My VRC denied me back in April of 2024. Unfortunately she just sent me the denial letter today after I had to reach out to her supervisor late last week. Now that I have gotten the letter what is my next step?

I'm a 100% permanent and total disabled veteran but currently working with an associate's degree / certification. What would be the likelihood of someone like myself getting approved for reclassifiation in employment?

I did the initial interview with counselor. They sent me an email today and said that I am entitled to 31 but that they won’t pay for school only job placement and resume writing etc. What should I do since it’s like saying no but still not allowing me to pursue my specific goals. This is what was written: Hope you are doing well! It has been determined that you have transferable skills and/or training or experience in a suitable occupation, the same or a similar occupation must be considered prior to exploration of occupations requiring additional training. You are being found entitled to employment services only, not further education. You have been found to have an employment handicap, but with the education and skills you have obtained, we can assist you with finding suitable employment. Another email state for me to undergo a mental health evaluation for ptsd. It says this : You have been found entitled to Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment. However, at this time, you will need to complete the following steps listed below prior to our next meeting. Note that services are yet to be determined pending development of a feasible, appropriate vocational goal that is consistent with your interests, aptitudes and abilities, and can be supported through the current labor market. In order for us to develop your plan there are steps that need to be completed. Please complete the following and follow up with your counselor. They the form for the medical professional and one sections says: The above named veteran has applied for veteran readiness and employment services under Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness and Employment program. For us to assist in providing suitable services, please indicate suitability for competitive employment through education and/or direct placement assistance. Please note how condition will impact or not impact ability to participate in training and employment. What should I do now?

It makes me even more angry and frustrated! I felt that my counselor was playing with my head! Kept confusing me and making me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. Guess I will reapply!

So do you get the backpay as soon as you’re approved for VRE or after completing the VRE approved degree?

Thank you for the video nic! I have a question.. do you think it is okay to reach out to chains at this point? My situation is my vrc is not responding since April. During my second interview regarding my educational plan, there was a misunderstanding. The advisor thought I intended to attend two different schools, but I’m actually allowed to combine transcripts from multiple schools within the same district. (VRC has to send POs to the schools I'm attending) It seemed like she was a bit upset about my situation. We ended our conversation with her advising me to confirm details with my school’s veterans center and to email her if I wanted to receive payment for the summer semester. I followed up with an email the next day and sent a few more email since then, but I’ve only received monthly automated responses about asking if I am using my benefits. I’ve tried calling and even made an appointment with the regional office in Oakland, California, but I haven’t been able to reach anyone. Do you think it is time to reach out to chain?

What if I completed my masters then got approved for VR&E my counselor had me sign the paper work for induction I still had like 8 months left on my gI bill I’m pre job ready status right now do I get back pay ?

Today I had my initial appointment with a VR&E counselor, and although I felt like it *seemed* successful, I’m honestly left with more questions. I apologize for the lengthy texts, it have looked everywhere and can’t seem to find the answer! He asked me just a couple of questions and pretty much immediately told me I was approved. I told him that I’d like to go to nursing school, as with my mental health conditions I feel like the flexibility would be good for me. I have trouble staying at one place for very long and also helping others has always benefited me mentally. Anyway, I have a bachelor’s that I used the entirety of my GI Bill to receive. During the meeting, the counselor told me that I could do the rapid access to employment route and also that I could m receive funds for my GI Bill. He made it sound like I would just… get my GI Bill all over again. He used the term, “chapter 31 retro.” I had never heard of this, and asked him if he meant the whole 36 months with the BAH. He confirmed that that was right. I’ve since done some research, and I’m not sure if my counselor provided me with incorrect info, but from what I understand, retroactive induction only goes back to when you were initially rated. I did my intent to file in December of 2021 and received my rating in June of ‘22. I completed college in December of ‘23. Wouldn’t this mean I’d only receive a semester of retroactive induction benefits? I am 100% P/T if that makes a difference. If there is a way to email you or something too, I will look for that! Your videos have been so incredibly helpful ❤

Hello! My counselor said I need to wait until I am almost done with my bachelors program before they would do the retroactive induction. They said we’d do the paperwork before my last semester. Is that a lie or is that how things are done?

