Yeah, I was a little shocked when I first found out about Kant's weird justifications of Slavery and discrimination. I don't think it means we have to throw out everything he's talked about, but I do think more people should be aware of it to better contextualize Kant's philosophy to better acknowledge its possible limits. Unironically, thanks for taking the time to look into it yourself. You've done better than a majority of the salty Kant stans that still leave comments in my videos

Thank you for this very comprehensive guide. Your mellow voice perfectly complements the melancholy feeling of the series. I have discovered the Moomin universe last month in Oulu airport when I visited Finland for the first time. I proceeded to spent a lot of money on Moomin merch for my daughter and also tried to find there the books in English but was not successful. We have been watching all the Moomin episodes that we could find on youtube ever since. I grew up in Romania and as far as I know, we never had anything related to the Moomins here.

That's an absolutely fair question! I scripted and filmed the entire Rag's sequence when I was working on this video, but in my hubris of producing this monster, I forgot to edit the segment. I've been toying around with releasing it by itself as a little bonus video, but I'm not sure if there were enough people clamoring for my piping hot takes about 2012's Rags.

I saw the "Fuzzy Felt" Mumins as a kid. My first episode was the one where the Groke chases Mumin into the house and brings the winter to the summerly garden. I was so in fear AND loved the story so much. It's what Astrid Lindgren also does in her books: Nodd, if a kid says, the world can be very scary: It is. And you will be allright, my love.

A lot of fans have told me how the Groke acted as an entry point for the Moomins as well, maybe there's something about a spooky ice creature that get's people attached to these trolls.

This was a wonderful video and extremely educational. I just finished Werther and did not enjoy it too much for the reason that it dragged on for way to long and Werther soliloquizes too much nonsense. I read it as a prerequisite to Frankenstein and was sorely disappointed by its quality but now having been enlightened to its history and influence I have become much more satisfied in endeavoring to finish this difficult read. Thank you Henry for legitimizing my decision to embark on this terribly niche journey. BTW your name reminds me of Prince Henry. The brother, right hand man and best general of Frederick the Great
@HenryKathman
@HenryKathman 23 күн бұрын
Thank you! I agree that Werther was a bit of a difficult read despite being such a short book. That's partially why I wanted to make this video. That said, I do think there is value in sticking with it even if it's not to your taste and I wish you best of luck in your reading!

Great video! A central point of the Infinity Train is that it isn't about setting a universal moral system, or even helping people become their best self, it is about (in one-one's words) "solving problems". First, it's ideological rather than action or consequence based. Numbers are shown changing as people talk or think about things, even before they've acted on any decision, or set off any side effects. Second, it's specific. A person can reach zero about the problem that brought them to the train, but still not be morally ideal, and still have other problems (as seen with Jesse).

