movie should be like. Overall, I think they missed a great opportunity making an animated minecraft movie about Steve, or it could even be about a different character. No famous actors needed for the role, and definitely no live action. You could think of a million stories! Could be about Steve/ different character who somehow ends up becoming friends with an enderman, and they venture out, fighting mobs, visiting lands and finding something they shouldn't have. And in the middle of the story the enderman and the character have an argument and their friendship falls apart (I wonder how an enderman who doesn't talk would argue?), but then they make up at the end of the film. It's just a quick and random Idea, but it would be so fire to see something like that as a movie.

Since You kept asking despite it being the first thing the article says, I’ll re-iterate for you, Minecraft wasn’t aimed at kids until it blew up online and like anything that popular was made to become for kids, not notch nor Jeb nor any other pre-Microsoft buying Minecraft employees wanted to make a kids game really, and yes Microsoft did shift down the target demographic, but Minecraft was never conceived as a children’s game, and wasn’t a kids game until it had already been hugely popular for years.