This was beyond triggering and I have issues with ptsd and anxiety. The messed up part is they don’t just do it here they do this with just about every benefit… lol you should’ve mentioned that you’re having to jump through hoops to get what you’re entitled to based off that alone you should be entitled 😂😂

So how would you navigate my scenario? I currently have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, I work as a Robotics and Automation Engineer, I really like my job but it aggrevates my service connected knee condition. I am on my feet all day and have to navigate around machinery. I would like to become an expert witness in my field, this would give me suti le emplyment for my knee condition. Expert witness's in tech fields typically have masters or PHDs along with industry experience. I could add details but trying to keep it short for the comment.

Please help! My tpd discharge literally just happened 9/9, but I'm going to use VR&E for my master's degree. My loans came off my credit report literally yesterday. I watched your other video about holding off on discharging your loans. I thought about it, but thought VR&E will pay for everything, so I won't need loans anymore, right? Then I'm also trying to buy a house so it's better for my debt to income ratio as well. What I didn't think about was what if I need to take out more student loans? Now they won't be discharged. Hmm. Honestly, when I was younger I used some of that money to pay my old mortgage when I needed to. Just surviving, you know. Do you think I'll need student loans again? There's no way to stop the discharge once it's done, right? I think it's too late.

Hi NIc. I just wanted to thank you for all the information and research you provided to our community. I went through all your videos and went to my inital appointment fully prepared. I had 10 pages of notes and information. I had my appointment yesterday. I explained to my VRC why I was entitled. After about 15 minutes the counselor agreed. This VRC was awesome and was there to actually help veterans. I got my confirmation of entitlement today. Took one day. Looks like there are some great VRC's still out there. Thank you again. Keep up that great work!

So I have been through the whole process with the VR&E, and in the end I got an answer that most told be to expect "no". I did everything the VRC asked of me, the paperwork, the business plan, the validity statement from a VBOC person. Projections showed i would have been able to make money. I didn't ask for anything that as off limits, but I did ask for something that maybe as different from what anyone else has asked for. I have an out building on my property, it is to be my shop, I have all the equipment already for the shop that I need, what I didn't have as power, or lights. When I say no power the building isn't even wired, so I was asking for assistance in getting the wiring turned on, not to pay the electric bill. What I was told in exact terms was that if it doesn't accommodate my disability then it is a no. So is this true or not, because I am confused when I hear of a person receiving a mac book or office supplies through VR&E. Any help or information is appreciated.

I need help as the VA doctor kept sending me to a wrong department for my ergonomic package request, I am asking the doctor for a prescribed recommendation letter so I can show to my VRC. However in NYC the doctor(primary care manager) told me not knowing there is such a request(been 30 years in the career). What can I do to get the recommendation letter? Thank you

I got entitled to VR and E but my counselor (coincidently) is not answering my emails, messages, calls for a week now, to process last paperwork for benefits. I feel they are doing this on purpose so i dont get benefits. What should i Do? Should i call and speak to there supervisor?

Nic, thank you for what you do, you're incredible. I've watched and searched through your suggested videos however I still can't find an answer to my questions which are: 1) My denial letter didn't mention anything about reapplying to VRE, can I still reapply? 2) The only options my denial letter presented if I disagreed with the denial were: supplemental claim, higher-level review, and appeal to the board. Can I still reapply? If not, what would be the best course of action to fight back against my denial? (I have new and relevant evidence that would support my supplemental claim - a recently higher SCD rating given after I was denied). Any guidance here would be such a great help!

I’ve been in the program for a long time and I’ve gotten approved for a few nursing schools, but I got dismissed from my last one when I had things going on and then two other schools were just not for me. I got approved for school in San Francisco when I live in LA and it was my dream and originally approved, and they train at the number one paying hospital in the nation and no one got back to me and in fact they denied me. I had to appeal, but by then I had no choice but it taken another school Los Angeles and an area is completely polar opposite of why I worked so hard to become a nurse.it rendered me in a really horrible position and is creating more barriers than I expected. Can I take medical leave and then wait to go to the school in San Francisco that I originally planned for in 10 months? Thank you so much.

I just had my initial appointment. I don't think it went well. He kept fighting two things. SEH and finding employment with the degree I have despite me telling him jobs I'd typically do exasperate my SCDs and no longer have interest. He said even if would get SEH, that would be the offer. He was not trying to offer long term. He offered what he called, limited services or rapid. He went back and forth for 30 min. generally cordial. He finally said he will take a deeper look at everything and let me know in a few days. It seemed like it was the first time he'd seen my file because it all seemed foreign to him. I asked him some pretty deep questions as we went down each bullet point on SEH. I even told him with long term I graduate next Spring. Anyway, I'll hope for the best but it doesn't look promising. I'll reapply after the rejection email.
