I went with a Visible wireless unlimited hotspot on an iphone 12 mini ($230) from Amazon that feeds a TP Link AC750 nano router ($37). I now get unlimited internet anywhere on Verizon's cell tower system and the router signal extends out to about 40 ft from my Airstream. Works like a champ, is cheap ($25 a month flat fee), is stable, I routinely see 5-8Mbps, and I've run 9 devices on it simultaneously without any issues, plus, I use the phone to support the internet 24 hrs a day and as a dedicated house phone. I could up the service to 5g for $10 a month more but have no need for the extra speed.

I have an Airstream Classic and also a Pro Pride hitch. I was wondering does the snap pad on the tongue jack make it harder to disconnect the hitch. I ask because with the stabilizer bars on the Pro Pride, the hitch needs to be pretty straight behind the truck in order for the tongue jack pad to go down (fit) between the stabilizer bars. Did you find the Snap Pad for the tongue jack to make that even more of an issue as they make the tongue jack pad wider.?

Can the pep wave be used as a wan? I simply want the starlink connected to the pep wave with a pepwave lan port connected to my own mesh WiFi hub and the pep wave cellular configured for cellular backup for the starlink.

I love how you conveniently left out the most difficult part of the repair - getting the hose onto the hose end. Did you install the inner lining first and then the outer fabric sheathing or at the same time? The fabric sheathing nearly makes it impossible to get it on far enough to clear the two notches on the hose end without either ripping the inner lining or outer sheathing. I tried lubing it with dawn dish soap which worked getting the inner lining installed but no dice on the outer sheathing. I tried pulling it on with a pair of pliers but that only caused the strands of the sheathing to unwind. I finally threw in the towel after an hour trying to mess with it. My time is worth more than trying to salvage a POS $50 hose.

I decided to try one more attempt at it and I finally got the hose on there. First, I burned the edges of the fabric lining to prevent them from fraying and then I put the hose under hot running water while expanding the outer fabric sheathing with a pair of needle nose pliers from the inside (in between the inner lining and outer sheathing). This stretched it just enough where I could get the inner lining and outer lining on at the same time (while using dish soap and hot water). Then I tried using my 0.041" stainless wire from the 90's but it was way too stiff to bend around such a tight radius so I used the next size down I had which was 0.032 and that ended up working well. I've got the newer ZeroG hose with the plastic grip instead of the rubber one you have. The 2nd notch/recess on this newer style hose end was further inward, underneath the aluminum coupling making it a bit more difficult to use the tool but it can be done. Now I understand why so many of these ZeroG hoses leak right out of the box - they are extremely difficult to assemble without tearing the inner lining. They need to be pressure testing these hoses before shipping them off.

WoW - I’ve been doing repair work for nearly 40 years. Made similar repairs, using similar tools, but Never seen a tool like this. Definitely makes a lot cleaner and better fitting. Thanks for the share

@Elimlife5980 Great video! 2 QUESTIONS: Did you use the T568"B" standard for your RJ45 pinout? How exactly do you have those jumpers set? It it not possible for me to make out the arrangment in the video. And the diagram inside the lid may as well be in Greek. I am doing a similar setup for my FC25FBT.

Great video. I watched it a few times over a week or so. You give great detail on the various projects within this project. First off, how is it working out for you now that you have had it up for nearly half a year? 2) Are you using the MTC 800-GIGE-POE GbE PoE to provide power to the Starlink since you removed the Starlink router? Would you buy the Peplink setup if you had to build the system from scratch? Thank you so much, great videos and I appreciate you sharing them with us

Great video. The BR1 mini seems quite a deal. If I dont pay the $99, I just dont get the WAN, but still get the dual LTEs, right? I also saw someone using the Pep Transit router and it is quite expensive, what is the main differences? Why someone will chose that one? Thanks.

If you get the hw3 version, the BR1 is a great deal. The earlier versions have some drawbacks so I would stay away from them if you can. In particular, the hw1 version has some real throughput issues when using WiFi wan and local WiFi at the same time.

While the BR1 Mini does have 2 SIM slots, it has only a single LTE modem, so only 1 SIM can be used at a time. With the Transit DUO, that has 2 modems, and each modem has 2 SIM slots, so you can insert up to 4 SIM's, but you can use both modems simultaneously.

the other side of the POE (the non-powered side) is connected with a regular ethernet cable to the WAN port of the peplink router.

