I've just replaced the foam surrounds on my pair of LX5's with one slight difference. Instead of replacing the surrounds with foam, I've opted to use rubber surrounds. Let me tell you folks, the bass response is way better than before. I put this down to the stiffnes of foam vs rubber. I bought both foam and rubber surrounds off EBay and was able to make a side-by-side comparison before replacement, the rubber surrounds were way more pliable so on they went.

I opened this thing up and when I closed it properly it wouldn’t turn on. The black wire somehow detached and I can’t get it in the right place again.

Congratulations, I also have a damaged Toschiba SA-400, it only received radio stations in mono, the repair was a cold solder. Then I changed all the capacitors because many were leaking and some resistors. It sounded good in the headphones and I returned it. However, when connected to the speakers I discovered that one channel was bad and when the volume was raised it disappeared. I think it's the final I have to open the TH9015P like you did. Question: did you replace the transistors inside or just redone the soldering? Thanks and congratulations again. Paolo

bit disappointing that it uses chip-on-board , I suspect one of them is the memory - it would be interesting to hook up digital analyser to this and see what's happening on the bus.

Annoying thing about these plug and plays is the design.. buttons are on the wrong side. Joystick is on the right and the buttons are on the left, making these very awkward to use.

Good tear down video, even though it took you more than 3 minutes.....🤣🤣🤣🤣 Considering that there is no "exact" replacement for that woofer, installing a new replacement surround is definitely the way to go ( if you or someone else didn't smoke the voice coil) . I always liked the pair I had, especially with the tweeter's ability to bounce its output from the rear off of a wall and add to its output. I am planning to try the butyl rubber surround that Springfield Speaker repair has, its only $3 more (currently) and is almost identical in every dimension and should work fine but never rot.

I have a pair of these I am going to refoam soon, BUT, I see that Springfield Speaker Repair also has a 5" butyl rubber surround that is almost identical, except the roll width is only 9mm VS 10mm for the foam surround ( AND it's only $3 more). I figure it may restrict the excursion a bit, or it may not, but using rubber instead of foam will mean a permanent repair, or definitely won't be doing it again in my lifetime. I was looking at the "Parts Express" replacement, but measuring things out those speakers are actually a bit large and the opening in the housing face comes into contact with the foam roll at least 2MM all the way around, not an exact replacement for sure. I always wondered why the LX5 was the only speaker with the foam surrounds. I have a pair of LX7 speakers and they have the rubber surrounds. The LX8 and LX10 also have rubber surrounds.

If the foam did not fit UNDER the cone, then you used the wrong foam....the cone should not extend under the round like you said as an excuse....

I was going to use the stick and buttons, but after watching your video, I may get a stick that's a little more 'Robust'. I love how they have the board labeled already, makes it that much easier. I'm building a bartop arcade cabinet and I'll be using a Dell 17" VGA LCD monitor.

The Bitfenix fans has a diagram online somewhere for its mounting holes. A few of the holes actually should match up to 140mm fan mounts. It's the most versatile fan out the bunch. Think I made the right choice for using these to have overflow over the edges of the radiator to cool all of it and not just the inside fins. Beside I want to do something different for a change from everyone else.

Just got one of these. Fuses on the discrete amps are blown but headphone jack works. Stereo/Mono switch doesn't seem to work on mine, but that's through the headphones only, not sure yet if the speakers will output stereo until I grab fuses, but so far I can't get the stereo light to indicate on FM. Can't hear any change either when flipping it. One main tuner bulb is blown too and possibly the stereo light itself. Where'd you get your bulbs? - Also, maybe you're aware of this already but the 4ch Adapter switch is for a rear amp unit like the Toshiba SC-410(S). The 410 feeds the front channel signal back in through those "pre-amp"style input outputs on the back of this unit. It also uses the same "TH9015P" discrete amps. JVC and Sansui to name a couple had these rear channel add on "upgrade to quadraphonic" amps as well. The JVC's I know had a speaker selector mode like this.
