Awesome video! Good tips on doing curves. I've learned something again. I've been sewing on and off for probably 30 years and I've never had a teacher. I'm learning lots of things from you now. I wanted to comment on when you started sewing. No one has ever taught me that you don't start at the very edge of the fabric. I used to come forward and then try to reverse it immediately and then try to come forward. And as you know, nine times out of 10 I'm going to botch up my material doing that. So now I know start on the inside of a little bit, go backwards and then go forwards. Wow! My mind is blown. I know these little things seem like trivial things to you, but I'm learning so much today.

Ooh that's a fancy sewing machine. I have a Kenmore 12 stitch from the 1970s. It's a heavy duty sewing machine and I think it has a stitch that's similar to yours. It just doesn't have the second seam. It's a regular overlock stitch I think. I'm excited to try what I've learned.

Another fantastic video. I've been sewing for years but it's just by the seat of my pants. Lol I'm getting ready to sew some sleeves that I had to cut off some t-shirts for a lady I work for and every time I sew knit I worry so much. I watched another video and got the right needle put in my sewing machine but I had no idea what that foot was in my drawer. I have acquired lots of sewing feet and things from either a friend or mother-in-law or my mother. LOL thank you thank you thank you! I told my daughter she needed to start watching you as well. She is a new sewer. ❤

So you only need to stabilize one side of the seam? The back piece?
@loveandstitchesstudio13 сағат бұрын
Yes, stablilising one side is enough. Usually the back because you don't want to add bulk to the front seam. Alison xx

Which machine do you perfer to use and why?
@loveandstitchesstudio13 сағат бұрын
When I used to sew just for me, I always used the Singer 319k, but now that I'm teaching others it's more relatable to most beginners who buy modern machines if I sew with the Janome 725s. Also as my eyesight gets worse the needle threader is so helpful! Buttonholes are much easier on the modern machine, once you get the hang of it too! Alison xx

What's happens when the needle is cutting the fabric when I'm sewing?
@loveandstitchesstudio24 күн бұрын
Do you mean that you're getting holes forming in your fabric? I probably means that you're using the wrong time or size of needle for you fabric. Is it ballpoint or stretch? What size are you using? The smaller the number, the finer the needle. A needle that's too large for a fine fabric could create holes. Alison xx

Is your buttonhole lever down correctly? Is it sitting between the 2 parts of the buttonhole foot that set the length? Is the fabric even? Is there anything blocking it (something like your fingers or a patch pocket)? Is the buttonhole foot level? Alison xx

Mine does something similar - the first side is perfect, bit the return is just straight stitch. I've never had this happen before and the machine has just been serviced. I've checked all the settings, dials and levers!
@loveandstitchesstudio4 ай бұрын
@@alexkiernan133 did it also do this before it was serviced or just after the service? I would suggest this is a fault with the machine, rather than operator error. Alison xx

This method did work but i will be staying with the 15sec steam press method as found elsewhere on KZbin. Why? Because it took over 20mins to fuse my jacket facings, might be great for small areas but larger ones that take 10 to 12 iron moves to cover its a no-no and my back agrees 😮
@loveandstitchesstudio5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I get that! It does take time and requires patience, but in my experiernce this method gives the best most permanent fuse with most types for fabric & interfacing. I've seen a lot of interfacing coming unstuck because the glue hasn't been given time to melt and fuse to the fabric. Alison xx

Thanks for the tip about the pins! This is my first time doing buttonholes on m second-hand machine, although I've used it a lot. I notice on your first buttonhole, and on mine, the second side has narrower stitches! How can I avoid that?
@loveandstitchesstudio6 ай бұрын
Thanks for you comment. It is the stitch length that is different not the stitch width. To correct difference of the stitch length of the left and right side of the buttonhole, you can play about with the stitch length until the sitches on both sides are balanced. On some machines there is a hidden dial to adjust the foward/backward stitch balance but the Janome 725s doesn't have this function. Hope this helps. Alison xx

This is the first time I’ve seen your KZbin channel. I have already liked and subscribed! I have a beautiful 306K in two-tone fawn and brown. It’s the older sister of the 319K. I have been able to find and purchase the full set of Fashion Discs. There are over thirty of them! My 306 travelled over 760 kilometres (about 472 miles) by regular post to reach me and required some repairs when it arrived eg retiring, soldering of motor brackets, upgrade to lighting etc). I bought a large bottle of Singer sewing machine oil and after cleaning out decades of dust and grime, oiled it until everything moved so smoothly that it was like new. Now it sews so quietly and smoothly and it has unbelievable strength compared to the mid-80’s Husqvarnas I was using. If you are able to buy a set of fashion discs (the flat ones NOT the top hats), combining them with your 319’s piano keys will give you hundreds of stitches with which to experiment. Look on eBay. That’s where I found my big set of discs.

Did you use a straight stitch to sew up the shoulders having seen the ribbon on with zigzag?
@loveandstitchesstudio Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use a straight stitch, because the ribbon will stop the shoulder seam from stretching so the stitches on the shoulder seam won’t stretch and break as they might if you hadn’t stabilised the seam. Alison xx

Sometimes when I use a stretch needle or a ball point/Jersey needle I still have skip stitches. I usually end having to use stabilizer.

Is this on fabrics with a really high lycra content? I've actually had more success with a universal needle when sewing high lycra content fabrics. Which is the opposite of what I would have expected. Do you use tear away stabilizer? Alison xx
