I wonder how long this will last? What kind of maintenance does it need?

Yes they did create a unique home but if you study it it's very unefficient compared to todays building prctices.I do give them a Aa for their effort.The tarp over there structure the is a red flag.. I do give them an A for effort.

Yeah, not only is that way overpriced, but the time is also a bit long for what it is. That thing should have been done in 2 weeks

what is the point of uploading a video that is worthless??? teaching??? or showing off???? it will be nice if at one point in your life think in teaching others the skills needed to build an affordable home...is like eating a 300 dollar food and then 5 minutes later go to the bathroom and throw it all up...

You now have me researching Aircrete! Loved watching the build and was amazed at how it all cam together. I think the only thing I would have done differently is get all the painting out of the road before fitting out doors and windows. Looking forward to seeing your task in Hawaii. Off-grid is a big interest to me. Thanks for the entertainment.

Wow fabric on the whole outer layer might help cracks. Original design was around the base and walls for structural support with outward forces... But most domes like that crack and have to be repaired.

No drop! I've tried to get aircrete to work. Found the original mix to be wrong. So many factors affect it's structure and cure. Water is important. I had to double the soap, only cast on warm nighs. Tipe III cement helped. Either method increased construction cost over original domegaia's original construction cost estimate, plus they didn't build their original domes with aircrete.... They used cinder blocks. That leaves me with poor expectations over the martial, reliability, consistency, cost, and R value.

Live in Florida love bali style homes. I need the dome shape because of hurricane s. But nut sure aircreat will hold up to cat5. But want the 1 floor bed and bath with everything i can outside. Why am i in medicine and not architecture!? 😂 too many questions that need answers!

Loved the detail in this timelapse. It’s interesting that many people comment on how labour intensive this build is. I’ve been in the building industry for decades and know the sheer amount of different materials, skill sets and effort that go into standard timber frame, brick, block and similar construction methods. If we assume the foundation and slab were done and so the effort is from the slab up, and we take a timber frame home as an example, although the various major items are not listed in construction order and omitting services such as; electrical, plumbing, HVAC, also omitting doors and windows, interior fit out, as we may assume those are common to all homes: - The wall frames have to be constructed and stood up, then fixed and braced. - Roof has to be framed (by skilled carpenters). - Roof has to be sheeted/tiled/shingled, depending on the specified finish. - Roof insulation supplied and installed. - Eaves lined and flashings installed. Rain gutters and down pipes installed, if specified. - Exterior building wrap supplied and installed. - Exterior cladding supplied and installed (sheeted and stuccoed/hard siding/brick veneer etc) - Wall insulation supplied and installed. - Sheetrock supplied and installed. - Sheetrock flushed and sanded. I’ve no doubt missed a few steps in this quick brain dump, however the point is that conventional construction involves a lot of different materials and skill sets. Aircrete domes/arches require less materials and less diversity of skills that most traditional building types. It is this relative simplicity, and the fact that most of these skills can be learnt in workshops of a few days duration, (although mastery will take practice) are what makes this construction method worth considering as an alternative for those who are happy to consider a home that is ‘outside the box’ 🙂

Seems labor intensive. There's a place in Texas that does dome homes. They use an air bag, rebar, and shotcrete.

Sorry for this perhaps stupid question but what is the advantage of a dome structure? That you don't need to build a traditional roof?
@jasonsailor99875 күн бұрын
@jimbocotton9837 yes, common material and technique for the walls/roof. Domes and arches are very strong structurally, as evidenced by the number of buildings which stand today, that use these shapes in their design and were built , hundreds, and even thousands, of years of years ago.
