Do you recommend the Onnex hinge for someone wanting to begin using one? I have the OnnexC and OnnexR, with the R being my go to (thanks, target panic). I struggle to swap between them, however, as shooting with the R lacks movement in the execution. I feel like that is longer term going to limit me.
@ajbholsters203520 күн бұрын
@@Ben.Paints hello and thank you for checking out my video. I think the OnneX Hinge would work well as a beginner hinge on account of the draw control safety and the trainer pin. The draw control safety working similarly to the safety on the OnneXR (where you press it down to engage and let go to disengage) lends itself to learning good hinge form because you still have to draw it at a consistent angle to get the same amount of movement during shot execution. That said, I think the LynX is also a good contender since it will accept a trainer pin and is designed more as a hinge than OnneX Hinge (which is modeled after a thumb release). They both have the same handle shape and sizing scheme, but the pivot points of the heads are different and the OnneX Hinge has a different feel to its rotation than hinges that were designed to be hinges. The TRU Ball GOAT has the same problem. I think either one would probably work for you, but I use my LynXs more often than my OnneX Hinges.

This video is real, and exposes the snake oil being sold as Shot IQ. It's funny watching Joel Turner spin this shat with shooters who have been shooting at a high level for decades. They're polite, but they aint buying it. Bodie Turner has learned from the very beginning how to shoot with proper instruction. Joel is doing nothing more than renaming what we already know. The moment I saw the Onnex Clicker, my first reaction was "well there's something that does nothing for me". My next reaction was "why they hell would you add a click to at thumb release?" That does nothing but further complicates the process. With a thumb button without a click, it's very simple. Pull to anchor and settle in. When you're ready to shoot, begin pulling through. You don't need a click to stop you part way through your shot execution and remind you to start pulling.
@ajbholsters2035Ай бұрын
@@In-The-Wild-Outdoors thank you very much. I think if a person comes to the discipline of archery, or shooting in general, with zero experience, then the materials might be useful. However, most people have pulled a trigger on something at some point in their lives, and wrapping the basic concepts of marksmanship in language that is not in the typical person's vocabulary just annoys me. Sooner or later I'm going to buy the course so I can give it a very thorough assessment, but based on what I've seen so far I think other instructors do a better job of explaining their concepts As for the Clicker, I think there is a use for it in getting over the anticipation of wrapping your thumb around the barrel and starting to pull and going through the shot process in a purposeful, methodical fashion. Other than that I would rather have a company design a proper 2-Stage trigger in a thumb release along with setting it up so you can pull the trigger in the natural direction our thumbs have evolved to move (which is something I'm learning about and most thumb releases are not designed to do). Anyway, thank you for the comment and I hope you have a pleasant day.

If you had to choose one, which would you choose? The Stan Onnex or the ultraview button?
@ajbholsters20353 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you for watching. Here's a writeup i did for another person who asked a similar question: The release I tend to recommend most often is the Stan OnneX, particularly the Clicker version because you can set it to be used with or without the click by adjusting the trigger travel. I discuss that in my review on my channel. The reasons I choose the OnneX over the UV Button are as follows: -The OnneX comes in 5 sizes and the sizes are distinct from each other in all dimensions (size, thickness and even the finger attachments are adjusted by 10% between sizes). So you have the best chance of getting a "fitted feel" as compared to other releases. The UV Button comes in 2 sizes, medium and large. The medium would equate to an OnneX Large, and the Large equates to an Extra extra large. -The OnneX comes in a kit with two lengths of thumb peg post, two sizes of thumb peg, 3 and 4 finger attachments, trainer lock pin, and the tools necessary to make adjustments. The UV Button comes as a 3-Finger, and any additional configurations must be purchased separately. -The OnneX's finger attachments are sweep-adjustable. So you can further adjust the handle to fit your hand. The Button's finger attachments are not adjustable. -The position of the hook on the OnneX is fairly "standard" and can be paired up with a variety of other thumb releases and hinges without the need to adjust the archer's anchor point or d-loop length. So if you are looking to use a hinge and a thumb with the same bow, you can mix and match brands of releases to get a combination that works on your bow and gives you the same point of impact without having to match your method of shot execution (i.e. squeezing the trigger on the thumb release will hit in the same spot as executing the hinge with back tension). The UV Button's hook height and position are unique and pairing it with any release except the UV Hinge is far less likely (and it may not give you a similar point of impact with it, either). It may also require adjustments of d-loop length or even draw length in order to anchor comfortably with it. Both releases use a spring-gate to capture your d-loop and hang the release on it. The OnneX opens toward your face and the UV Button opens away from your face. One odd quirk of the Button some archers are encountering is the d-loop can slip between the hook and the spring gate if you draw the release at an odd angle. I've never had this issue because I draw thumb releases with the handle perpendicular to the string. The OnneX does not have that issue due to the direction the hook opens. Both the OnneX and the Button are good releases and if you set your bow up for either one exclusively, you should have good success whichever one you choose. That said, if you have to buy it sight-unseen, your odds of being able to set the release up in a configuration that works for you are the highest with the OnneX. As far as sizing goes, I have printable PDFs on my website (www.artandarchery.com) and www.stanoutdoors.com does as well that you can print you and get an idea of what size you may need. I'm not familiar with how gloves are sized in Australia, but I wear a size Small glove and a Medium OnneX fits my hand perfectly.

