Just bought one of these "cheap," had the exact same problem (at least I THINK all that is wrong is the wobbly USB connector). What a poor design! But a great video. Not sure I have the skills and equipment to fix it.

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a soldering hot air station with a forced air pump inside, The difference is the air is generated inside the station, and then forced out with a pump, vs forced out of the handle with pretty much a fan. making this upgrade will change your repairs and your confidence working with all board SMD repairs.

*I just wet sanded mine. I started at 800 grit and worked my way to 4,000 grit. Then I used McGuire's with a power ball polisher drill bit tool. Now it looks much better.*

This was so helpful, the 24-inch cable and the folding made it all work. I was able to nest the entire IDE cable in the hard drive tray, no snipping needed. Thank you!

Bud this is amazing. Is there anyway that you would take on and xbox for a customer? I'm extremely tech dumb the soldering and all that wouldn't be bad but the filing making and flashing is beyond me.

Bought my turbo graphic 16 with two controllers, AV cable, power supply and controller splitter and the person on eBay said it was tested and working, but as soon as it arrived I tested it out and had no power. I couldn’t even believe it. 200$ man… like really dude. lucky for him I like fixing game consoles or else I would be absolutely livid.

I just purchased a crystal Xbox 1.6 and matching controller off eBay for 69 pounds with shipping, which came out to about $80.00 USD. It was listed as broken but fired up just fine after a good cleaning, it has a nice Hitachi DVD drive that works great as well.

I just watched your vid and tried the exact things on a broken xbox, and I can't believe that it is working again! Been playing some Portal and Split second without any issues. The system seems to be very loud and one of the heatsinks gets really hot. Not sure if that was the way it was designed tho, eventhough the games run just fine. Got an other broken system which seems to have the same issue, might be able to fix up that one too! Thanks for the awesome vid mate! (Might want to try to mod one in the future, looking foward to it).

Keep that BIOS chip though because it's rare. Very few official consoles have stock sockets like yours.

I just finished a 2tb crystal xbox with open xenium chip and evox m8 plus 16 BIOS. Brilliant for gaming (have coinops8 for arcade/mame and my games installed). I think I'll be doing this Cerbios 16tb next, this would be a perfect media (movies) solution. Also that 80 pin ribbon, make sure to get the long version people, you'll need the length to connect to everything with the right angles and bends. And thanks this is a good tutorial, you know what you're doing. Am gonna repaste my heatsinks as didn't think to and my xbox was getting a bit warm.

It's nice to see something like that be used so heavily. Just means it served its purpose and the owners enjoyed it thoroughly. An underappreciated console indeed.

Great work, great explanation. I regret selling my AES to this very day. It’s now way too expensive for me to get back into. With that being said I might purchase a boxed console and SD cart one day but unfortunately the games are a no go for me now.

I'm currently trying to fix a 75001 model. I replaced the laser and it works but it will only read and spin if I hold the two sensors down manually. With the top cover on,it does nothing. Also it turns on then off with the cover on unless you press the power button directly in the middle.
