Took probably 100s of tries wiggling the key in and out but it finally worked. Was just about to give up and buy a new door handle. Note to self follow the directions and don't just wing it.

Hi @101hamilton - To Enable/Disable Audio on the SmartCode 260, press the Programming Button once, Press the number 5 button and the Lock button on the keypad. Thanks ~ Kwikset Social

Just installed this. The code will work if the door is already locked and opened but as soon as i close the door and attempt to put the code in. It gives me the red light. Ive tried everything 😢

Hi @tommielynnerobinson7250 - The user code is only used to unlock the deadbolt, but not to lock it. When you close the door, press the Lock button at the top of the keypad to lock it, and then enter the code to unlock it. Thanks ~ Kwikset Social

I need to use 4 short screws on the strike side because i have a side window. Is this an issue? Long screws will break the side window.

Tip for folks whose Obsidian may be acting strangely -- check the interior handle/cover for any friction. Mine has developed a tight spot and putting some silicon grease has made it much smoother. I'm hoping this in combination with manually handing the lock will solve my error beeps and red/green alternating blinking.

I have to say, great company with great support! I called their 800 number, nice lady on the phone fixed my problem in 5 minutes. I will keep me buying Kwikset for all of my houses

Hi @brianglaser9215 -Please follow these steps: 1. Open the door and place the latch in the locked position. Unscrew the interior assembly and remove it from the door. Remove the key from the cylinder. 2. Check the installation, and ensure that the flat blade was installed in the vertical position, while the deadbolt latch is in the locked position. Also, check that the cable is secure. 3. Reattach the interior assembly with the key still removed and perform the Door Rehanding in Steps 15: kwiksetprodstorage.blob.core.windows.net/documents/kw_ig_5053733_9240.pdf 4. Test the locker electronically and with the key. Thanks ~ Kwikset Social

My husband and I finally got it to work. Following instructions to factory reset step 16, then 15, then 6 worked to get the code set. But the latch would not open when using only code .. it would only open using code if the key was inserted (weird) .. .. So we started all over and reinstalled…checked that the latch was centered and that the flat blade hole was horizontal... Reinstalled the mounting plate and made sure screws where not too tight... also, made sure the latch assembly was cleaned of any wood debris which ours had a few very small pieces inside the latch assembly... after reinstalling the batteries we did not have to reset the code that we set earlier and the latch is finally working perfectly without the key having to be in the lock. Took our two (tiny) brains and all the helpful comments on this post to be successful. Thank you everyone for your help!! 😅

What happens if you keep trying to turn it back to 3 o clock and never get it? Then the new key wont work, and its partially keyed to the new key which doesnt work

Hi @maureenmckenzielueder5942 - Yes, the SmartCode 260 can be set to auto-lock after 30 seconds, 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes after unlocking. I tried,it wouldn't budge either with the old and new key. Best solution is take the keyed face off the door,pull out the c clip holding the cylinder in, pull that out, then observe the tumbler teeth when re keying. Hard to explain,but seeing how it's actually doing when you put the keys in,you'll know you got it right the first time without locking yourself out.

How does the turn "knob" know the new correct tumbler, after rekeying it in the deadbolt? Can I use a new different physical key that is cut differently than the original? He doesn't explain the new key can be any physical key besides the original key . I'm assuming that's what needs to be done? Correct.

I installed this on my front where the dead bolt was right to left to lock it. I reinstalled it on my back door where the dead bolt is left to right to lock it. Now when I punch in my user code the door locks instead of unlocking. I’ve tried resetting to default but that does not help and I’m back to the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @robertconcha6943 - It sounds like your lock is working in reverse. To fix this, please open the door and place the latch in the locked position. Unscrew and remove the interior assembly of the lock. Reattach the interior assembly ensuring that the tailpiece is in the vertical position as shown on page 13. So I just tried to install this and it’s seems there is a manufacturer flaw with the deadbolt blade. Mine broke right at install so I’m not sure how well this will do for safety concerns. I’m returning mine and not exchanging for anything kwikset. I also reported this with pictures on Home Depot’s reviews page.

You can set it to lock automatically after a set period. There’s different options - after 30s, 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes.

Kwikset sells this POS with major flaws, it will reset on its own out of nowhere, then customer services sends you this video that requires you to manipulate the lock to fix it. What a joke, sell something that doesn't stop working arbitrarily.

This makes sense ... I am trying to connect my Kwikset Home Connect 620 to my Z-Wave network. Doing the connection BEFORE installing it on the door makes sense!!!!! Why doesn't the included instructions not tell me to do this? Now I need to disassemble the lock!

Having a problem evtering a user code. The latch comes out but does not cycle. Additionally, hitting the logo will lock and Unlock the door. Any idera what might be wrong?

Check the installation, and ensure that the flat blade was installed in the vertical position. while the deadbolt latch is in the locked position. 2. Loosen the mounting bolts a quarter turn. 3. Replace the batteries and perform the Door Rehanding process in step 15: kwiksetprodstorage.blob.core.windows.net/documents/kw_ig_5053732_9250.pdf 4.
