Hi ... This was one of the more informative videos on this specific topic that I have seen. I have precisely the same frig and the same problem. I have just replaced the Defrost Sensor but I now, do not think it is the real problem because, on testing, the resistance does change with temperature, but I can not be exactly sure about the 'percentage' change given the Samsung Defrost Temperature Resistance Chart. I understand that it fails, if it off by 10%. I have several questions, if you do not mind... 1: Why do you suppose the refrigerator worked as specified for the first N Years (in my case 7-8 years)? My point is that, some element has/is failing, but the Internet/YT does not address this aspect of the fix... usually focusing on the Defrost Sensor or the Defrost Heater Element. 2: Do you think the real problem is the Samsung Defrost Heater Element fails slowly over time... which is why you are recommending an additional heater element? 3: I am surprised that you have, over time, found it necessary to add a second additional Defrost Heater Assist Element. To me, this suggests that the MAIN Samsung Defrost Heater Element degrades over time. Which leads me to the question... why not just replace the main element? Maybe this is just a cost issue, as I believe that main element is approximately, $150.00 CAD. Incidently, I am pleased, that you explained the WireTap Connector implementation and the gauge. I would not have understood that. Thanks

Things wear. Any deficiency or subpar design element will show up. Feel lucky that you got as many years out of your fridge as you did. This fridge was under-designed with respect to the defrost system and the additional heating element is a good addition.

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I only needed to use four pins out of a 12-cavity pre-pinned pigtail; pulled the remaining eight pins thanks to this and filled with cavity plugs. My pins were not loose upon removing that white locking piece but were easily pushed out from behind the connector. Love it!

Which tube did you move the sensor to? The U shaped one, or the right angle one? I have this exact problem for the first time, and I see it’s endemic to Samsung French door refrigerators. I need to do this and hope it works, and I’m really disgusted with Samsung for not fixing this or issuing a technical bulletin for a free fix for what is clearly a design flaw. Never getting another Samsung anything. Ever. As a result of their lackadaisical attitude toward an obvious problem.

Disappointing your previous fix wasn't permanent. Since it lasted 3+ years it makes me wonder if maybe the thermistor is bad even though it might still test to spec. I think this additional heater is the best fix. My tech moved my thermistor to the "U" outlet tube and that lasted 9 months (1/2022 - 10/2022). He since moved it (10/2022) to the "right angle" outlet tube like you had yours AND he replaced the thermistor. That was 4 months ago. I'm not optimistic this fix will be permanent. One other thing I've done is unplug the fridge from power for 2-3 minutes after the fix. I read an article in the link below stating after a forced defrost (Fd), the refrigerator MUST be reset. I have noticed on occasion that the fans and compressor will remain off for 50-60 minutes and that several times a day they shut off for 10-15 minutes. So, I don't know if resetting did this by "rebooting" the PCB board (like a computer) or I just never noticed it before. Regardless, if I get the icing again, I will replace the Samsung with either a GE, Whirlpool or Frigidaire. www.unitedservicers.com/2017/04/tech-tip-27-why-force-a-defrost-samsung-refrigeration/#comments

We get winds like that also... that last for 3 weeks sometimes. I've always had a tarp on my 5th wheel and it holds up pretty well because I strap it down in various widths of the trailer using a 2x4 as an anchor that I have drilled holes in each end to tie off of. At the front I have wrapped the tarp two times around a 2x4 and then screwed it to board , that board is tied down at both ends also. But ! I occasionally get scrub marks from all the lines I have tied off on the rubber roof and I'm worried about permanent damage. I'm going to try the tyvek wrap this year and customize it like you did yours. So you think your glued seems were what made it compromised to the winds? was it too billowy? I also had a thought that maybe you weakened the fibers by crinkling the wrap. Are you going to try tyvek again with new modifications? Thanks for the idea....

The seams actually were fine. A friend was playing with the slide-out and started the tear that led to the tarp getting ripped in half with a 100km/hr windstorm. Our next plan was to buy an RV shed but we ended up selling the trailer. Good luck with your project.

I like the notched board for the tracks and see-through panels. The yoga matte doesn't seem like it will last long or be very energy efficient. Looks like you should add some thick weather stripping on the edge of panel that touches the door. Door looks way wider and taller than it needs to be for the dog. By making the side rails and door width all narrower you it might end up just enough to lock the sliding door with a board in the inside house side of rail to keep intruders out. It will also be more energy efficient. Would have been nice to see it being put in and taken out. I got the impression that it lifts in an out fairly easily?
@SqueetoNa
@SqueetoNa 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. Weather stripping would be a good addition. Surprisingly the yoga mat is still in good shape. The dog did grow into the size of the door; it is about perfect now. The door lifts in and out very easily so the system is not lockable without some modification. I think a youth could probably squeeze in the door sideways anyway.

UK you can get the heater wire (see other vids as need to be done) and also the extended drain clip from Amazon shipped from USA. The only thing you missed was the heatshrink, you need a 10mm dia and about 25cm length to fold the bare heater wire and cover it, otherwise you'll get a burning polystyrene smell. Also getting the back off ain't easy, takes patience and about 2hrs if badly iced like ours, but cheaper than a new fridge/freezer. Samsung should have had a recall on these as not fit for purpose.

The reason the original drain tab is made out of aluminum is because the heater is aluminum. If you wrap copper wire around the aluminum heater, disimilar metals will corrode the less noble metal in the presence of moisture. which would be the heater corroding. After cleaning the duckbill drain tube behind the refrig., drain will be frozen closed. clear this first. If it happens again, replace the drain tab with a six dollar aluminum one that is sold on amazon, and also replace eight dollar defrost sensor.Easy job. And while you have the evap panel removed but wiring still plugged in, put frig in defrost mode via front panel codes. Use a thermometer to sense that heater works, should get up to around 200 degrees.

The reason ice forms is because the coil in the lower back of the refrigerator is clogged with dust and all kind of dirt, it is easier to clean the coil and the fan that cools the compressor than having to do all of that labor every so often.
