I am not sure what type of gasoline Mr Modify is using but I can assure you it doesn't work with any octane rating of ULP unleaded petrol and common garden type pool pH testing kits. The pool test strips shown specifically test for 9 elements those being Iron, Copper, Nitrate, Chlorine Total Hardness, Alkalinity, and Carbonate. Now considering Oil does not have a pH level, pH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity and Oil is or considered to be pH 0 making it impossible to show a reading, let alone Green being a high reading for Alkalinity. (really bad for an engine BTW) I can only assume Mr Modify may have either pissed on the strip in his excitement or accidentally dropped it in his cask of wine. Moral of the story is dip your finger in the fuel and touch a piece of cardboard and watch the evaporation process if all the fuel evaporates, its no oil ... if a oil stain remains guess what !! or use concrete as advised already.

I used my 15year-old pool strips in my synthetic-oil fuel mix and did not change color. Maybe because they have expired or because of the synthetic oil. So, a few drops of gasoline on white paper and if after evaporation there is a stain you know it has oil in it. Can't miss the oil stain. 😎

The bar must be running true in the chuck; otherwise, the center drill will never run true, defeating the object of accurately positioning the start for a subsequently drilled hole. You will have far more success making extensions for spotting drills that don't have delicate pilots and are made especially for starting drilled holes. The bar and hole must still be running concentrically though. Bearing fit adhesive is often strong enough for this application. Center drills are better suited for their original use in locating lathe centers.

I just noticed how you hooked up your cyclone for the sand blaster. That's totally wrong. The top is what goes to the vac, the end that you have with a 90 going to the gray pvc, is supposed to go to the hose, or in this case the cabinet. You want to spin the debris so it goes to the bottom of the cyclone and then into the bucket. The spinning slows the material down so it drops out of the vacuum.
@MrModify
@MrModify Ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to look at that. I have used it like this for years and thoght it was working ok because the bucket was collecting dust. I need to find more hose and make some adjustments in order to do what you suggest but I will give it a try. Maybe it is going to work much better. A friend gave the vac system to me so it never came with instructions.
@jsteifel
@jsteifel Ай бұрын
@@MrModify you don't need a hose, you can plumb it with hard pipe, which is what I have, but your input should be into the one at a side, and your vac should go to the one above. Go lookup dust deputy or any of the other mini cyclones..

Never heard of a slot drill. I am sharpening a two flute end mill. You will have to tell me what a slot drill is.
@JimBrown-zj2rz
@JimBrown-zj2rz 2 ай бұрын
End mills and slot drills are both milling cutters, but they have different cutting patterns and uses: End mills Primarily cut laterally and horizontally, and are used in a variety of milling applications, including drilling, slotting, and contouring. Slot drills Can plunge in like a drill and then slot across like an end mill, and are often used in general machinery. They can cut in all directions, and are used in a variety of industries, including engineering, carpentry, construction, metalworking, and woodworking. Here are some other differences between end mills and slot drills: Flute: Slot drills have one flute that is slightly longer than the other, while end mills have clearance in the center. Cutting edges: Slot drills have two radial cutting edges opposed to each other. Chip evacuation: Slot drills have two or three flutes, which helps with chip evacuation and keeps the bit cooler for longer. Surface cut: Slot drills produce a rougher surface cut than other end mills. Plunge cuts: Slot drills can perform plunge cuts, which other end mills cannot. Hope this helps. Jim.

On any lathe compound degree scale if the taper must be close, e.g. cutting a Morse taper shank, the scale gets you in the ballpark. Then the exact angle is set using the dial indicator, measuring the difference of the max travel of the compound slide against the straight turned work in the lathe.
