Miss the big guy. Can’t believe his first video was April 2008.

One of my faves too. They had several “Screamer of the week” wins on WLIR here in NY. Got to see them live and I’m glad I did. Ian is a helluva bass player.

Everyone here keeps saying Ms Lieberman wrote the song, but Lieberman herself never says she wrote it. She says she wrote a poem that she gave to the lyricist and then they wrote the song.. There was never a poem mentioned until the Fugees had their hit... AND there is no actual poem--- but there is this interview on the Mike Douglas show where Lori herself explained how Norman Gimbel had a lyric called "Killing Me Softly with His Song" and she related to it. Mike Douglas asks her "Do you write your own songs" and she says "No, I'm getting into it, Fox & Gimbel write all my songs". She admits that she has only written one song as of this interview (it's on her first album and it's called "My Lover do You know")-- So why would you doubt what she is saying herself here. I mean, she was only like 19 and incredible that she was getting her own featured album on Capitol record who also had Helen Reddy and Frank Sinatra then. .Norman Gimbel at this point was 42, and had written about 30 standards by this point including "the Girl from Ipanema" ... and Lori's saying she had only written one song and Fox & Gimbel write all her songs-- so why are people doubting her. Do they think she's lying? She had every opportunity to explain the poem here or say "I actually wrote it"... And people also feel like it's a crime that.she has all this talent and no one knows who she is. Well, that's just show biz. Capitol made 4 albums with her on the cover... The songwriters were writing hit songs for Barry Manilow and Olivia Newton John and Roberta Flack... The public just didn't come out for her. She had a tremendous run, considering all anyone ever did was lose money on her... But people are generally stupid, and they don't understand how the record business works and they have too much time on their hands. But watch the interview-- I'm curious what you think after watching it after this whole production . kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYXceH94drOohck

This video is burned into my personality lol. When I got into beat making and sampling in high school, I saw this video and it helped stoke the flame of my passion for digging and learning about all those classic samples. Years later now, my brain is like a friggin database for drum breaks, classic records, samples, chops, different heavily samples artists. And I always make sure to keep THIS energy right here. Keeps me young. Keeps me fresh.

Lori Lieberman is the creator of Killing Me Softly, her version is sublime, but sadly she did not get the credit and money that she deserves for it.
