I did this on our RV. Wow! What a difference in the noise reduction, but better yet, the scfm through duct increased dramatically and the AC was much more efficient. It is a shame the RV manufacturers can’t get their act together and provide a much better install on AC units. Highly recommend doing this on your RV Dometic AC units!

@@SaltyEscape Can you help me figure out why you decided with the Vetus Magnus hatches? Did they say it was OK? I'm reading up on replacing mine and cannot figure out which to go with. Vetus Magnus has a huge disclaimer that says "VETUS strongly advises against using MAGNUS hatches as an A1 escape hatch in the underside of a multihull. Due to the flexible nature of these type of vessels, water tightness cannot be guaranteed unless the hatch is installed on a flat and inflexible structure." Considering the flex of the glass in that area, are you concerned about this? It's pretty interesting because pretty much every other escape hatch is only A2 rated as far as I can tell...
@SaltyEscape2 ай бұрын
We did extensive research to find a suitable replacement. I suspect the warning you are seeing came about after our purchase. I don’t recall seeing any such warning when we bought ours and there was nothing like this in the instructions. As I’m looking at the ones available today they have 4 latches where ours only have two. Maybe the product has changed. Mine were fine and I’m not worried about them.
@svsaguaro2 ай бұрын
@@SaltyEscape Thx for the reply! Good to hear. Very hard to source new ones. I have Lewmar hatches that "never really existed" according to Lewmar. I'm probably going with Rutgersens. If Vetus no longer wants you using them as escape hatches, then I definitely don't want them! :) Not many choices out there. Goiots were falling off boats (Although reportedly this issue is long since fixed on new hatches with redundant mechanical bolts thru the lens). Nobody else besides Vetus, Goiot, and Rutgersen make them anymore!
@SaltyEscape2 ай бұрын
@svsaguaro yeah, it was very difficult for us to find replacements also. It’s strange because on Defender marine these Vetus hatches are named “deck and escape hatch”.

I just took a looks at my living room ac (pretty much like yours in the video) and I noticed the manufacturer (Forest River Berkshire model) they did a pretty clean job with all the duct taping. I’m leaning towards leaving that intact and just adding the double reflective insulation and sealing off the louvered dump port. Thanks for the great video. Hoping it makes a big difference! 👍

@mattbayer39864 ай бұрын
I completed this mod and it wasn't too bad. The foam tape that was installed from the factory was worthless. My only snag was putting the 2 long bolts back in the side the air dump was blocked off. You can't see the holes and I couldn't get them in. As a workaround, I put the reflectix on the inside of the cover. Airflow is so much better. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for your concern. I’ve been woodworking my entire life! That was not a skill saw (if it were, I would never have attempted that cut, with the wood on my lap). That is a jig saw with a fine tooth blade. I have control of the blade speed and I know the location of the blade at all times. If I were to make contact with bare skin the worst I would endure is an abrasion. Following this video I started saying “trigger alert” when I was about to use a tool in a manor others would perceive questionable. I'm also a Bahamian from Andros and I blame consecutive lazy government leaders who refuse to take the agriculture serious. We are UNABLE to feed ourselves, what do you think will happen if for some reason we aren't able to import food. We don't grow/can anything . Blaming another country for our problems and not adapting is insane. That's the mindset of the generation that got us here. Generation x, Baby boomers NEED TO RETIRE.

@Nomorefreefood it's common sence . If your main food supply comes from another country and that countries economy is in bad shape then what will happen to those who depend on that food. Do you grow toilet paper here no ofcourse not. What about medicine that we desperately need everyday. Our gas prices have never been this high in decades and most likely won't get any better. Do you have a oil rig on Andros ofcourse not. I'd say 90% of what you see in food stores comes from the usa, well it does on my island
