As a 2 hander, biggest thing i see a lot of 2 handers not doing that lowers their revs is turning their torso enough. Ideally you wanna be looking over your left shoulder (right for lefties) when your ball is at the back of your swing, and returning to center through release. Most of the 2 handed power comes from the knees and the torso rotation

This is just a great video. Sometimes you can get paralysis by analysis. This is especially true when you are struggling. I have battled this on multiple occasions. Slowing down and quieting the mind always fixes it for me. I always tell people that bowling will humble you no matter how good you are at it. That is also one of the reasons I personally love it. It is challenging.

I had to change from a plastic ball that goes dead straight when shooting spares to a weaker resin reactive with a little bit of hook. I just could not be successful with a ball that goes dead straight. I worked on it a ton and finally gave up. When I made the change, my spare percentage went up significantly. It especially helped with corner pins. I tend to leave far more corner pins than any other spares. I leave alot of 10 pins and I hated them. I have no problem with them now. Different strokes for different folks.

Speak to left-handed bowlers. 3:30 3:30 3:30
@baldbrothersbowling
@baldbrothersbowling 5 күн бұрын
I am not sure what the 3:30 is referencing above as the 3:30 mark in the video is just me throwing the ball. To address your comment of speaking to left-handers, the first half of the video applies either way as we are talking just about hand positions and how to throw it. The teaching is not different based on hand. The 2nd half I refer to boards, marks, and pins. Most of it you just have to flip, so if I say I am throwing at a 10, it would be a 7 for you. If I say a 6-10, that is a 4-7 for you. As for the boards I line-up and aim at, I said first you have to pick what board you stand on and aim at for a 10 (or in your case a 7). When I say I stand 31 and throw at 17.5, that is just what I do, and is not what I am saying you must do. I drift, I throw it differently, and there are other factors that determine what board you stand on and throw at. The point of the video is not to focus on where I am standing and aiming, but what the moves are. So if you stand 42 and aim at 25 to pick up a corner pin vs. my 31 and 17.5, then you go off of 42 and 25. The move is still the same. I said I move 1-board right if the 6-pin is with the 10. If you stand 42, it still 1 board right. If you are left handed, you just flip it. Pick your start and aiming point for the 7, and then if you leave a 4 pin with the 7, you move 1 left with your feet, same target, and you'll cover the 4-7. So essentially, all you have to do is flip the pins (10 becomes 7, 6-10 is 4-7, 3-6-10 is 2-4-7, etc.), and then when I say 1 right or 2 right, it would be 1 left or 2 left for you. As for the actual starting point and target, you have to play around with where you start and where you aim, and write that down. This becomes the basis for the other spares, whatever it is for you. Ideally, you do want to go across the lane as much as you are comfortable going. I don't know if there is something else you had a question on, but hopefully that helps you convert it in your mind. Let me know if you have a specific question.

Would you say the primal is controllable enough to use on house shots? Thanks
@baldbrothersbowling
@baldbrothersbowling 7 күн бұрын
Every ball is going to react differently for different Bowlers based on speed, Rev rate, tilt, pin position, etc. People will match up differently to different balls. That said, in general, motiv tends to be more controllable for me. In addition, solids are more controllable than pearls (with hybrid in between). The Primal is both Motiv and a solid, so it will be more controllable than most any pearls or hybrids. Plus, if you get one and you feel it is too snappy, put a little surface on it. If it is too round, polish it. It was slightly more snappy than my Venom Shock, but I sanded the Primal and polished the Venom Shock, and now they are opposite. With surface, I find the Primal very smooth and predictable.

I just started bowling this year and had my first PSO drill a ball badly. It caused severe injuries to my hand and wrist. I've been playing since January in pain, throwing underhanded. I'm seeing a surgeon next week. Recently, I went to a different PSO who drilled correctly and told me to throw suitcase release. Wow! It has been way easier, more accurate, and more consistent. I'm left-handed and struggle badly to hit the 10 pin spare, but I can almost always hit the 7 pin. It's just weird. Lol.
@baldbrothersbowling
@baldbrothersbowling 7 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear about that issue with the bad drilling and pain. The suitcase release is the smoothest and easiest to start with. I always start the people I coach who are new with that, and gradually move them into more advanced releases. So definitely keep up the suitcase and get comfortable, and over time, you can start to introduce more advanced technique. As for 10s for a lefty, are you hooking at them or throwing straight? Either way, or just takes practice in finding your spot to stand and throw. With a straight release or a spare ball, you can throw the same place regardless of lane conditions. With a hook, you may have to adjust week by week based on how the lanes are breaking down, but on a house shot, you usually have a little bit of miss room to play with hooking it. Either way, just takes practice. Good luck.
@GrumpaBaggins
@GrumpaBaggins 7 күн бұрын
@baldbrothersbowling I've always thrown at spares underhanded. I have tried suitcase release here lately and am surprised by how much more accurate it is at the spare pins. I still seem to end up in the gutter about 4 to 6 feet before the 10 pin whenever I miss. I am starting to find that if I aim to the left of the 10 pin with suitcase and increase my speed, I have a higher chance of getting to it before the ball tries to hook. Underhanded it goes straight, but I still can end up short.

