I was at a fire college being held at a university with ROTC. We were grabbing lunch in the cafeteria and we got screamed at by some cadet for “stolen valor” because he saw our navy blue BDU pants and paid 0 attention to the shirt we wore. I was like: Shit glad I didn’t go that route in life I guess.

My older brother was in jrotc. He got so mad when I made fun of his imaginary rank.

Anyone in any branch who looks at anyone else serving (in any capacity) and has contempt for them is a POS loser and a poser themselves.

My brother got into ROTC because he loved JROTC and wanted them to pay for his tuition. They always gave out scholarships for a few people who are with them every couple of year's, so my brother figured he would get it because he was by far the most qualified cadet. The Chief decided to not give out scholarships at all that one year.

the "thank you for your service" part is spot on. As an MS1, I felt so awkward. A good response I've learned to give as a cadet is "thank you for your support"

"oh yeah be prepared to explain what ROTC is to everyone because nobody knows what it really is". yeah that's what I had to explain to my mom when I told her I joined Navy ROTC instead of just studying in engineering school in college like they wanted. and yes to vets ROTC is a joke that shouldn't exist but where the heck do you get 50% of the military's officers? the service academies aren't graduating enough.
