Lathe Compound scale check.

On any lathe compound degree scale if the taper must be close, e.g. cutting a Morse taper shank, the scale gets you in the ballpark. Then the exact angle is set using the dial indicator, measuring the difference of the max travel of the compound slide against the straight turned work in the lathe.

You are 100% correct and those morse tapers have to be very close to work right.
