I disagree that the Owala water bottles are ugly. It's just that for some reason Owala makes lids that don't match the color of the bottle, which does look ugly. Like who wants an orange water bottle with a neon pink and purple lid? But when the whole bottle matches like my 40 oz Shy Marshmallow and Lemon Limeades do, then they look amazing 😍 I wanted the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff Harry Potter colors originally but they only come in 32 oz sizes. I think Owala will be the reigning king for quite some time. They really got alot right with so many color combinations and their locking mechanism. They're the Apple of water bottles currently.

I went shopping on Black Friday at my local mall this year and it was really packed. I live in a large metro area where malls still receive heavy foot traffic. It really depends on where you live now and how much your local mall is relevant. Even in the mid 2010s, my family stopped going Black Friday shopping and talked about how Cyber Monday had better deals when they used to get up early in the am to go shopping in the 2000s. They also said that they stopped because it felt increasingly unsafe. Black Friday has been on a slow decline for years, but online shopping killed whatever was still there nationally in the late 2010s.

The cost of living has changed severely in the last 3 years. 4 years ago gasoline was half of what it is now, and rent was about 30-40% less. Plus, shrink and inflated prices took off also about 3 years ago. It's been a big price gouging party. This needs to get reigned in. We did have laws against price gouging, not sure why they aren't being implemented. Wal Mart rips off the public 365 days a year. It seems like they can afford to take one of those days to give a real Black Friday discount, but they haven't done it in a few years now. If they offered the deals they used to people would show up on Black Friday.

Another big reason for the shift in Black Friday shopping is our lack of technological advancement these days. You mention flat screens and the Nintendo DS… what is equivalent to those things today? There’s no shiny new technology like there was in the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s.

A lot of people are opting out of black Friday and buying presents in general, and it is not because they are not able to afford buying presents. Shopping on black Friday and buying presents in general, is not a priority for more and more people because physical presents end up just being clutter that takes up space in their homes. Instead of shopping for presents, many people are gifting experiences and acts of kindness.

I personally prefer in-person shopping, and all I'm seeing lately is people bashing on online shopping, so it was refreshing to hear a perspective that isn't mine! Appreciate the diversity in thought here!

Black Friday always seemed dystopian to me. I just always thought it was a little gross that everyone would RUSH to spend money we all don't have after a day of family gathering. I had the best childhood and was very spoiled, especially around Christmas time but in the 7th grade, my dad asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I was like "I'm unsure, I think this is supposed to be a time for family" he was shocked, but understood. Now that I'm older, I understand all these "holidays" are put in place to stress us all out and spend money we don't have - it's paganism.

Overconsumption is rammed down our throats 24/7 with social media. People have gone into debt. I honestly feel like people have realized they don’t need it. They’re living pay to paycheck. They’re tired of spending their money on stupid things. They’ve realized needs vs. wants.

I agree. It used to be Memorial day sales, Fourth of July sales, Black Friday sales, and Macy’s 1-day sale would literally be one day. We used to be able to have the chance to save our money for special sales and events. Now we’re being advertised to 24/7-365 and it’s just maddening.

I don't think so. Black Friday sales broke records and reached 10.8 billion dollars this year, but most of the profit came from online purchases.

As someone who worked about a decade of Black Fridays - I think retailers began spreading out their “deals” for the safety of their customers & employees. I could definitely see a shift over the years as the deals started earlier. Black Friday would still be the busiest day, but there was a significant decline in yelling & fist-fighting (at least from my experience). And yes, the “deals” were not that great over time, but the companies know that the consumer will fall for it just because it says “Black Friday Deal”.

