+ Tenebrae factae sunt super universam terram dum crucifixerunt Jesum Judaei. Et circa horam nonam exclamavit Jesus voce magna: Deus, Deus quid me dereliquisti? Et inclinato capite emisit spiritum. Ecce terraemotus factus est magnus. Nam velum templi scissum est, et omnis terra tremuit. Et inclinato capite emisit spiritum.

@rozwellc You are correct, rozwellc. In general, I took the 5- and 7-tuplets to be embroidery, and therefore effectively emphasized by some freedom of pacing. Of course, that's just my take on it, and was not based on any particularly sophisticated or historically-informed line of reasoning.

This is a really amazing recording. My sax teacher want me to play this for solo and ensemble in February. And I have only been playing for a year and a half do you have any suggestions

@richardmatchett I always found the Rascher mouthpieces very accommodating when I wanted a well-controlled sound, though they did have their limitations in terms of ability to produce greater volume. If I recall, I was using a Rascher mouthpiece for the recording of the Jacobi sonata that I have posted here on KZbin. Give it a listen, compare it to this and make your own judgement. In the end, of course, it's all about what feels best for you. Again, all the best in your endeavors!

Fun bit of trivia: the text is very closely modeled on one of the oldest surviving texts in an ancient form of the Irish language (c. 8th century CE)

@kapariz44 Thanks so much! It is a tricky, but intensely satisfying little piece :)

Very nice. Initially it gives the impression of being a catchy little tune, but one is quickly disabused of that by the complex rhythms and syncopations that follow. Plenty of banana skins for the under-rehearsed singer. Good diction in this performance, esp. with the r's.

@richardmatchett Thanks so much, and best of luck with your audition! My two basic tips on this one are: 1. Practice the long scalar passages at a very slow tempo at first, then slowly approach your desired speed 2. Be very aware of the "conversation" between yourself and the piano/orchestra; a great deal of what Glazounov creates in this work is as much a collaboration between the two voices as a solo "feature."

How did you record this? What kind of microphone do you use? This is one of the best reordings I heard here on youtube! I'm 14 now and I practice for this masterpiece. Thanks, you helped me very much!

First of all, thanks so much for the kind words; I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm assuming you're referring to the (third?) selection from Ravel's Miroirs; if so, I think there is a definite affintiy between the two lustrous piano parts.

Some parts of the piano part remind me of "Une Barque sur la Ocean." Maybe that's it what makes this song so beautiful? Or is it your wonderful voice? ;)
