As a middleschool math, i have been trying to find why, maths in general believe ".99..." is 1. In the video, one explanation was "you have to give up something". After a year of this journey, I believe it is maths treatment of infinity. Infinity is necessary to describe Real Numbers and a host of other concepts in math. I see no reason to give up anything to simply say ".99..." is 1. What are we giving up? Real numbers are a unique and precise value. Infinity in number notation cant represent a unique and precise value on first impression. Infinity in finite arithmetic causes problems. In number base place notation a integer such as 1, does not have any digits to the right of the radix point. Rational numbers are the result of the division of 2 integers. The square and square root of ".99..." do not yield 1, and can also be shown not to equal ".99..." So what is ".99..."? It is not a Real number value. It can easily be viewed as a sequence of 9s following the decimal point, that represents a series of positive values. Since it is infinite, it represents a set of numbers less than 1. What does ".99..."=1 even mean? The = sign doesn't tell us mutch. You could say that a formula shows that the series represented by ".99..." has a limit of partial sums that equals 1. Because math does not believe that there is no number value between ".99..." and 1, the Archimedean property says they are the same. I don't believe that there are no numbers between the greatest value represented by ".99..." and 1. I believe this is the result of base place notation system. There are representations in other bases that are closer, such as ".ff..." in hexadecimal even though the limits are the same.. Again a problem of infinity. The valuable concept of infinity is dangerous, incomplete, inconsistent and imprecise

You don't break algebra by saying that ".99..." has a limit of 1. However you normally break arithmetic trying to use infinite representations of numbers. You could say ".11..."+.11..."=".22..." Even 3*".33..."=".99..." Problems arise in ".99..."+".11..."=? "1.11..1?0 4*".33..."=?"1.33..3?2 As you square .99 and increasing the 9s, the result tends to .99..9800..01 Also the square of any number of all 9s ends in 1, even infinite 9s if you could complete it, making it finite. Which is what you are doing when you say ".99..." is 1.

I'm really curious and if anyone reads this buried yt comment why did Matt do this video when he did it? I must have seen several people post on this exact subject at nearly the same time. So I'm pretty sure this was a coordinated effort on the part of some organization. What organization was it? How much were they paying these creators to do these videos on the "red wave" or whatever?

"it's got a bit of a spiral shape going on" yes, the 2D ones also spiraled...i've seen these patterns IRL but instead of cubes they are spheres My guess for how many tilings fill 3D space: ALL OF THEM, every 3D configuration fits into a 4D space, so unfolding a shape into smaller shapes should also tile (time to check the website) hmmmm, two left? Nevermind they've been solved but not verified lmao

I got this game for Christmas when I was in Grade School. It didn't take me long to figure out how to beat Dr. Nim every time... Once you play the game enough times, you recognize from looking at the levers, exactly how marbles Dr. Nim would take if it was HIS turn. THAT is how many marbles that I would choose to take. Every time it was my turn to go, I'd take the number that Nim would take in the same setup. I never lost again.

The algorithm just presented this video to me, 4 years later, and I have a clue that might help solve the puzzle if it hasn't already: what are the actual number of stops between the two stations? Google maps says it's 6 stops (which matches the binary complement), but the length of the journey is now only 1:35(!) and the train line now shows up as "Avanti West Coast"(!)

Yes I am going to argue - maybe the reason the Romans had only one lower character to the left was because there is an implied minus sign - two characters, particularly if you were to voice it. Now what happens to dogs named ASTERIX? - they start a 10!

For reference, 35mm is equivalent to around 5.6k digital resolution (better than most TV/monitors, smaller than an Apple XDR Display) Whereas IMAX is the equivalent to *18k* digital resolution! That's around twenty 4K TVs stacked together 😂 ↓ _(Disclaimer: resolution is theoretical and means something different depending on who you ask)_

I’m slightly confused when n != 5, why if our winning number is an O column number, why it has to be the first O… For n=6, you could have B, I, N, G all in row and then O one row up, and then O to make your bingo, no?
@mercrazzle
@mercrazzle Күн бұрын
I realised since this, that this is answered by the "If somebody can win they do" Which I originally took for some reason just to mean that human error of noticing you had bingo, or hiding your win is taken out of the question, but I now realise it means that all possible bingo cards are playing the game, such that if a B, I, N, G and O are all present, then somebody will win, and that is the card we look at.

"comedic premise" is a noun, so it's "comedic pre-miss", it's only "prem-eyes" when you're /doing/ it "we're not setting up a comedic premise" the verb-phrase is SETTING UP you could say "we're not premising this comedically" to use it as a verb or something.
