I'm in love with the game, i wish it was longer but i am satisfied with what they delivered. The colors and music flow so well together. Great video. I love when you deep dive into moomin :)

I love that one of the Snufkin game's central theme is ACAB. Fits perfectly with the character and world.

No it doesn't. He committed crime specifically so the cop could keep his job and stay in the valley.

I've played the game without having any first proper contact to the source material and that made me want to the read the whole series the instant i finished the game!

Highly recommended! Contrary to what some would say, I recommend reading them in chronological order, starting with moomin and the great flood

For the record, skeumorphism is a concept in intuitive design, so using it here is pretty much at best technically correct, like picking a foreign word in the dictionary and using the wrong literal meaning. The PS VIta launch game Tearaway would exactly be in the realm of skeumorphism, because it's functionally a simulation OF the material. Also a big factor would be that it CAN'T do things the original material can't, like animations on paper. The ink should BE where the ink WILL BE on a piece of paper, that's skeumorphic. I concur that this game is sorta skeumorphic in the sense that it's like playing with paper dolls most of the time. Move from A to B and what you get is what you get, not particulalry gameified mechanics. I can't believe it's been 10 years since Steamworld Heist. Another Swedish game with a single band making the soundtrack.

Funny how Valkyria Chronicles is right in between Melody of Moominvalley and Steamworld Heist. It's got that painting-like filter...?

This was a quite interresting analysis of the game and Tove's work. Thanks a lot.

So to answer your question as to whether or not this game is an adequate introduction to Tove’s work and the Moomins, let me tell you how my day has gone. When I can’t sleep at night, I watch indie gameplay. Early this morning, CharlieBarley’s stream of the game popped up in my recommended videos. I thought the thumbnail was cute, and even though as an American I’ve seen Moomin before, I’d never really consumed any of the media, so I decided to check it out. What followed has been about 8 hours straight of Moomin immersion. Moomimmersion, if you will. My spouse and I watched the entire gameplay video, the first 6 episodes of the 90s anime, your video from last year, and of course, this video. As a leftist, it was so easy for me to feel incredibly comfortable with the material through Snufkin’s character portrayal. The ACAB message was genuinely unexpected, but a welcome surprise lol. This led me to Google Tove. As a queer woman myself, learning about her life immediately connected me to her work. Although not explicitly mentioned as themes in her work, I found aspects of my identity as a physically disabled and AuDHD person reflected in some characters. For example, the Groke especially left me in tears. Today alone, her work has made me laugh and cry more than any piece of media in recent memory. In fact, before watching that gameplay video this morning, I found myself thinking how I couldn’t name a recent piece of media that had left me feeling legitimately touched and like I was irrevocably changed in some small way. Tove and the Moomin stories touched and changed me today. And I’m incredibly thankful. I’m also thankful to you for your insightful and enlightening videos. Today is a good day. Best wishes. 🖤

Thank you so much for this video (and the other Moomin video). I'm scandinavian and grew up with the Moomins, but I can't say I'm a big as a fan as you are. I love the way you think and talk about Tove's work and life. It has really expanded my own thoughts about them as well. So, great work and thank you again!

An incredibly interesting analysis and the video is super well made! Gread work! As to whether the game is a good introduction to the world of the Moomins, I myself filmed a let's play of the game, and while I can't boast anything near resembling a reasonable sample size, a friend of mine who knew nothing about the Moomins and watched the videos told me that she was slowly but surely falling in love with the world and the characters, so that's something, I guess ;)

Trad Wives aren't extreme right wing. They're just women that want to have a more traditional role in the family. They obviously attract those of a similar mindset, one that often centers on right-wing/conservative ideals. But wanting to be a home maker and a mother while your husband is the breadwinner isn't necessarily right or let wing. Its a lifestyle preference.

There are unfortunately many tradwife circles where unhealthy and antifeminist mindsets are very very prevelent. For example the transformed wife on Twitter has been spewing a lot of nonsense recently, like how you need to submit to your husband and so on. I know the whole tradwife community isn't like this, but it still seems like a slippery slope of accidentaly ending up in conservative ideoligies.