@@jthepickle7 thank you for watching. I try to put on my best "narrator" voice when I record my videos 👍. I imagine 30 grit sand paper grit glued onto the release would certainly improve your purchase on it without adding to the thickness of the handle. Excellent suggestion 👍.

Excellent setup and great microphone sound pickup. It's incredible how you can really hear these arrows flying in to hit the target. This is the best video I've seen. Very nicely done!

@@rickp5647 thank you, Rick. It's surprising how much noise they actually make. I just shot more footage last night with 5 different kinds of vanes (same arrow shaft for consistency's sake) and every one of them you can hear it coming from 50 yards away, not to mention the sound of my bow. It's no wonder deer jump the string 🤦.

Love all of your videos very interested in consistency videos and will you be doing a video on the uv knockoff

@@anthonypiertosanti9692 thank you for watching. Yes, I am writing the script as I wait for my UV Button Copy to arrive from China. In the mean time I'll be posting some more sound testing of arrow vanes.

I can not wait until you do the video of a bunch of different fletchings. I’m excited for it.
@MrChiumiento5 ай бұрын
It’s literally silent. I shot one next to my cousins ironwill fletchings. And they were way louder than my AV2. We were just standing obviously at our bows and listening though not down range this just solidifies it for me. Thank you for this video.

@@MrChiumiento my pleasure. I look forward to doing more testing. Not exactly scientific, but it's fun 👍.

That sounds really quiet👍

Thanks for watching. They're definitely quieter than my Bohning Ice Vanes, which buzz a little when they fly by. I'm fletching up more arrows with different vanes to see how they perform and will post more footage as i get it. It's not exactly scientific, but it's fun 😜.

Great review! As always. What screws did you use to replace the stock screws?
@ajbholsters20355 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. I used 6-32 x 5/16" socket head cap screws. They allow for a larger Allen key and aren't nearly as fragile as the stock screws.

We hear this a lot. while I agree consistency is of great importance, in situations other than indoor target archery there's more to unpack then simply doing the same thing every time. A perfect example is large variables in yardage if I do the same thing at say 60 yards as I do at 20 I'll end up with less then perfect results. The same goes for uneven ground, up and down hill shots, shooting in the wind, ect. My opinion is we should make what we can repeatable and remain open and flexible to changes based on circumstance.
@ajbholsters20355 ай бұрын
@@brooksmaxey9745 thank you for watching. I'm not certain where we are at a disagreement. Of course there are variances when encountering uneven ground, uphill and downhill targets, etc. I haven't gotten that far yet. In order to be able to hit a target more than once, regardless of how far, what angle it sits, or what you're standing on, you have to be able to supply the same input to the bow more than once. That's the point I was trying to make, and there are methods and drills that can be employed to make it easier to accomplish.
@brooksmaxey97455 ай бұрын
@ajbholsters2035 I don't think we are in disagreement. I'm just adding some points to the discussion. Look forward to what you have coming up.
@nwbhc5 ай бұрын
I disagree other than having your sight set up for different distances, consistency will remain the same except for the distance factor, which will widen your groups. It's all in form; confidently repeatable form. Now wind, I will agree can be a problematic affect.
@brooksmaxey97455 ай бұрын
@nwbhc you anchor in the same place at 20 as you do at 80? If so you're certainly missing low. My anchor at 80 drops down to my upper neck. Other parts of the shot must remain consistent my point is that you must have repeatable shots not just one. The base and fundamentals stay the same but a bow shot in the circumstances I outlined will be held differently with pressures pointing in different direction so it will inevitably feel different. As a base repeatability is key but I challenge any one to draw and aim at 20, then without letting down direct your aim to even 50 and come back and tell me it didn't change things. This can also be done with a slider. Set your sight to 80 and draw back and aim at a 20 yard target through your peep you'll be looking over the top of your housing.

Have been using mine for a few days hard. Like how it follows the lines of the release and it looks very cool. Heavy was what I wanted and it's got nice weight. the real deal for me is that the barrel goes up further and over the release and that makes it so I can just pull through a shot rather than hit the thumb purposely. Not sure that makes sense I'm bad at explaining but f'kc I like it. Needs to be a darker color.
@ajbholsters20355 ай бұрын
@@brianlew9559 thank you for giving it a try. I'm glad it is working well for you 👍. Your explanation does make sense. I adjusted mine recently to a position I can't get with the stock components, so it does offer some unique options in terms of adjustability. I'm not sure his plans on colors, but it wouldn't be the first time the subject has come up.
