This sounds like it's from Destreza, a Spanish system of sword fighting explained through Geometry and Trigonometry and Astrology.
@novacombatarts
@novacombatarts Ай бұрын
Destreza talks about angled fencing which I do talk about that destreza does talk about that. Issue with destreza is it doesn go in depth enough about going to the angles of strengths and weakneses baised on your opponent. Almost all martial arts talked about angled fighting which is nothing new. This just combines angled fighting baised on body position plus limiting thier options through corning while at the same time hitting them in tempo. All of these concepts are not new I'm sure. I have yet to find a source that combines them all into one complete goal though so I used my own term for it. I'm sure it prob exists some where though as I doubt I'm coming up with any thing new. Just teaching some good ways to counter the enemy. Issue also is the other systems usually have one stance which if you only use one stance it's alot harder to capilize on enemy's weaknesses.
@SCATally
@SCATally Ай бұрын
Very helpful video, thanks! You mention it being best to be able to use all three stances. Do you always start with what you are most comfortable, or do you choose your starting stance based on your oppoenent? Second question: what's the advantage your sail dagger with one straight quillion and one curved quillion?
@novacombatarts
@novacombatarts Ай бұрын
I choose baised on my enemy and goals or the style I'm running. As for the dagger it goes super deep why it is the way it is. I've customized every part of it for specific reasons. Down to the numbs on my quilion. One is like a triangle one Is a 3 sided clover with a 4th clover on the back. The back quillion up gives me better locks and stops cut mutations. The front quillion is the length of my bicep to cover my arm fully on cross parries. The dagger is the length that in stanxe it covers my whole leg downward and from my elbow up to my head when I cross parry. The sail is a little over the width of my hand for full coverage. The custom blade is thicker at the bottom to help feed into my locks. Also I have the front quullon straight so I can still do twin serpents guard.

This style is actually countered very well by its own style. Reason is for this style you want to fient thier dagger so it works best against people whose main defense is the dagger.this styles main defense is dagger so it's suseptible to its self. Expecially cuz you don't parry much with the sword at all in this style. So 2 people using this same style who ever has better measure will win

Just a term I use my self kinda from chess because I made a board and grid that shows all the positions on ways to control the board. I have 3 versions of it but this is one. Red is panic zone. @novacombatarts
@novacombatarts Ай бұрын
I do for the most part yes bit there are some differences. Like the 2nd Hand making you stronger on the palm down out side thrusts. I find positioning in long sword to be super important as well sense you don't have the offhand to use. I fight long sword and rapier personally pretty much the exact same. I just use the segments differently becuase the back hand can change angles of the blade mid movements.
@novacombatarts
@novacombatarts Ай бұрын
One of the key things to is when you attack the out side palm up in long sword, you want to make that mutation as they push agaiant your sword. This way thier momentum is going to the outside. This is important so that you don't double.
@SCATally
@SCATally Ай бұрын
Interesting. In the first part, you seem to be presupposing some knowledge of your opponent when you talk about things like "Don't let them do what they are best at." In the second part, you talk more about the way the opponent is standing, in this case, left foot forward. If you don't know your opponent, what else should you look for when trying to apply the lesson here of changing your guard?
@novacombatarts
@novacombatarts Ай бұрын
Some thing to look for and think about is wether they parry more with thier sword or dagger. And wether they try and take your weapon offensivly with thier sword or dagger. Most people do one more then the other. Once you see that then if your sword is low and they fight in mid guard, they will always bring thier sword or dagger low to capture. If they have sword in low are you are in mid or high then they will raise up to capture. Pretty much put your sword above or below thier weapon depending on which way you want them to move it. Most people who fight squared up main dagger. Meaning Most thier defense and takes are with the dagger so they can keep thier sword free. Hope that answers your question.

I just tried it with a spear though and seems good maybe that's how they did spear and shield back in the day ! Before when I tried spear in high guard it didn't feel good in hammer grip. Now I want to research more spear and shield and see if they menchin doin it in thumb grip. Idk why I didn't think to draw that link before. So what should I look at when I am encountering a new opponent? I should see how their feet are planted, because that can tell me where they can step. I should also look at how they are holding their rapier, because that can affect where they can strike. What else should I look for?
@novacombatarts
@novacombatarts Ай бұрын
So I look at weight distrubution as well this usually tells you which masters they study so you know what concepts they will follow. I'm almost done making a full tutorial video on everything stance includes and the pros and cons of each to easily know what they will do. There will also be one for grips and guards. I look at how they are standing wether its low or upright as well. Alot of times I throw what's called assements attacks which tell me alot about them as well, like wether they step with parries. What thier favorite parry is, how far they parried and wether they get strong to week on parries. So usually between studying out of range and the first attack you know what they are likely to do. I think I have a lesson talking about assements uploaded but I'll have to double check. Example most people who fight rear weight low guard don't retreat much but like to try and parry and attack in tempo. Most of them parry out to the upper left with thier dagger and thrust under with thier sword. Alot of bigger heavier fencers do this.

Yes that 100 percent is a factor. Attacking palm down on the inside is still risky either way. If they parry it will take you more time to defend or mutate still. @novacombatarts
@novacombatarts 10 ай бұрын
A false attack is a actual attack your throwing with the plan on retreating as soon as you land. You are wanting them to parry your attack and repost. A fient is usually a redirect from a misdirection, usually done in one or a half tempos. A false attack tends to be 3 tempos. Attack, retreat and parry, then counter attack. Vs a fient would be attack, redirect continue attack. Like a thrust disengage. Both are forms of deciet though.
