Moving to Puerto Rico, is like a New Yorker moving to West Virginia, Alabama, or Colorado, except for the language barrier. Puerto Rico is a mini U.S.A. Move to Metropolitan San Juan and you experience the rat race. Moving to the rural area, is like any small town or city in U.S.A. Move to the mountains, in some places, it's like living in the Appalachian Mountains, except for the wild life (no wolves, bears, rattlesnake, etc.). In the mountain you should be able to speak Spanish and with a twange (very nazal); because that's how our hillbillies speak, and you'll easily stand out, if you are not one of them. Most of these mountain folks, originated from the mountain of Spain, when the Spanish government was giving 5 Acres of land to families, to settle this Island (18th and 19th Centuries). But if you only speak English only, learn Spanish, and they will accept you better. And you won't feel lonely among our super happy people. The best of Puerto Rico, is no hate, no racism, no KKK, limited bigotry, very little homelessness and the people are very well educated and friendly.

Keep it up. So motivating. I'm working on getting out there full time. I have a handyman business, and I hear there are benefits to bringing a business to the island. Have a great day.

Gringos here. 20 years ago, we lived in Mayaguez for a couple years, but moved back stateside to facilitate an adoption. Im retiring early (52 years old) the end of 2024, selling our Texas home and moving to the Humacao area. Not rich by a long shot. Have just enough money to enjoy our last 20 years or so on the island we love. Will live in a typical PR neighborhood, drive a typical PR car, and have a typical PR "Salary" thru our investments stateside. Saddens me about the "Gringo go Home" movement viewing gringos as tax evaders or gentrification. We never complained about Puerto Ricans moving stateside to make more money, and saddened that some puerto ricans feel we shouldnt belong there. Just want to spend our remaining time without driving an hour each way to commute to work, living in a place full of arrogant, selfish, and rude people. We loved PR when we lived there before, and with all our heart hope it hasnt changed so much, that we cant love it again. You have a beautiful family. Hope we can maybe toss a couple lines in the water together sometime. Cheers !

My parents moved back to Rincón in 1977. I moved from Puerto Rico in 1984 because of the way maintaining a job interfered with my integrity. I’m retired now and considered moving back, but when my wife and I start talking with family about living conditions and what the government does about it, my itch to move back goes away.

I like this video and respect your entrepreneurship. I don't understand why people say "you want to evade taxes"? I think they are jealous, you have a business and yes there are write off but you also have to pay taxes for yourself and employees. I also don't get it when your own kind thinks you're trying to take advantage of the people in Puerto Rico?? You have a contracting business & if you give competitive prices with good work then what's the problem. People have choices so nobody is taking advantage. Again, its jealousy.

It’s amazing how you went back to your island with an idea in mind to make things better for you and your family. I congratulate you on having your own business. It’s SO much harder and so much more work when you have your own business as opposed to working hard and long hours for someone else. Yet, much more rewarding. Especially, when you’re doing the right thing. I love that God’s plan is ALWAYS better than mine. Anyone who has faith understands that. I’m a 60 year young woman and loving what you’re doing. When you (homeowner) don’t have a lot of money to spend on a full house remodel a renovation is still good. As long as the renovation is getting the most important things done (electrical, plumbing, roofing, etc) and sprucing up other parts of the house it’s ok. If this house didn’t need those things (major things) this came out nice. @Back to the Island, your channel came up on my feed yesterday. I watched several of your videos and was able to catch up on most of your videos. I love the work you do. I see you’ve changed your work crew from when you began. I have a question about the entry doors on houses in puerto rico. I noticed that the doors are mounted with the hinges to the outside which makes it easy to brake in by popping out the bolt that goes through the hinge. My aunt came from puerto rico to nyc to visit and her house was robbed because they popped the hinges off and took the door as well . All doors here in the US open inward.

Oye Chico! Muy buen trabajo! Inspiring before and after. We’re here for 6 months and have fallen in love with the island and the kind folks we’ve met. You are living our dream. We are considering moving here but there are so many choices! All I want is una haciendita con árboles frutales, a few chickens and my life would be complete 😄 we’ve already found a great church which is top of the ‘must have’s’ list.
