@@en2oh The pressure release is triggered at 1 bar, which this compressor can barely reach. You need to keep in mind that this kind of compressor is designed for high volume output, not high pressure like for example a tire inflator. I did a separate stress test, filling the reservoir to 3 bars (using a different pump) without any issues, so there´s plenty of safety margin. It could probably stand a lot more, but I didn´t want to break it just to find out how much more.

This is an interesting solution for a Rittreck camera. However I reviewed the website but did not find information on the following: (1) Will it accept the Linhof filmholders? The Fidelity 5x7 holders are in my measurement 18.2mm thick while the Linhofs are something 21.8mm thick. (2) Is there any way to attach a Rittreck 5x7 viewing hood in your design? @e-mat6077

It depends on many variables like temperature and resistance. The deeper you go, the more resistance, the higher the current draw. It´s always better to be on the safe side. You need to do your own research and then add a sufficient safety margin. Even though Lipos have great capacity, they are not the safest option because their BMS will automatically cut off the power once the minimum voltage is reached, so you need to stay aware of your battery status at all times.

The compressor you mentioned is very different from the one I used. The Einhell uses much higher pressure, but relatively low volume, so you would need to use a regulator with higher intermediate pressure setting. Also, I have no information about the internal structure of the compressor, so I cannot say whether the air it produces is clean enough (free of oil and particles) for breathing. If it uses pistons instead of membranes you need to expect some debris. You really need to do your own research.

@e-mat6077 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your question. This was my personal proof-of-concept project and it works very well. And thanks for asking, I´m still very much alive. The 3d-files that I made are by no means on a fool-proof or plug-and-play level. Without solid background knowledge on diving safety and sufficient technical understanding, they wouldn´t be safe to use. Of course, there are also many people here who would posess the necessary know-how to build and use it safely - but there are also some others that don´t. If I made the plans public, I´d have no way of making sure that whoever decides to use them also has the necessary skills and knowledge to do it safely. There is a risk that someone might use the plans who really shouldn´t. If you go through this comment section, you will notice that some of the comments and questions here clearly indicate that there are also people interested in this project who lack even the most basic knowledge necessary to use such a device safely. I understand that this might be frustrating for those who could find the plans useful and would use them responsibly. On the other hand, those who do have the necessary knowledge and skills might find this info useful for making their own construction, even without any of my plans. After all, it´s a relatively simple device, but you have to understand what you are doing and be aware of all potential risks.

You can adjust it to fit the pressure of your compressor. Adjust it until it closes at exactly the maximum pressure that your compressor produces. No air is supposed to flow unless you inhale. I also changed the hose on the regulator for a wider one with 10mm inner diameter. It will improve breathing characteristics.

He great system. I'm planning to make a hookah diving rig my self. Im locking ad a compressor similar to yours but instead of 70L/min this one puts out 160L/m an has 0.02MPa more (i dont think that 0.02 is going to make any difference). The only thing I don't understand is how deep you can go on ... MPa, PSI or Bar. And would you recommend a small airtank Like your ring?
@e-mat6077
@e-mat6077 4 жыл бұрын
You need to look at the curves which show how much output in liters you will get at what pressure. For example, at 5 meters the compressor needs to overcome 0.5 bar of pressure, at 10 meters, it will be 1 bar. At the same time, the volume of the air that the compressor is able to supply, will be reduced by 1/3 at 5 meters and by half at 10 meters due to the surrounding pressure. One diver needs about 15-20 Liters of air (at depth) per minute, depending on physical activity and individual properties. So as an example, if you want to dive to 10 meters, it means that you would want a compressor that is able to supply 40 liters per minute against a pressure of 1 bar. By the time the air is pumped down to 10 meters, its volume will be reduced by half, so the diver will have 20 liters to breathe per minute. 160L/min might make it possible for you to supply two divers at the same time when at shallower depths. With only one diver, you will be able to go a bit deeper, but not not much more than with the smaller compressor. I can´t give you any precise calculations without seeing the exact specs and curves, but my guess is around 7-8 meters. A buffer tank is an absolute necessity. Without one, breathing comfort will be a lot worse and maximum diving depth will be greatly reduced.
