People getting all mad about some paint on wooden furniture are pissing me off. Yeah, sometimes it looks atrocious but sometimes it looks great, or at least better than the wood in its previous state. When you have a specific vision for your home, natural wood sometimes just doesn’t work.

The wood tops are stunning. ❤ I would want them all wood like that. I agree the originals were too orange, but I don’t care for gray or black paint.

That’s how I preferred to strip. I had a wire beater bit for a drill (couldn’t call it brush, the wires were thick & probably 5”). Worked super fast, & even used it on veneer, but you had to have the technique down.

I find videos without the noise of sanders, saws, drills, & hammers, so much more watchable. Can’t mute bc I forget to unmute, so I just pass them up. Like that you added your investments, also.

The gorgeous one that’s priced at $200, is actually Empire (circa 1825). The drop-front secretary is English circa 1970 (not 1800’s)…. we used to import them by the hundreds, 35 years ago… sold from $65 - $150.

That dark grey/green colour has been done to death in furniture renos. What is it with this obsession with grey? Hopefully, the next owner will bring back the natural timber colour instead. Nothing to see here.

This color was chosen by the owner. They are very happy with their choice.

I would have left it the original way it was...I prefer the antique look over modern. But your work is great.😊

I think the owners wanted to make them fit more into their current style.
@AngelBaby111176 сағат бұрын
Sacrilegious!
@olive.street.designs5 сағат бұрын
It is not sacrilegious. It’s just a dresser. These are mass produce pieces of furniture, not some relics or antiques. They were inherited by the owners and they wanted to make them fit into their current style. There’s nothing wrong with that.
@AngelBaby111174 сағат бұрын
@olive.street.designs You called it an heirloom making me think it was antique, not a cheap mass production. I still value the natural amber color and would cherish the sentimentality of the inheritance. That is my opinion and I understand you only fulfilled your clients wishes. I find the dark color depressing.

completely ruined. showed no respect to its original style.
@olive.street.designs5 сағат бұрын
What’s not respectful is telling somebody how they need to live with their furniture. The owners of these pieces wanted to change the look so that they would incorporate more into their current aesthetic.

You fooled me with this one! I was sure you were cutting boards to turn that shallow depression/handle section into a full-length chocolate wood handle.

Do you ever remove the veneer? I have several peices that are peeling or danaged. Thinking maybe just finish the wood underneath?
@olive.street.designs5 сағат бұрын
The wood underneath is usually not easy to work with. Sometimes it is just plywood. I try to save the veneer as much as I can by gluing and clamping, but if it is not possible, then you have to look at other options.

I find it so interesting how tastes differ drastically in different countries. Staining wood dark is considered very dated where I'm from, and lighter stains are much more popular.
@olive.street.designs11 сағат бұрын
Lighter stain is very popular right now. And some still live dark stain and black too! It’s fun that there are so many different styles.
