I have AL PSI practical exam coming up, and I heard that the test has been updated to a shorter version We don’t need to do the polishing part after a manicure, and also we don’t have a blood exposure part anymore on the 2024 updated test. Good Morning - Our videos cover the NIC state board standards which AL used to use proctored by PSI. However, it does appear they have changed things up a bit and no longer follow the NIC standards. According to the AL Practical Exam they allow 25 min. for the manicure. See the time breakdown below. I'm not sure how you would be able to perform and polish the nails in a 10 min. time frame. I put the AL link below. I'll look into this further and post what I find out. Setup - 10 min. Manicure-10 Min. Clean up 5 min. candidate.psiexams.com/bulletin/display_bulletin.jsp?ro=yes&actionname=83&bulletinid=1318&bulletinurl=.pdf I also do not see a specific First Aid/Blood Exposure skill demo. However, I would recommend you still pack a First Aid kit to show that you are prepared. But it doesn't appear that you are expected to perform this skill as it's own skill demo. Only if an incident occurs, then you would need to follow protocols for blood exposure.

Where do I get those brown bags like that?
@CosmoReady
@CosmoReady 5 ай бұрын
That's a really good question. I usually tell my students to go to stores that use paper bags, but I know there are many stores that don't supply bags anymore. If that's the case, you can use large gift bags or reusable bags with a laminated or shiny finish that would help them stand up. You'll want to use a large piece of paper to label them so that any advertising or writing on the bag is covered.

Are sponges and a “sink” no longer needed? New Hampshire
@CosmoReady
@CosmoReady Жыл бұрын
Correct - Water is not accessible at your state board exam. However, you could bring a bowl and a bottle of water to your exam. There will be no place to dump the excess water out, so you will have to place a towel in the bowl to absorb any excess water, then place the towel and bowl in the appropriate bags when done. I would also avoid remoistening the sponges in your clean water bowl, so you may want to use cotton rounds and discard them after each pass. Remembering to sanitize after you place items in the trash. It can be a bit tedious. This is an old version of the exam. New Hampshire uses DL Roope and you'll be performing the Basic Facial. Here is the link to our Basic Facial video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aITGg4qJpbKNaqc Best of luck at your exam!

Can you wear 2 gloves and still be in compliance with infection control policies?
@CosmoReady
@CosmoReady Жыл бұрын
Sure, two gloves would be acceptable. However, you only need one glove on the hand that is in contact with the disinfectant wipe. Remember the theory of decontamination and disinfectants are chemicals and are not safe for contact with the skin. Also, putting on gloves at state boards can be a challenge when you are nervous (sweaty palms), so if you only need one glove for a skill it's less stressful. For boards, I tell my students one glove to disinfecting, two gloves when touching the client. Hope this helps.

I noticed you sanitize your hands between every step. Is that because you're touching the trash? Great question. Any time you move away from your client and return, you should be sanitizing. Even if you are dropping something into the trash you should be sanitizing before touching your supplies and/or client. @CosmoReady Жыл бұрын
Yes, the removal of sculptured nail has been added to the NIC®exams. While we don't have a video for this skill demonstration, here are the basic steps you can follow. We will work to have this skill demonstration added in Jan. Removal of Sculptured Nail (20 Min.) 1. Sanitize hands 1. File extension to rough up acrylic. This allows for better soaking off. 3. Apply acetone to cotton pad. 4. Place cotton pad on nail and wrap with foil or other tool to hold cotton in place. 5. Wait 5-10 min. for acetone to dissolve acrylic. 6. Use orangewood stick to remove acrylic (push toward the free edge) 7. File and buff nail smooth. 8. Apply alcohol to cotton pad - Cleanse nail and remove debris from surrounding nails. 9, Apply oil to Q-tip and so you can hydrate the nail and surrounding skin. 10, Sanitize hands *Sanitize at the beginning and end of your demonstration as well as any time you place items in trash.

Why wouldn’t the makeup go in items to be disinfected ?
@CosmoReady
@CosmoReady 2 жыл бұрын
Great Question - This is one of those instances where the NIC testing standards require all makeup to be disposed of in the trash. This standard has been mentioned at state board information sessions for quite a few years. This relates to the "No single use items allowed at state board." However, when it comes to makeup, it's pretty much all single use items because you are applying product directly from the original container- So with that thought, the makeup should be placed into the trash. While it might not seem logical to us, it's not worth losing safety and sanitation points for not doing it. You can always pull them out of your trash bag after you've left the exam. Hope this helps and Good Luck at your exam.

@@Riches2Rural You're in luck!! I just checked and Idaho is the same as our current Cosmetology Client 1 & 2 demo videos. The only difference is now you must use disinfectant wipes. If you need a kit, we also sell state board kits. You can find out more at www.cosmoready.com.

@@CosmoReady WOW! Awesome!! Thank you. Funny you mention the kit, I recently bought all the supplies for the kit and just started putting it together. Do you have a video that goes over the kit?

@Riches2 Rural At this time I do not have a video for packing kits, but that's a great idea. I have a few other projects going right now, but I could probably have a video online by the end of May. Please reach out to me via our Contact Page: cosmoready.hairpronetwork.com/contact-us

This is not the new procedure

Hello Andrea! Thank you for your comment. This is still the Blood Exposure Procedure for some states. If you are in a state that is using the new NIC exam, you will perform this on your index finger. This is the same procedure as the Barber and Cosmetology candidates, except the examiner will be watching you individually for 5 min. You can view this at the following link kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIa5c5aboZqaqdE
