Signifier and Signified= Referent (meaning) which is arbitrary (unnatural/traditional) but the meaning gets fixed once it is accepted generally; Book is book as it is different from chair

@@masoodraja and sir I am not getting the notion of J. Lacan signifier. He says there is no connection between signifier and signified, instead he says the meaning comes out of the text due to the connection of signifiers. Is this possible? Secondly, we would be thankful if you record a video on Lacan's theory in terms of literary texts (specially with reference to Jacobson's phoneme analysis and Metaphor/metonymy synchronicization )

Hello, sir. I really enjoyed your video-it's very insightful and has been a great help with my study of Indian-English novels. I noticed at 25:15 you mentioned a plot flaw regarding Saleem’s nose. You questioned why Saleem has a nose like his grandpa Adam’s when he’s not biologically related to him. Actually, this isn’t a plot flaw but rather an intentional element of the story. The novel explains that Saleem is the illegitimated son of an English wealthy man, which means he inherited the physical traits of an English lineage. This is reflected in his nose, which can be described as “big and high” (European has huger noses than Asian) -a trait that accidentally resembles Adam’s distinctive nose. Even the mother, who is unaware of the baby swap, mistakenly comments on the resemblance by saying, “Oh my, he got his grandpa’s nose” when she first saw him.

@@masoodraja I'm pursuing my PhD in postcolonialism, and your online lectures have been an invaluable resource for me, especially when I was just starting out. It’s quite challenging for students from Asia like me to dive deep into this field, as it’s not very popular here and courses are often prohibitively expensive, limiting access to academic knowledge. That’s why the work you’re doing on your KZbin channel and website is so incredibly valuable. I truly mean it. Wishing you good health always. 😘

Sir! Why we deal R. Barthes as post structuralist more than structuralist? Foucault is also connected to Barthes 'Death of Author' making Foucault a structuralist! What is the controversy sir, kindly ,briefly explain how we can term these both philosophers as Post Structuralist?
@masoodraja
@masoodraja 8 күн бұрын
Thank you. They both start as structuralists but why we consider them post structuralists would depend on understanding post structuralism itself. Obviously I cannot answer this in a comment. If I I have some time in the future I will try recording something on it.
@kashifkaifee
@kashifkaifee 8 күн бұрын
@@masoodraja please sir do make a video. Secondly, I want to ask if post structuralism is against religions? I see it so because then the interpretation of text becomes 'Subjective' somewhere (According to new historicism and RRT ) Simply , can religious books like Quran, Talmud , Bible etc. be deconstructed per post-structuralist perspective?
@kashifkaifee
@kashifkaifee 8 күн бұрын
@@masoodraja sir, thirdly, can we term Post-Structuralism as Psychological moment? As RRT stresses on the readers' response and readers' response is kind of thing related to the psyche of the readers (context of their mental awareness of things in their surroundings)
@masoodraja
@masoodraja 8 күн бұрын
Thank you. I will try to record it. Not sure about religion etc, as I don’t think in those terms. Would it be anti-religion, I am not sure but would it challenge dogma, yes.
@masoodraja
@masoodraja 8 күн бұрын
I don’t see it as a psychological movement, Foucault is clearly anti psychology. I would suggest taking a day or two to read up on post structuralism, as it is not a monolithic theory. Videos can help but they cannot replace deeper engagement with texts. Just start with a search online and then build on that.