I have definetly found better deals before black friday, i bought my tablet at 50% disscount months after it was released from a tec store in my country. The bad thing is that unfortunatelly, mostly, when there's a pretty good discount, the stores keep it for themselves. Can you believe i found an ipad mini 6 for 150 dollars??? I went to buy one just for them to tell me they didnt had any left, that a guy bougth the last one. And surprise!, the guy who got them worked there, he took 3 of them, then i asked for the display one and even that one was sold to the worker. When i asked they told me that he didn't worked there while he was showing some products to a client and his face was plastered on the employee of the month board.... Shame on them

Here to say I HATE online shopping, and a big part of that disdain is the part I know it played in Black Friday’s downfall. Ask me any time before 2020 what my favorite holiday was and I would tell you Black Friday. I will be going to Target until I take my last breath or the very last one shuts down. I LIVED for Black Friday, I LIVED for the rush, for almost being trampled, I LIVED for waiting in the rain at 4am. It was my favorite day of the entire year. And I’ve noticed it slowing down year after year since about 2018. I will never understand the appeal of Cyber Monday or online shopping in general, sure it’s fine for old people who can’t get out, or people with no time, but it has no business overtaking a day as classic and sacred as Black Friday. I will be outside Target at 4am again this year, then to Best Buy, and then the mall, just as I have every year since I was 7 years old, the spirit of Black Friday will never die in me, no matter how much it slows down around me.

I just get mad because they raise the prices a month or two in advance and then “lower” the prices. It shows they just think we are idiots. And if you download apps like Honey it will tell you when you’re online shopping the last six month pricing trend for the items you’re about to purchase. So you’ll know if it’s actually on sale or not. I also hate that they take their employees away from being with family because they open up earlier and earlier. I’d be fine with Black Friday starting at like 6 am.

I feel like people are overstimulated. You buy now, blackfriday, its sale but that item has been in the shelf for too long meaning thats the least nice item in the bunch of item. There's always better version coming out, so why rush to buy? And sales are available throughout the year. Add that many sale scams are happening.

“Shopping has become a lot more convenient” but not to people with sensory issues that need to feel the fabric and the way the clothes fit before they buy them, or people who have trouble finding clothes that fit. Stores carry less variety in-person because they expect you to shop online. Shopping for clothes has become a hellscape

I'm Canadian so things are a bit different here, but from what I remember, there was so much less international stuff too. More goods were produced domestically, and the sales were on the older, slightly out of date items or surplus stock - then it turned into that terrifying body crush - and now it seems gone

Even last year, when a ps5 was discounted to $350 from the normal $500 at Target, there was no fighting people in the store. The deal went live at midnight, the page stopped working, and every ps5 was likely gone within seconds. There were probably bots buying them up so scalpers could sell them. All the fun is gone, and even actual good deals are ruined :/

I've been doing most of my Black Friday shopping online since I figured out that was possible back in 2008... But I do miss the old days. I used to go to the mall right before closing on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to hide the items I wanted to buy, then run in right at closing, grab stuff from my hiding spot, and be the first one to the register. Those were the days!

I have the hydro flask for travel. Went to Bahamas with it. Packed it with ice. When everyone else was sweating and dying from The heat.,, I had ice cold water for me and my daughter. It’s a pain to carry a heavy water bottle but I have learned my lesson from dehydration due to childhood drama. The ice kept the entire day. I don’t care about the brand. I do care about how long it keeps my water, the price, and that it is BPA free!

Last Black Friday I went to was in 2008 when I was in line at Toy R’ Us and a local news station panned a long shot of cold pissed off parents waiting in line for the doors to open. Once inside I watched two ladies fights over the last Furby, I quickly left and decided to never willingly torture myself again.

If you didn’t need it not a great deal. The only time I went to Black Friday event I wound up getting a great deal on the camera but got caught up and spent way more than I saved. It would have made more sense to sleep in and pay full price for camera. I’m way over the shopping frenzy. About once a year I blow my resolve and impulse buy something, often returning it. I’ll hold onto what little I have and then when everyone is whining about high prices it just doesn’t matter as much. The periodic inflation that hits every few years doesn’t affect my budget that much, but then I’m not buying food for a family anymore. It feels much better to pick up a few extra items in grocery store and put in my food bank bag until it’s full and I drop off at a local church food bank. Or randomly hand out $10 bill to stranger standing at intersection. I don’t care why they are panhandling or what they spend it on; I figure I’m obviously in better shape than they are..my 20 year old minivan is full of gas and I’m headed back to my peaceful alcohol and drug free AC home. Life’s been hard at times and I’ve most definitely made some stupid decisions so I strive not to judge others.