A lot of people say that Centaurworld's issue is it's too lighthearted and kid-friendly at times, and dark at others. And they're wrong. It's an odd choice to jump between bright and happy, and then... *The Elk.* But it wasn't what was wrong. Honestly, what was wrong with Centaurworld for me was that some moments were just... Slow? And a bit boring? And a lot of the jokes just didn't land? The story was amazing, and the characters were cute, but character personalities changed that often that I really couldn't get too invested. In episode one, Wammawink was the smart and safe one. Lighthearted, but deadly serious where safety was concerned. But later on she became as goofy and unserious about everything as anyone else. And they made her just neglectful and spiteful to Glendale all of a sudden? Stabby's personality suddenly changed completely when his body changed. And Rider. Caring, trusting Rider, who cares so much about her horse. Basically laughed in her horse's face when the horse said "Hey, trust *me*, not the man you met last week." And then outright insulted Horse, and marched with the guy Horse said not to trust with no suspicion. Season One was so... Episodic? Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it introduced many characters, and we had a few character development moments. But then it bombared us with four songs per episode, and maybe about one song every two episodes actually landed. Then there was season two, which if I'm honest, was just bad for the most part imo? Like- We got development and backstory episodes for Glendale, Derpleton, Ched, Zulius, and Stabby. But then each of those characters remained as a one-note joke characters. Oh, and the Backstory Magic was so obviously a deus ex machina that the show pulled out of nowhere, just with intent to use it to give us Nowhere King backstory. And *DO NOT* get me started on the Twitter birds. I get that they were a dig at the toxic, annoying fans a lot of media gets, but... Why didn't it have any representation of the supportive and genuine fans? It just made it sound like that's what the show sees all it's fans as, which kinda sucked. And remember, they weren't basing those birds' season 1 finale criticism off of actual criticism fans gave. Season 2 was written before Season 1 ended. And then, there's the issue of time. This is mu biggest issue. I liked a lot of the gags and bits the show had. I liked the character moments even if they felt irrelevant. But I spent a lot of the series, especially the second season, going "...does the show really have time for this??" They got in the Nowhere King's mind and spent a year and a half on a fart joke before even introducing the Elk. They had a whole song about throwing the enemies in a hole and burying them alive because it was more morally okay than killing them. All of Season 2's episodes were based around them building an army that never got used on Centaurworld's side, and rallying the humans on the Human world side to come join the fight in Centaurworld, which they didn't do. Even the s2e7 hootenanny ended up only relevant because it brought The Woman over. Season 2 had 8 episodes, and maybe three advanced the plot. Centaurworld feels like they had a world, and an antagonist, and nothing else worked out, Then they made the show as is.

I grew up with the moomins anime back in the 90s and it always kinda felt a bit secretive, you know? No-one talked about it. There was no merch, no references. Just this quite little show that only I knew about. So seeing this obscure little franchise suddenly burst into popularity all over the internet is honestly pretty delightful. Along with finding out that everyone shared my opinions on Snufkin.

i think you're just missing the fundamental purpose of the show. it was never meant to be a life-changing critique of the current system or of police in general, its literally just a sitcom. so many of the examples you used are one-off jokes or cold opens, which you acknowledged in the video. i can see how those moments being played for laughs could upset some people, but when the primary focus is comedy, the writers shouldn't really have to worry about that kind of thing. being a cop show, it's extremely important that the show tries to address the issues brought up in this video, especially around the time that it was airing. but i think those more serious episodes may have misled some people into thinking that the show was trying to be more than it was, if that makes sense. with the controversy of police in general, i think the show would have still received hate if it didn't address these issues, and clearly the writers thought that they were important enough to make episodes about. but that doesn't mean that the core concept of the show ever changed. brooklyn 99 has always been about exploring the characters in the main cast, and showing the bonds that they've built throughout the entire show, while being hilarious at the same time. some of the episodes that fans loved most are more emotional character moments, or episodes that encompass the whole theme of a found family. so a lot of people might really disagree, but i think its a little bit unfair to expect more from the show. despite technically being a cop show, all this show really ever was is a sitcom. the job of a sitcom is to entertain people, and to make them laugh. i think this show did very well with that, even going beyond that and building these great characters that the audience can really relate to and love. i think that's what the creator of this show was trying to accomplish. the whole idea of a serious, inspirational cop show that points out flaws in the system and changes people's views would probably be an amazing show that moves a lot of people. but you just have to acknowledge that that show is not brooklyn 99. brooklyn 99 is something completely different, so i think its unfair to criticize this show so much for just fundamentally not being what you think it is, or want it to be.

Fenomenalny film. Szkoda że nie ma tu jakiś europejskich adaptacji telewizyjnych ale szczerze wątpię by ktoś w ogóle przetłumaczył niemiecki cykl Sechs auf einen Streich na angielski. Od 2008 roku niemiecka telewizja publiczna kręci 1-godzinne adaptacje baśni braci Grimm i obecnie mamy ok. 50 odcinków, gdzie każdy to ekranizacja innej baśni.