I have been unable to find a source for the proprietary connectors. However, they are not needed as you can just use a standard t568B connector using this setup.

Hi. Great video! I became an instant subscriber from an earlier video where you mention your experiences with Airstream technical support. I had similar experiences and took my router from Airstream's control too. I am integrating my Starlink into my 33' 2019 Classic and am following your procedure. I am using the same converter and PoE injector. I cut the Starlink cable and wired it to the "B" standard. I verified my connection by installing an Cat5e jack (also to "B") on the router side of the cable and restored my connection. I have verified that I have 48 volts with the correct polarity at the PoE power terminal. What I'm not sure of is the jumper configuration. It was difficult to see in the video. I setup what I thought I was hearing but when I power up and wait for several minutes my Starlink app says that it is disconnected. I can only think my jumper setup is wrong. Can you show a picture of the proper jumper configuration? Thanks so much and I look forward to future videos!

I've had Starlink for over 3 months and traveled in Montana, Idaho, Utah , Nevada and Arizona full time RV. The slowest speed I have seen is 30 Mbps and fastest is 260Mbps. Starlink has been a game changer and a lifesaver. Totally worth it. In the last 3 months there has been hundreds of sattelites added to the constellation and it will only get better.

I'm curious if the pepwave will act as a cell phone signal booster or does it only provide a wifi signal to the cell phone signal provided by the SIM card? Does that make sense? In other words, will it make my cell phone work better in my airstream without having a SIM card / cellular data plan activated on the Pepwave itself.

If your cell phone is capable cellular connection over WiFi (most smart phones are, but you need to check with your carrier) it will enhance your coverage by being able to use whatever data connection is being used by the peplink. Just know that you have to change the registered e911 address in your phone whenever you do that. Some jurisdictions have severe penalties for incorrect usage of e911 calls and it does you no good to have your emergency cellular call routed to someplace you are not.

No. It would seem that one of the cell carriers has inked out an agreement with Starlink where they may use it as a backup in the future, but to my knowledge, there are no common carrier phones with satellite (Starlink) to make voice calls as of right now. Starlink is data only.

@@elimlife5980 Sorry, I'm still not clearly asking my question. Will the 42G antenna connected to the Peplink act as a cell signal booster inside the trailer. In other words if I had an iPhone without wifi turned on will the cell signal be boosted on the inside of the trailer? Again, I believe the answer is NO but just checking.

Ahh, I see. No it won't. The antenna simply terminates in an SMA connector on the back of the Peplink. The Peplink has it's own cellular modem which needs the antenna. You could, if you wanted to, disconnect the antenna from the Peplink and connect it to a cell booster to get that functionality, but then you lose the data-over-cellular in the Peplink. If you are not using the Peplink cellular data at all, I don't see why you couldn't do that, but you will need a cellular boosting device to connect to the antenna. I think the only thing you would gain by that is having a slightly better antenna outside the Airstream. If it were me, my first choice would be to use cellular-over-WiFi through the Peplink data, and the second choice would be to get a better antenna mounted on a pole (better height and more directionality for a better signal.)

I have a pepwave max transit router which is what I installed for two years before I got starlink. I am in the process of doing a permanent installation of starlink and integrating it with our pepwave router. Most of the time starlink is our primary connection but sometimes trees prevent a good connection to the satellites. I have had starlink for 4 months and have used it from 12 states and Ontario canada, it has worked great so far. Love the videos. Larry

I have been using starlink since may, while traveling to Ontario canada out to Colorado and back to Florida. It worked in all sites except two because of tree coverage in Michigan and Missouri. I purchased all the parts for this kind of permanent starlink installation but have not done it yet, I wanted to make sure I was going to keep the starlink before I cut the cable. I'd like a video on HOW to use Starlink. Where do you load streaming services? How do you send/receive emails? etc . . .

