I always got a kick out of people who have service dogs and treat them like slaves... It's almost as if they don't understand dogs at all and have it as like an accessory to draw attention to whatever their ailment is. See the thing with dogs that will pick up on the smells of diabetes for instance.... Is they will pick up on it no matter what they are doing. Getting screamed at for distracting someone's job they scream is working is more about attention for that person than whatever is wrong with them.

I think you are right when it comes to cute items. They are super fun, but can both get attention to the dog, but also maybe cause others to suspect a fake.

I ordered some ADA cards, as well. I had to order a couple of different ones to find one that I like regarding the font size, etc. I plan to keep them with me to hand out, "in case you want to enlarge it and post it for employees or in meetings."

My girl gets off time in the breaks at school and gets to greet the other students! She loves this and she deserves this, especially on long days. Our building is not the main one so she gets to run free often and it is def a highlight and makes her enjoy work more! :)

Do you have any advice for working a dog through sound sensitivity
@GrandSlamK9
@GrandSlamK9 Жыл бұрын
Gradual exposure to noises in controlled environments. For example, playing loud sounds in a room and being able to control the volume level, and pairing those sounds with something positive (dinner time or play time)

I’m getting a service dog soon and I work as a receptionist and I was wondering I have a hour break so do I take my dog? Out to use the restroom during that time or how do you do it?
@GrandSlamK9
@GrandSlamK9 2 жыл бұрын
You can do that, depending on the age and size of the dog. Balto can go 8 hrs without going to the restroom but I take him out every 2 hours for a 10 minute break to decompress. Write up a reasonable accommodation and give it to your employer about how you’ll take your breaks with your SD!
