Excellent set; thanks for showing it. I didn't know that all of these had metal cases.

I have a couple of Japanese 600s, one with chime bars instead of gongs. I didn't know that they were made elsewhere too. The Fujitsu website dates the first 600 to 1963.

Hello! Any recommendations to cleaning the telephone spiral cord? I am looking to purchasing a 1960 Germany phone and the cord is blue but it has brown stains on it, im guessing due to being old. Is there any way to reverse it?
@vintagetelephones659012 күн бұрын
Soak in warm soapy water and wipe with a wash cloth. If the stains cannot be wiped off, then they are most likely permanant.

Very strange when you mentioned that it was a convertible telephone. I was wondering just how, but I never expected to see that. 3:17 Very strange. It would feel quite weird using the dial upside down and dialing it the wrong direction. I was originally thinking that the receiver holder somehow turned 180° to hold it.

Amazing how many variations there were based around the basic 500 design. This is one that, being the other side of the Pond, I was completely unaware of. It looks interesting, I'm sure you will be able to get it working!

Nice telephone, should clean up well. It's surprising how often capacitors, ringers etc are rattling around loose. I guess there are folk who undo all the screws in the base, and lose some, when trying to get inside the set!

Love these sets, they are very well engineered. In particular the elegant shape and complicated technical design of the handset.

I think (just a theory, no proof yet) that the loop was for the usage in public long-distance call offices (those with curtained booths): every booth would have a thick metal wire running through its walls and through this phone, to make any theft attempts much harder. And the wire might even run through all the booths at once and have some tension, so if anyone inside a booth cuts it, this would be immediately visible for the operator on duty.

Interesting one. I have never seen a loose rotary dial like that. The Chinese character reads, "check" I took a screen snip and put it into Google Translate.

Thats a great example of an 802, they are highly sought after in such a great condition. The comparison was great to see. I collect aussie phones and didnt realise that Telecom Australia had taken design inspo from a spanish telephone company. But great video really enjoyed it.

It's got a PTT T65 rotary dial on it. Mine -- stamped 'SEP 1966' on the bottom plate -- has got an older all-black Siemens-Halske dial. Could it be a PTT workshop refitted yours with the T65 rotary dial?

A nice addition to your collection - dates matching parts too (certainly near enough). The dial likely just needs some light lubrication.

Nice original set. Shame it has been a victim of the time-honoured tradition of keeping unwanted telephones partly submerged in water!Looks like the ratchet wheel is what has seized. If taking the wheel out and filling it with oil doesn't work then of course it can be replaced with one from any later BPO dial. The drawers often stick if they get damp and the paint peels.
@vintagetelephones65907 ай бұрын
The gear next to the governor was the culprit. It was covered in rust and the top part was completely seized so I had to use a pair of pliers covered in a thick cloth to turn it while consantly oiling it.
@tubaman667 ай бұрын
That should clean up pretty well. As long as the spring is ok the dial will likely just need a good clean and lube.

Gotta admit it’s weird having an Aussie phone with an American ringtone. These phones were made by AWA (Amalgamated Wireless Australasia) however by 1978 the PMG (postmaster general department) would’ve been decommissioned and the phones would’ve been made for Telecom Australia, now Telstra. Also those old phones were built like tanks and are hard to break!
@conradharcourt82637 ай бұрын
Lovely example of what the BPO called a 700 type. The APO used them, but in the UK they were only issued on a field trial, testing the new handset with receiver insert 4T, two years later the 706 became the standard GPO phone for most new installations.