Starlink is just another ISP (Internet Service Provider). All it does is give you connectivity to the Internet. All of those services (streaming, email, web browsing, etc..) are the same services you would use with a normal provider like a DSL or Cable company (or even cellular hot spot) use. Once it's connected, it acts just like all the rest (Except for other satellite services like Hughes net, or excede. It's way better than those - faster and much less delay)

Another question, why did you cut the cord? The holes you made were plenty big enough to slip the dishy-end Starlink connector through and all the extra cable could stow in the box you installed your connector in. My Starlink cable runs behind my van's B pillar trim to a hole in my roof originally put there for a light bar. No problem passing the proprietary Starlink connector through the hole or the cable gland. Then I ran the cable to the back of the van and have it stowed and a Pelican type case using a M25 size watertight cable gland to get the cable into the case. When I put the dish up, I take the cable out of the hard case and connect it to the dish and I'm ready to go. I have a Starlink pivot mount bolted to my roof rack but I still have the X base for ground deployment. In my case, there is no break, no added vulnerability, in the Starlink cable and the hole in the roof is no different, and no more vulnerable to water leakage, than a solar panel, WeBoost, or WiFi Ranger connection. The downside to my installation is that it's more or less permanent as removing the cable would be rather involved. But why would I want to remove it? If I want to use the dish at the house, and I don't but if I did, I simply buy another 75 ft cable for the house.

When the Starlink is being used on the road with this Airstream, I do not use the Starlink router. (It requires 120VAC and running the inverter 24/7 while boon docking isn't acceptable for us.) I use a small 12V to 48V DC-DC converter and a POE injector to directly power Dishy and the Airstreams Peplink router provides the wiFi/Routing functions. It cuts power usage in half. The cable must be cut and a standard T568B connector used to connect to the rest of the system. I also have an additional 75' Starlink cable that packs with it (and I do carry the router) so that I can still use the Starlink when away from the Airstream.

Why do you need cell service at all when Starlink is running? I just returned from a 3 week trip to Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota plus 7 drive through states. My van has ATT and I have 2 phones, one Mint (t-mobile) and the other is verizon. There were locations where I had no cell signal from my providers and the van's ATT wifi was also unavailable but, I could still make calls, check email, send texts, and surf the web on my phones because I connected to Starlink wifi.

Just like there are areas where you get Starlink and no cell service, there are also areas where you get cell service but no Starlink. If we are traveling on the road and stop to make lunch or to rest, I don't want to have to set the Starlink service up so the cell service is nice there. I also recently stayed at a campground where Starlink was not an option due to the site being nestled in a grove of tall trees. Cell service was all I could use there. The key for us is to always have service so that I can run my business.

Want to do a similar install into my Airstream, but am a little leery of wiring the RJ45 5e connectors. When assembling the connectors on either side of the L-Com piece, do you wire each connector the same, or do you reverse the second one so that the same colors line up. Hope you understand my question, and thanks.

The connectors are always made the same for a given standard. For the T568B standard, the order of colors will be white/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue, green, white/brown, brown. Insert them into the back of the connector oriented so the clip side is down. Good luck and thanks for watching!

I would recommend doing it with a Ethernet smartplug instead. The wire would come out where your current coaxial cable ports are located.

I actually considered that. Is the smartplug actually a shielded ethernet connector? When I look at pictures, all I could see was a plastic housing where the ethernet plugs in. the shielding is critical for the lightning/ESD protection. While I used the connectors I already had, if you are buying them new, you are looking at about the same cost unless you use the lower priced connectors off of Amazon. You would have considerably more cable laying on the ground if you also use the flagpole method of mounting the dish. Those two issues kept me from using the SmartPlug. (tripping hazard and unsure of the shielding). It helped that in our Airstream, everything was right up in front so entering with the power cables was easy and meant less internal cabling.

The shielding is fine and I put the cable on a spool on top of the propane tanks. I use a cyberpower surge protector to power the router and minimize potential damage. The cable goes from the side of the rig to the front without touching the ground.

@@elimlife5980 I have routed the 75-foot cable from under my front couch through the original battery-cable route (I too moved batteries from box in front) and into battery box. I coiled the cable in the box. To use it, I can access cord (with original Starlink plugs) and wrap it around a 20-ft flagpole to a pole mount or to the three-legged tripod. Won’t need the L-com connector. Thanks.

Starlink sells a hard case for less money

Actually, this is one of those things that you have to watch on Amazon. After I published the video, the seller raised the price by $160 (for a total of over $350). B&H Photo sells the case for a current price of $239 which is actually less expensive than the Starlink Case. In addition, the SKS case is considerably more durable than Starlink's case as well as being non-descriptive of it's contents. If I were checking the case on an airline or otherwise shipping it, I'd feel a lot better about the SKS than the Starlink.
