I’m wondering how to adopt a critical pedagogy while living in a post colonial oppressive regime? How can teachers be agents of changes while they themselves are subjugated under the same oppressive power! I think the more I get critical the more I feel frustrated, because being critical in an oppressive environment is life threatening and is not enough because you can’t have a praxis to take action and thereby, bring change.

Thank you. I guess we all deal with such things in one way or the other. Building solidarities and being aware of the limitations could be some good possible steps. In the end we can only do what is possible.

Tonnes of thanks respected Professor for speaking your heart out over a topic that intensely pinches one's soul every single time. We, or at least I am, fully aware that you are not apathetic to the plight of those poor humans on God's Earth, rather far from it. Please take care of yourself and don't let yourself get into the crosshair of the satanic lobby, lest you end up in a similar position as Professor Norman Finkelstein. You are a pride of our country in particular and humanity in general and despite your modest outlook, you're not a coward. Thank you for always sharing your wisdom and may you continue to enrich our lives for many decades to come. ~ Qasim Gondal

Ah! Thinking of relating 'internalized panopticon' to 'internalized cisnormativity' in some of my writing. 'Internalized transphobia' is a more commonly used phrase, but I think internalized cisnormativity points to the hegemonic system at play (norming non-trans identity). Relating it to the panopticon metaphor will be a fun way to add structure to how we surveille and police gender norms for ourselves and others. Again, thank you for your lectures.

Critical discourse and media analysis of the ways corporate media outlets manufacture consent and frame the settler colonisation of Palestine as “common sense” …across both liberal and conservative venues. You’re really excellent at it and it’s so useful for raising critical consciousness. Even with the ceasefire the brutal and illegal occupation and annexation of the West Bank continues… it’d be fantastic if you did a consistent series, even if 10-15 mins weekly, that historicises the Palestinian struggle. Dissecting a news segment or PR from US state officials would raise awareness and I think be useful to many. Keep up the stellar work whatever you decide! And thanks for the Building Better Worlds summaries too :-)

As for which topics, I would really get a lot out of works that focus on the economics of dependency, imperialism, neoliberalism, etc. Works that continue to examine how the postcolonial thought as a field has changed over the years would also be enlightening. 1:35 - it looks like this has been achieved already. the energy and appetite for R is there, but the education was cannily minimised to ensure the bourgeoisie appropriated it. I speak in past tense, but of course I have no idea if it's too far gone. The ruling class are the most critically aware among us. Despite that, the project is lifelong, and on we go therefore.

talking about the signifier can sometimes become the signified, I was thinking about apply narratology to the study of art historyl. Let's say a depiction of fisherman as a signifier within a landscape painting; it can be also regarded as a signified when I analyze how contemporaneous artistic conventions and the artist himeself contribute to such a depcition. Am I clear in the above sentences? Thank you so much Dr. Raja!

Thank you, Sir, for your wise advice. A couple of years ago, I was struggling because of repeated rejections of my book manuscript, and I was blaming myself for not being good enough. I decided to extend kindness to myself and practice self care (sleeping well, eating hralthy, doing yoga), to balamce my moods as I continued to work a little each day toward my goal. I finally got a publisher and my book will be out next year 🎉 So I'd like to say to your viewers to extend that kindness and softness to yourself as well, and stay consistent in working towards your goals. I'd like to add that sometimes I also substitute teach, and it does tend to be quite a challenge. I mostly attribute the difficulty to the fact that I do not have any kind of relationship with the students, who are often taught more by discipline than by value of learning itself - thus not being as motivated when no real disciplinary measures can be applied.
@masoodraja9 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words.
