This is What a Personal Protection Dog is supposed to be. The Handler /Owner kept his dog within 6 Meters, Dog stayed in close Proximity with Family. The Threshold on the dog, where the threat had to come to the Family and the K9 shows that dog is safe on the streets, not a liability. A true Personal Protection Dog in my Opinion should not be doing Sends, or being deployed where the dog is leaving the handler in a street civilian situation. If a dog has to be sent after a suspected threat In the same fashion as the Courage Test in protection sports or Law Enforcement application, then that is no longer considered protection, but is now an assualt charge, even if you were actually being threatened, you can still get sued. If you have the option to leave the scene do so, if you have no choice, stand your ground. This dog was well trained by professionals who truly understand the laws, allowing civilians to have reliable Non Lethal Forces of protection, that will Deter threat or make them comply. This is what makes a dog more valuable than a Firearm, even though a Firearm is more Powerful and Lethal.

Great, but if the bitten guy reported the bite to the Police what would happen to the dog? Now a days society is very anti dogs that bite. I'm not. Thank you .

Thanks for your comment. I think you will find that if the dog was being used as a means of defence the dog biting would most likely be justified. Remember proportionate use of force is justified under the laws of this country, to protect yourself, your property or in some cases to stop a criminal act. I for one would rather defend my position in a court room if it came to it, than in a side street being confronted by two guys who in this day and age will probably be carrying weapons of some kind. Trained dogs are always better behaved than non trained dogs in my opinion. Over vaccination is killing dogs far earlier than they use to. World Small Animal Vets Association has said every 3 years is enough ,yet Vets still want to boost yearly. It is their bread and butter money. I personally only do puppy shots than titre after that. I would have thought toilet training would be done prior to handover. Not being critical. I didn't like Protection dogs Worldwide as they got weird when I asked why they didn't use Malinois. Apparently, according to them, they are too neurotic. I think that says quite a bit. I was looking for a Personal Protection Dog at the time, never had the time for replying to my questions. As a dog trainer myself I obviously had many. Never did get a Protection dog. One thing not mentioned is that Insurance for any dog taught to bite is more expensive I believe. Great answers to the questions guys. Thank you.

Thank you for the comments. With regard to oiver vaccinating, that could be a debate all on it's own, so I think I would just say it's up to the owner to decide their own plan of action, however, having seen dogs sick with parvo etc over the years, I do vaccinat my own dogs and all of the dogs in the kennels are fully jabbed. Ref insurance, I have heard conflicting things from clients, some who have said that their insurers were not concerned that their dog was taught to bite, others saying that they have had to shop around to get an insurer to take them on. I think that sometimes it comes down to terms used on the proposal, i.e. referring to your dog as a home security dog versus a family protection, dog may make all the difference. Regards Charles

I originally thought Hwnk was a GSD mix, he is according to his official paperwork a Malinois. He is the second long haired Malinois that we have had. Truly awesome dog. Regards Charles A1K9

Yeah, so? It may be cheaper but will you ever have a companionship with a gun? Will a gun alert you of a threat in the middle of the night? Is a a gun legal in your area? I'm certain that a dog is legal in your area. Will a concealed carry pistol deter any would be criminals? No, it won't because it's concealed and they probably won't see it. A large, loud barking would certainly deter any criminals.

Beautiful dog and love how alert he is throughout the walk, always watching for threats. This is one very well trained dog. My beautiful pet German Shepherd is quite obedient and protective - but nowhere near to this level. well done :)

Very nice. We hope to reach this level of training with our Cane Corso. A Lot of socialization, literally we have him around 100s of children and people a week, but he is also doing well at playing clinch games. Inspirational video, thank you.

sport protection, poor little doggie would probably run the first time it's kicked hard, or hit with a bat. Very few dogs can stand up to a real threat. However most purse snatchers will just move on to the next victim if a big dog is involved.
