My CZ 457 MTR is consistently good at 50 and 200, but 100 is my nemesis. I don’t know what it is, but I have a much harder time getting consistent sub MOA at that distance. However, 200, no problem. Thank you for this interesting video and I understand your disappointment. But, please, keep in mind that: - the Eley Tenex is optimized for 50 meters ISSF competitions. So performance at 100 meters is NOT warranted at all. For more details, there is a few key books on rimfire rifles and .22 LR ballistics - Eley Tenex only perform in match grade heavy barrels. Does the T1x have one? - ISSF competitors do not only use Eley Tenex, they select the best batches for their own rifle and then, they buy the whole batch! The performance difference is very impressive, but this is not cheap.....
@thegunviking
@thegunviking 3 күн бұрын
Hi! No, the Tikka T1X comes with a factory barrel, not a match barrel. So technically, it's a sporter. You can't really expect much more than this. And as you mentioned, a lot, maybe most, match ammo is optimized for 50 meters. I've been on the lookout for a reasonably priced used match rifle (KZbin doesn't even cover the ammo costs...), but as a left-handed shooter, there isn’t much to choose from. Still, it produces pretty good groups for being a relatively affordable rifle.

ES can be quite high due to just one or two shots. If you have an unusually high or low velocity on one shot in a series of one hundred shots, the ES will be very high even if the other ninety-nine shots have exactly the same velocity. SD is a measure of how much each individual shot deviates from the average. Hope that explanation makes sense

I've started rim thickness gauging even my premium ammo. Even the best Eley and Lapua/SK can have a difference of .0010" which may not seem very much, but if one were talking about seating a bullet when reloading centerfire ammo, that could make a lot of difference in accuracy. I just get tired of making a nice 3 or 4 shot group, then getting a flyer that just comes out of nowhere! And, the fact being what it is, rim gauging is really the ONLY control one has over rimfire ammo. So, if that is the only "fix" I can do (other than weighing each round) I'll go ahead and do it...

Yes, they are FFP scopes. I’ve ended up going with Meopta because I think these scopes offer the best value for the money. Clear and good optics, reliable click adjustments, and a solid warranty. I now have four of them on different rifles. I started the channel with a Zeiss Conquest, and it was decent enough, but you know how it is-new gear is always fun 😊. And for longer ranges, 200+ yards, it didn’t have enough adjustment. The Dichrotech look interesting. Mine are all standard illuminated. Is it really that cold in Texas? I thought it was warmer there. The first thing I’m going to build when I win the lottery is an indoor long-range shooting range!

@@thegunviking I don't have a FFP Meopta, yet. I made two purchases of different optics makers that unfortunately are disappointing if I sell them a new Meopta would be in order. The Dichrotech reticles are interesting in bright sun they are red I haven't really shot much against a dark background or lower light situations where they change to a bluish tint. The red does stand out very well. The only other quality scope I have to compare them to is a German made Schmidt Bender Varmint model 4-16 x 50 and they are equal to it as far as clarity goes. The Varmint model doesn't have much elevation in the turrets it has a holdover style reticle it's not intended to do much dialing once zeroed. I recently bought one of the Arken models surprisingly it has pretty good lenses and the dials do what they are supposed to do. Bright sun kind of washes it out though I haven't used it much since mounting I didn't have the sunshade on it at first. Yes, it's been a cold week for this area. I am south of San Antonio towards the Mexico border north of here has had snow and icing and quite a bit in the northeastern areas towards Dallas we do have snow here but it's kind of rare. Tomorrow morning the low is supposed to be in the high 20's. It will be warming up to the 50's though almost back to normal. We almost hit 80 F a few days before this system.

@@perdidocamaronero5400 Strong sunlight isn’t something we deal with much where I live 😆. But in the winter, the combination of snow and sun can be very intense. I’ve used a lot of German optics, and honestly, they’re the best on the market. Although, now that I think about it, Kahles and Swarovski from Austria might actually be even better. I’ve had, or still have, optics from most of them. But again, for the price you pay, it’s hard to beat Meopta in terms of quality. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Arken. They’re available here, but you can buy a used Meopta for the price of a new Arken. Which scopes did you buy that weren’t good?

@@thegunviking Burris XTR II 4-20 and a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25. I bought the Vortex to replace the Burris after I sent the Burris back to see if they could do something with the focus. They said it met their specifications so it cost me shipping and to make matters worse they sent it to the wrong address and it cost me around a hundred dollars to get it back to me. The shipping wasn't 100% a Burris problem. I mailed it to them with my shipping address and they shipped it to that address by UPS and UPS redirected it to another address they had on file for me from years ago. So it went to someone I didn't have any way of contacting so I paid my real estate agent to go retrieve it and ship it to me. I doubt I would have been able to collect insurance from UPS. The Vortex is not too bad it probably meets their specs also both scopes make my eyes tired trying to focus. I don't have this problem with the Meopta scopes. I constantly have to focus both the eyepiece and the parallax on the forementioned two scopes. I am over it now all my better optics are in QD mounts so I can move them if I want to. I was reading about Schmidt Bender they acquired another optics company and their Klassik line is made by them I believe in Austria? My SB Klassik scope is clearly marked Made In Germany though, no worries they are still fine scopes. I also haver a Nightforce SHV mounted on a .308 Winchester it has been an excellent scope and as we say here, I didn't have to sell the ranch to buy it.

@@perdidocamaronero5400 I've never tried the Burris target scopes, bur my brother has one on one of his huntingrifles. It seem ok, but nothing more. I used to own a Strike Eagle in 1-8 but it was like looking into a Coca COla bottle. The problem with owning expensive, hidh quality optic is that everything else looks bad... I had a S&B on one of my huntingrifles. It was in 3-12x50(or 56?). It was a really good scope. I was unavare that S&B has bought another company, but that might very well be the case. My other brother worked at the Norwegian importer of Nightforce. The looked like high quality scopes, but they turned out to be too expensive to get a foothold in Norway. And most norwegian hunters only buy brands they heard of. Another thing is that since we can only own a certain number of guns we tend to spend more money on each and one of them. The new hot item in Norway is thermal scopes. They sell like hotcakes.