First off I love your content and it’s been helping me out a lot. I wear this exact brace mainly because I have the weak wrist but also I have pain in my wrist as well.(I’m rt handed too.)…. Sometimes I find myself not getting the proper release I need with it. Granted I’ve used this now for almost 3 years since I was able to get back into bowling in 2021. I’ve gotten a lot better and a lot more consistent with it. Would there be a possible way you could do another video on it explaining more in depth how I can keep my hand at the 45 degree angle more consistently?? Also I was wondering if you could talk about the rotate option on the brace where you lock it in at it rotates left/right. Could you talk more about that as well?? I’ve experimented with this but havnt really found answers to what this is for so I don’t use this option a lot without knowing how it would help.. I notice as you mentioned when I do this I’m a lot more consistent but also noticed my hand position isn’t in this position more times than not and it looks more like a spin than anything. Thanks for the tip about the elbow. I'll have to practise that. BTW, I started using a wrist device a few weeks ago to try to get used to the right position for my wrist on release (cos without the device, I tended to go mainly up the back of the ball). It wasn't quite end over end (the track was just to left of the thumb and ring finger holes), but it tended to roll early.. The device I bought has a setting for lateral adjustment (left or right) and I lock that in to give the ball a little more tilt than I tend to do without the device. But I disovered a few days ago after using my GoPro while bowling on Tuesday, that I have two other problems that need to be addressed first. 1. My swing. In making sure I keep my hand behind the ball through the swing, the ball is not swinging straight back and forward again. Instead, my hand takes the ball a little to my right, which means when it swings back down, it goes a little to be my left. 2. My right foot at release is in the air behind me (instead of being extended to the left). I'm sure that's affecting my balance at release, which could be why, at times, I miss my target at the arrows.
@baldbrothersbowling
@baldbrothersbowling 9 күн бұрын
On the tilt thing, I would recommend practicing some no step and 1-step drills where you focus on that without the brace. One thing that helps me is when you reach the peak of you backswing, think about bringing your knuckles in and brushing your left calf. That can help you get that loaded position you are taking about. 1-step drills can also help to work on your setting plane. As for your trail leg, I lift it also. It isn't behind me but it's out to side, but still in the air. I am currently working on keeping it down for balance but it's not the end of the world. I would focus on the other things first and don't worry about the trail leg until you feel good about the release. I wish you best.

I'm 70 and have played around with those things as I've gotten older. You get the idea in your head as you age that you might need the help. In my case I don't need one. It actually feels more difficult with the brace than without it. Also, ball fit screams at me whenever I put one on. That brings up my only question: If a person was going to start using a wrist brace, should their hand be measured wearing the brace? Nobody talks about ball fit but anytime I've put one on my hand, my fit no longer felt right.

@baldbrothersbowling
@baldbrothersbowling 10 күн бұрын
If you are having wrist pain, it COULD be from trying to curl the ball to keep it from breaking back, which could be a thumb fit issue. If you haven't already, go back and watch my thumb fit video and make sure you are hinging at the base of the thumb, not the knuckle. Then, you also need to make sure you are letting gravity take your arm back and forth. If you do this well and have a snug thumb, the pressure will be more on the thumb and not the wrist. This MIGHT help alleviate the pain. Also, I have arthritis and I do tape my wrist to help prevent inflammation. If you don't tape it, try that also. Let me know how that goes.

Interesting. I got into these videos when I bought a ball (I bowled duckpin as a youngster) and had trouble with my thumb getting stuck. I've pretty much got that straightened out by not cupping but barely bending the wrist. There's been a lot of controversy on other channels which claim that you do NOT have to cup the ball at all but get under it by straightening the angle of your elbow at or near release, versus only stronger folks have the wrist strength. Something to play with. My problem now is that in a mantra I have now not to "pull it", my rotation is a bit difficult to control, and sometimes it goes too straight.
@baldbrothersbowling
@baldbrothersbowling 12 күн бұрын
I should clarify that I really don't cup, I load. I am old school and those terms were a bit more interchangeable, but they are different. With loading, the wrist is a combo of slightly cocked in and slightly cupped. My example was a bit exaggerated. It's a way of getting your fingers both inside the ball and under the equator. With a proper fit and technique, it doesn't require strength, and I didn't really discuss that well here. I am hoping to address this more in future videos. The yoyo goes from loaded to uncoiled more than cupped to uncupped as I stated.

Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate how you set up for, and shoot, each spare. I have a system that works for single pin spares (as long as I hit my target arrow - the 4th, moving my feet left or right for the particular pin), but I wasn't sure what to do for splits. I'll try what you suggested (and also write each of the positions down). BTW, I use my weakest reactive ball (a Raw Hammer hybrid) for spares and keep my wrist flat throughout the swing. It still hooks a little, but for single pin spares, I just need to adjust my feet one board left. Eg, left foot on board 28, aiming through the 4th arrow for pins 1 or 5.
